I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 869 - 869 868. Madam you dont want them to know right
Chapter 869: 868. Madam, you don’t want them to know, right? Chapter 869: 868. Madam, you don’t want them to know, right? Seeing the other party fall silent, Lu Ban knew his judgment was correct.
“Poison? Mr. Lu Ban, as the head of the Yellow Sand Brotherhood, I must remind you that in Utopia, spreading rumors is also against the law.”
Cleopatra did not directly answer Lu Ban’s question, but instead accused him.
“So, to put it another way, my speaking these words without being sanctioned by Utopia means I am telling the truth?”
Lu Ban countered sharply.
“I don’t have time to play word games with you.”
Cleopatra said, when suddenly a series of delicate whispers echoed by her ear.
“If you wish, you can have someone take him outside the city, and I will dispose of him cleanly in an instant, leaving no residue behind.”
That was the voice of Mad Poison, communicating his thoughts directly through the part of him that had infiltrated Cleopatra’s brain.
In Utopia, everything must follow the rules, but outside the city, it was not necessarily so.
At least in the distant Wasteland, away from Utopia, killing would not be punished, and even if one returned after killing, Utopia could not trace it.
So, sometimes, when enemies were made in the city, efforts were made to lure them out, and then settle scores.
This led many people to truly fear leaving Utopia, worrying they might be killed once they stepped out.
“I assume, being from the academy, you wouldn’t waste my time just to discuss things that are unfounded?”
Cleopatra did not respond to Mad Poison, for making someone disappear from Utopia did not require the intervention of an outsider.
“Moreover, if it really is as you say, then under the scrutiny of Utopia, who could poison someone undetected?”
“The one who poisoned is your subordinate, the poison was concocted from two non-toxic substances mixed together. You would certainly have arguments to counter this claim, but unfortunately, this is not such a simple trick.”
Lu Ban stated gravely.
If he publicly executed Cleopatra with these reasons, he might indeed be expelled from Utopia for spreading rumors, or even directly struck down by divine punishment.
Such a ploy, obvious to any normal person, would certainly not be Cleopatra’s tactic.
Her ability to hold the position of the Saint who guards the merchants in the city surely relied on extraordinary strategies.
“I heard that the Yellow Sand Brotherhood has started distributing food to the common people in the city these past few months, I tasted it yesterday, it sort of tasted like shit.”
Lu Ban responded unflinchingly.
“You, if you are here to mock me, I suggest you leave immediately, otherwise disrespect towards the Saint could cause you unbearable pain.”
Cleopatra thought this man was good-looking but utterly useless. His speech was filled with mockery and crudeness, even bandits encountered in the Wasteland were more amiable, at least they knew what to say and what not to.
“But the shit is poisoned.”
Lu Ban said without any hesitation.
“?!”
Cleopatra couldn’t believe what the young man in front of her was saying, did he really know what he was talking about?
“Don’t rush, sir, I’m asking you not to hurry.”
Lu Ban did not explain directly but gestured with his hand for Cleopatra to stop summoning others.
“Do you have any evidence?”
Cleopatra then thought that perhaps Lu Ban really did know something. Since he had chosen to speak with her one-on-one instead of making it public, it either meant that Lu Ban had no actual evidence, everything depending on guesses to deceive her, or that Lu Ban had ulterior motives and did not want to openly conflict with the Yellow Sand Brotherhood.
“Your next line is, ‘If the distributed food really contained poison, then I would have already been sanctioned by Utopia.'”
“If the distributed food really contained poison, then I would have already been sanctioned by Utopia… Eh?”
Cleopatra paused.
How did this man know what I was going to say?
Could he have foreseen everything?
Just then, Cleopatra’s ear picked up more of Mad Poison’s faint, devilish whispers.
“Hurry, let me kill him, I can feel that this man is no ordinary person, you might not be able to handle him, let him leave Utopia, and I can give you everything you desire.”
Cleopatra rubbed the corner of her eyes, dismissing these whispers from her mind, she looked at Lu Ban, waiting for his explanation.
“In my world… in my city-state, there’s a saying that discussing toxicity without dosage is hoodlum behavior.”
Lu Ban then said.
“Hoodlum behavior?”
Cleopatra narrowed her eyes slightly, not understanding what “hoodlum behavior” meant; the formation of the phrase was somewhat perplexing.
But more than that, Lu Ban’s words made her vigilant.
“Know this, there’s nothing in this world completely free of toxicity, even plain water in large enough amounts could be lethal.”
Lu Ban said slowly and deliberately.
“And the poison you added to the distributed food alone is not in doses high enough to cause harm, but these toxins cannot be digested or expelled by the human body, so they would gradually accumulate within, and over time, as these toxins build up to a certain level, they will harm the body.”
“This way, the act of poisoning would not be punished under Utopian law but could slowly achieve its intended effect over time.”
Utopia holds absolute justice, but criminal acts are not always absolute, even too much salt can cause death, but the law would not punish a chef who used too much salt, therein lies the loophole.
It’s like a building from which one brick is removed each day; it is not a crime, however, over time, the foundation becomes unstable, and eventually, the building will collapse, causing catastrophe.
“An interesting idea.”
Cleopatra suppressed her emotions, knowing that in the commerce of trade, sometimes even a slight change in a glance could determine the outcome, she could not reveal any issues.
“But why would anyone poison the food distributed, how does killing these common people benefit any faction?”
The merchant, inheriting the name of the Queen of Beauty, specifically chose a phrasing that didn’t reflect her own involvement.
“It’s simple, there’s no need to kill all these people, just make them show symptoms, then when Utopia falls into panic, the Yellow Sand Brotherhood extends a helping hand to these sufferers using medicine obtained by traveling merchants to cure everyone. From there, the Yellow Sand Brotherhood would become a lifesaver for the people, gaining significant prestige.”
Lu Ban said, pausing briefly before continuing.
“Sir, you wouldn’t want other people to know about these things, would you?”
