I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 862 - 862 861. Plato
Chapter 862: 861. Plato Chapter 862: 861. Plato Lu Ban looked over.
There was a middle-aged man.
He stood out remarkably among a group of teenagers in their late teens and early twenties.
His face was sharply chiseled, like ancient Greek sculpture, filled with virile beauty, and his robe was embellished with golden threads, making him even more distinctive. His hair had streaks of gray, and his eyes contained a profound will, like a Black Hole, all too easy for those who met his gaze to sink into and be unable to extricate themselves.
“Saint…”
Lu Ban murmured softly.
“Saints are not troubled by crystal nucleus disease, and their lifespans even surpass those of normal people. It’s very common for them to live hundreds of years. This one has lived for more than a hundred years; it’s Saint Plato, who is about to retire.”
Du Danping explained from the side.
“Is he about to die?”
Lu Ban asked subconsciously.
“You could say that. Although a person’s body can achieve immortality with the aid of Extraordinary Powers, the spirit cannot achieve this. As a Chosen by Gods, you must know this well.”
Du Danping gave Lu Ban a meaningful glance.
“Even if one enhances their physical body by various means, the spirit and Sanity cannot be strengthened. It’s like a consumable, slowly wearing out, corroding, and eventually mutating into a monster. Saints are no different.”
“They’ve been corroded by power throughout their long lives, eventually leading to the collapse of their will. Living for over a hundred years is considered longevity. Continuing on, even a Saint would fall into madness and ultimately be rejected by Utopia and perish.”
“Therefore, to die as a human, he has chosen to retire and pass on the title of Saint to his successor.”
He turned his gaze toward the Saint and then, alongside Lu Ban and Feng Yu, approached him.
Plato was conversing with another man who appeared to be of a similar age and seemingly also a Saint. Seeing Du Danping, he amicably interrupted his current conversation and looked over.
“Mr. Du, your music is truly a comforting power in this dim world; I am deeply moved.”
Plato praised.
“You flatter me. I merely happened upon those melodies hidden in the wind and jotted them down.”
Du Danping responded, then gestured toward Lu Ban and Feng Yu.
“These are my friends, Lu Ban and Feng Yu.”
Plato followed Du Danping’s hand to look at them, his gaze sweeping past Feng Yu and lingering on Lu Ban for a long time before he spoke.
“So young and talented.”
“Mr. Plato, about what I mentioned earlier…”
Du Danping quickly returned to the main topic.
“I am aware of the matter. For today’s Utopia, exploring relics and uncovering ancient civilizations can indeed bring rich rewards. Personally, I support doing so, but Utopia is not just mine; we must respect the will of the people.”
Plato said.
“Even if that leads to the city’s destruction?”
Lu Ban suddenly spoke, causing Plato and the Saint beside him to look at him.
“Even so, it is the choice of the people.”
Plato sighed deeply and said mournfully.
“The Republic doesn’t exist just to persist, but to uphold ideals. If one day it comes to relying solely on individual might and unilateral action to save this city, surely by then, the Republic will be shattered and lose its current name.”
“Are you saying, even if the people choose a path of retreat and isolation, ultimately leading this city to be submerged in sands, it would still be Utopia’s choice?”
Feng Yu asked.
“You may understand it this way because this is Utopia, not a city that never falls or an eternal city, but a city of ideals,”
Plato explained.
“I, being a Saint and also a Saint of Utopia, inherit the will of this place, and thus, I follow democracy and justice. If you can persuade most of the populace, as well as the Transcendents of the Senate, then the path Utopia takes forward will also be the direction of the academy.”
“I see.”
Feng Yu didn’t continue the topic. She exchanged glances with Lu Ban, bid farewell to Plato, and moved to a corner of the banquet hall, leaving Du Danping to continue the conversation with them.
“It seems that survival is not the primary concern of this city.”
Feng Yu commented.
“Rather, its existence is just to manifest its rules,”
Lu Ban said.
Clearly, from Plato’s words, he adhered strictly to Utopia’s rules, even placing these rules above the future of Utopia.
There were two possibilities, either if everyone in Utopia violated its rules, the city would cease to exist in the physical sense, suffering backlash.
Or, Plato had other thoughts in mind, using Utopia’s rules as a pretext to refuse Du Danping.
While they were discussing, suddenly, Lu Ban saw the man who was just with Plato approaching them.
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
The man asked politely.
Lu Ban nodded, and the man sat across from him and Feng Yu, holding a glass of Honey Bug Wine.
“Let me introduce myself. As you can see, I’m a Saint inheriting the name of Hippocrates and a member of the Senate. Your performance just now was quite interesting,”
the middle-aged man said with a smile.
His appearance was somewhat more ordinary, with slightly curly hair, and his robe decorated only with silver threads, distinguishing him from Plato.
“Hippocrates…”
Lu Ban thought the name sounded familiar, but couldn’t place where he had heard it.
“Just a trivial doctor, indeed. Unlike my colleagues, I can only support from the back, and I can’t even cure Crystal Core Disease,”
Hippocrates sighed.
Indeed, in this era, the role of doctors was quite minimal. Even those with extraordinary powers could only watch helplessly as people from their own time passed away.
On the wasteland above, many diseases had long been extinct, and under normal circumstances, there was little need for doctors.
“I don’t belong to any faction, but when I was young, about thirty years ago, I studied at the academy for a while. After learning about the situation in the Promised Land, I too hoped Utopia would dispatch manpower to explore it. Unfortunately, Lord Plato cannot go against Utopia’s will; we are merely fledglings under the protection of this city,”
Hippocrates said wistfully.
“It seems that Utopia’s will is above all of you,”
Feng Yu noted, picking up on a theme both he and Plato had mentioned.
“It’s as though… this thing actually exists.”
“Indeed, that’s exactly why I sought you out,”
Hippocrates’s voice grew deeper.
“I want you to help us break through Utopia’s will and leave this city.”
