I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 860 - 860 859. Heavenly Father
Chapter 860: 859. [Heavenly Father] Chapter 860: 859. [Heavenly Father] “Your mission is to help the academy achieve victory, and my mission is to choose a faction to support, while also opposing the Chosen by Gods.”
Lu Ban said.
What he originally thought was that he would find those enemy Chosen by Gods and then simply choose a different faction from them. Now, since Du Danping’s mission was to support the academy, he would naturally follow suit.
As for the Chosen by Gods from other factions, they had a different use for Lu Ban.
“These opposing Chosen by Gods mostly harbor malicious intentions towards these foreign domains. Their actions will inevitably cause some harm here. We just need to find these damages and expose them. Then, most people should see clearly what they should choose.”
Lu Ban’s thought process was straightforward.
If they were all Chosen by Gods like the Four-eyed Kid Little Fish Man, they would mostly come up with bad ideas. As long as these were exposed and dealt with, it would be highly likely that the remaining Senate members would choose the academy.
After all, people are not blind; they couldn’t possibly see an option that is all harm and no benefit to themselves and still want to bash their heads against a wall to give it a try.
“This is indeed a method.”
Du Danping agreed.
“But the opposing Chosen by Gods who can participate in this mission must be extraordinary, so you need to be careful.”
He was not worried about himself because Du Danping’s mission did not involve opposition, so theoretically, those enemy Chosen by Gods did not know of his existence. Lu Ban, however, would clearly be confronting them head-on.
“There’s no need to worry about that.”
Lu Ban thought for a moment but did not tell Du Danping about his experience causing trouble in those foreign domains and witnessing the fall of those worlds.
“On one hand, enhance the academy’s reputation and influence among the Senate members, showing them the benefits of exploring ruins. On the other hand, search for other forces that might have Chosen by Gods among them and defeat them.”
Du Danping quickly summarized their mission objectives.
“We also have to beware of heretical cultists in the city.”
He added as a reminder.
“Heretical cultists?”
Lu Ban was curious about what kind of mysterious organizations could exist in the Wasteland.
“Originally, there were signs of other Ancient Overlords infiltrating the Wasteland. They mostly influenced some common people with higher inspiration through dream-talk, tempting them to spread their names. However, due to the presence of the Bug Leg swarm, these beliefs could not gather well and form a system.”
Du Danping explained.
“But now, with the Bug Leg swarm gone, many once-hidden Divine Being beliefs have begun to sprout, and some are even secretly controlling city-states.”
He put down the book in his hands, picking up a piece of grass paper with written notes.
“Among these, the most noteworthy is [Heavenly Father]. He is one of the earliest Divine Beings to spread His presence in the Wasteland. According to my understanding, at least one city-state has already become His playground.”
Lu Ban thought of the Divine Idol he had encountered upon hearing this name.
The description of that Divine Idol originated from the Wasteland. Lu Ban once obtained a Divine Idol of the [Heavenly Father] on his way to escort Amber to the Great Shrine of Harmony Island. The two Divine Idols could resonate and connect with one another. He had previously thought this was akin to a communication device.
Now it seems there is indeed a Divine Being nicknamed [Heavenly Father]?
“[Heavenly Father] Himself spreads disease, plague, and corruption, and His followers will mutate more or less, turning into living dead, ghouls, zombies, and the like. Additionally, these followers continue to spread disease, posing a great threat to civilization—the existence of [Heavenly Father] is a considerable menace.”
Du Danping elaborated.
“Most of [Heavenly Father]’s followers possess a Divine Idol of His, which through some unique rituals can produce diseases. Their favorite thing is to spread these diseases and corruption in the densely populated cities, turning everyone in the city into their kind. After embracing the faith of [Heavenly Father], the pain of the illness and the twist of corruption become a pleasurable ecstasy that they revel in.”
“That’s somewhat twisted.”
Lu Ban remarked upon hearing this.
Du Danping looked at Lu Ban and then at Feng Yu, hesitating to comment further, and then said,
“I suspect that followers of [Heavenly Father] have already come to Utopia to create chaos. Meanwhile, their army is probably advancing towards Utopia, preparing to wage war.”
“But according to you, these [Heavenly Father] believers are all severely corrupted; wouldn’t one be able to recognize them at a glance?”
Feng Yu inquired.
“It’s not certain. The so-called corruption is not just external. Like diseases, both physical and mental illnesses are afflictions. Some of the [Heavenly Father]’s followers may look just like ordinary people on the outside, but their hearts have long been twisted. These followers then blend into the crowd to spread the pollution.”
Du Danping put away his notebook and returned the books on the table to the bookshelf.
“We need to not only win the election but also deal with the Chosen by Gods from other foreign domains and the [Heavenly Father]’s followers. If we fail in any aspect, Utopia could head towards destruction.”
“I’m not very good at socializing, so let me handle the search for these Chosen by Gods and [Heavenly Father]’s followers.”
Lu Ban said.
Campaign canvassing and such were not Lu Ban’s strengths; he was only good at writing a few words in those people’s minds.
Battling monsters was more Lu Ban’s forte.
“That’s not a concern. I’ll be attending a banquet tonight, several influential members of the Senate will be there, and we can get in touch with them to see if any Chosen by Gods from the other camps are present.”
Du Danping said with a smile.
“A banquet…”
Feng Yu glanced at Lu Ban.
Suddenly, she had the feeling that Lu Ban’s attendance might make the election at the academy even more challenging.
“What’s the matter, a banquet means there will be good food; we can enjoy a meal.”
Lu Ban said to Feng Yu, excitedly.
“Eat more when the time comes.”
Feng Yu replied perfunctorily.
“No problem!”
Lu Ban answered decisively.
He and Feng Yu changed into the attire for the banquet prepared by Du Danping and arrived at the entrance of a building beneath the pyramid at dusk.
This building, unlike others that served purely functional purposes, featured columns carved with lifelike plants and animals, appearing opulent, with bright lighting and bustling voices.
Lu Ban was dressed in a plain-colored robe, a symbol of a scholar from the academy, marked with the academy’s eye icon on the back of the robe.
Feng Yu was in a light white dress and sandals, at least a well-developed lady in her twenties, with much more poise than the teenagers from the Wasteland who had to take on managerial responsibilities, attracting many gazes as soon she appeared.
However, when Feng Yu took Lu Ban’s arm, those gentlemen all showed looks of disappointment.
And Lu Ban was only looking at the food at the banquet.
A dazzling array of food was laid out beside the tables, a culinary paradise compared to the brown mush they had eaten during the day.
Lu Ban picked up something that looked like the leg of some creature, charred on the surface, and swallowed.
“What is this?”
He asked a nearby server who was probably only fourteen or fifteen.
“Bug Leg.”
The female server paused, then replied.
Lu Ban’s face scrunched up like a bitter melon.
