I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 855 - 855 854. Utopia

Chapter 855: 854. Utopia Chapter 855: 854. Utopia Although the buildings in this city looked severely eroded and dilapidated, the quality of the residents was rather high, as everyone was orderly and queued in circles.

Most people were knocking on their bowls, waiting to eat, with very few actually listening to the young people speak.

Lu Ban queued while listening intently.

“We, the Yellow Sand Brotherhood, have been maintaining the security near Utopia for many years, fighting desert bandits and escorting traders. Our leader, Lord Iron Snake, with his strong leadership, will lead Utopia into exploring new worlds and acquiring more resources!”

“The reason we are living in such difficult times is that a vast amount of resources remain unexplored. Now, the true face of the Promised Land has been revealed, and we rightfully should claim our share!”

“Though the truth of history is widely known, we are not to blame. Are you willing to be tormented by illness and die early? We should seek ways to treat our diseases!”

Their words were highly provocative, clearly aiming to venture out from Utopia to explore unknown new worlds.

But obviously, in any era, very few people genuinely care about politics.

Some believe their will is insignificant; even if they had thoughts about the Saint’s election, it would not affect the overall situation. Others couldn’t even be sure what they would eat the next day, let alone consider the distant future.

Most were merely queuing woodenly, waiting to finish eating, since at least being full could keep them alive.

After queuing for about fifteen minutes, Lu Ban finally received his share.

A spoonful down, the thick brown liquid emitted a scent that wasn’t exactly appetizing, enough to deter the appetite of most people.

“Could I get a bit more, please? Look, my bowl is so big.”

Lu Ban asked.

The person in charge of distributing the food glanced at Lu Ban but didn’t give him an extra helping.

“Next, don’t dilly-dally.”

The server shooed Lu Ban along with his spoon.

Lu Ban could only walk away with his plate.

It was normal, in such situations, giving more food to one person could lead others to envy it and demand more as well, ultimately causing chaos and conflict.

The young people were still preaching while Lu Ban had already reached the edge of the street, where he crouched and enjoyably sent the brown mush into his mouth.

“This texture reminds me of something not very pleasant.”

Feng Yu scoffed nearby.

Lu Ban stopped halfway through his meal.

Upon closer inspection, the sticky texture, the deep brown color, the strange scent…

“Actually, it tastes okay, better than insects.”

Lu Ban finished off the content of his bowl in one gulp.

“It seems the people here know how to run an election, using food to win people over.”

Lu Ban wiped his mouth, and before he knew it, the bowl in his hand had disappeared.

“That’s trickery.”

Then, perhaps having heard Lu Ban’s words, a man in a windbreaker beside him chuckled lightly.

His voice was very soft, but Lu Ban still heard it.

Lu Ban noticed the tattoos on the man’s arm, forming strange patterns with the Crystals, perhaps a symbol of some organization.

“Do you think what they are doing is wrong?”

Lu Ban spoke up, causing the other person to look over.

There was a hint of surprise in that person’s eyes, as if amazed at how Lu Ban had heard those things.

But quickly, the other person regained composure, gave Lu Ban a deep look, memorizing his features, then turned and left.

“It seems the struggle has already begun,”

Feng Yu said meaningfully.

Lu Ban’s goal was to choose a faction to help them become a Saint, so first, he needed to understand the current factions and make his choice.

At the same time, there would be other Chosen by Gods as adversaries in this mission, and Lu Ban thought that if he could find the opposing Chosen by Gods in advance, it would be very helpful for him in choosing the faction to support.

After all, the faction chosen by the rival Chosen by Gods was definitely harmful to this world, making it a wrong option.

“Let’s find a place to settle down first.”

Feng Yu pointed to a cluster of low houses in front of them.

There were many residents in Utopia, but the city itself was also large, divided into several areas. Those living near the Oasis were city administrators who often left the city to explore the ruins between the deserts.

A bit farther away, surrounding the central pyramid-like structure were some of the city’s soldiers and administrative staff.

In an even further circle, were the common residents. These inhabitants mostly didn’t own much, and although affected by Crystal disease, they hadn’t awakened powerful supernatural abilities and couldn’t go exploring.

On the city’s fringes, there were numerous vacant houses left for itinerant merchants; what intrigued Lu Ban was that although these empty houses seemed easy targets for criminals, upon arriving here, he found that the houses were all clean and no one had encroached on them. Each house was occupied by one person, and there were no conflicts between the residents.

He and Feng Yu found a house that looked quite decent, and just as they walked in, they were stopped by a young man nearby.

“You’d better write your names on the plate.”

The other person pointed to the plaque by the door and the black stones beside it.

“If you don’t claim ownership of the house first, you might be mistaken for thieves and robbers.”

Lu Ban, somewhat skeptical, picked up a stone and wrote his and Feng Yu’s names on a stone plaque at the entrance.

“How does it look a bit odd?”

Feng Yu glanced at it, and the names, written one on the left and the other on the right, looked like a couple’s.

“Don’t mind the details.”

Lu Ban tossed the black stone back and asked curiously.

“Is this enough? Why do we have to sign first?”

“Huh? Is this your first time in Utopia? No, even if it’s your first time, you definitely should have heard about this.”

The man stroked his messy beard; though he seemed to be only seventeen or eighteen, the beard made him look quite mature.

“Never mind, seeing that you both are so old, maybe your memory isn’t that great.”

He eyed Lu Ban and Feng Yu; for him, people in their twenties indeed seemed quite elderly.

In the Wasteland, because of the Crystal disease, most people didn’t live past twenty-five, and teenagers were already considered the backbone of society.

People in their twenties were considered near the end of their days.

“This city is protected by the power of a Saint, and anyone who violates the Rules will be punished. The rule set by that Saint is that anyone can own their house, as long as they sign their name, they can gain ownership.”

He explained, then pointed to his own house.

“I’m Savage Bull. If there’s anything else you don’t understand, you can come to me, I live right there.”
