I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 850 - 850 849. The Moment of Ascension

Chapter 850: 849. The Moment of Ascension Chapter 850: 849. The Moment of Ascension Lu Ban opened his eyes, feeling the knowledge flow into his mind.

Baobao was indeed helping Lu Ban access various Foreign Domains to absorb knowledge and explore the unknown, protecting those clueless kids from delving too deeply into the Foreign Domains and frying their brains—walking out from the palliative care wards, only to end up in the psych wards.

And these players on the brink of death were indeed quite impressive.

Perhaps because they had already seen through everything and merely thought living on was a victory, they exhibited astonishing courage in the face of all kinds of danger and fear, even outperforming those with extraordinary abilities in completing the missions.

Of course, their lives were more or less extended in the course of these missions.

Because what they encountered was the Pollution of the Foreign Domains, and this Pollution itself possessed power; the Corrosion it caused to the human body actually constrained the mutated parts.

Human cancers were no match for the mutation of the Foreign Domains.

Lu Ban thus witnessed many histories within these Foreign Domains.

Like the terrifying waves above He Dao, the legends of mermaids and sea monsters, along with the hidden treasures.

Like the rise and fall of Night Country amid the Demonic Tide, and the evil breeding in the concealed corners.

Like the struggling creatures in the sewers of Abandoned Capital, the crisscrossing conspiracies of the opulent banquets.

Like the expeditions searching for water sources in the Wasteland, and cities rebuilt upon the ruins.

And like the inverted Pyramids standing on the deserts in the unknown Foreign Domains.

This knowledge continuously flooded into his mind, eroding and mutating every cell; the excessive Pollution caused his whole form to collapse and boil over, like a stinking muck.

When the final player returned and this phase came to a temporary close, Lu Ban finally reverted to human form.

He stood up, his hands still somewhat unrecognizable as human.

From his ears grew green shoots, and the greedy leaves absorbed the sunlight, flowering into blossoms with mouths.

Scales would appear on his body from time to time, disappearing rapidly to be replaced by skin as smooth as that of a catfish, soon growing out pointed spikes, which bloomed with new buds and then withered.

As for his internal organs, they had gone through three world wars during this time; the liver was the first to surrender, devoured by the neighboring kidney, while the stomach allied with the intestines, preparing to cross the diaphragm and advance towards the lungs, with the heart gone somewhere unknown, but still maintaining its beat.

In Lu Ban’s vision, the world was no longer as it was.

Tables, beds, computers had all morphed into strange forms, as if they were showing their true selves; tiny worms floated in the air, clinging to walls and curtains, gnawing at everything.

Lu Ban closed his eyes, then opened them again, finally restoring the world to its original state.

He glanced at his mission progress.

[Knowledge: 8520000/10000000]

With the players’ efforts, the progress of accumulating knowledge was quite fast, far beyond Lu Ban’s expectations.

He just needed them to execute the second mission, and Lu Ban felt he could achieve his minor goal this time.

He rested for a while, turned on the TV, and glanced at the news.

As for the previous series of violent incidents abroad, there were many organizations issuing statements claiming responsibility, probably because such bizarre simultaneous deaths had a hint of mystery; hence, these organizations felt they could use it to showcase their prowess and took responsibility.

The investigation continued, and for the moment, Lu Ban had not found any traces of Baobao’s movements having been discovered.

He caught the second piece of news.

It was roughly about a Space Probe that had been launched earlier, sent out beyond Earth to search for potential extraterrestrial life.

It was brought up now because the probe appeared to have received some regular signals.

The universe was actually filled with a multitude of signals; some were ancient, from billions of years ago, some were just noise, and others were cries emitted at the birth and death of stars. Most of these signals were chaotic and disorganized; regular signals were scarce.

Mention of regular signals suggested the possibility of a communication from a civilization, like humans that had also sent out many regular signals into the universe to date; if one day extraterrestrial beings received these signals, they might also consider the Golden Bumper Harvest Song to be the last message of some alien civilization.

The news went on and on, and listening to the signals being played, Lu Ban couldn’t shake the feeling that they sounded vaguely familiar.

Just like the mumblings of an indescribable being.

Or perhaps…

“Achoo—”

Baobao sneezed and rubbed her nose.

“Human bodies really are inconvenient, still sneezing and all.”

She suddenly appeared on the sofa next to Lu Ban, still wearing an oversized T-shirt and jeans.

“Sounds a bit familiar.”

Lu Ban glanced at Baobao.

“Is that your voice?”

He pointed at the television screen.

“Hm? It does sound like me… Huh, how did it get recorded?”

She moved closer to the television, listening intently.

“I just passed by there, talking to myself for a bit; I didn’t do anything to your detector.”

She explained it like that.

“Really didn’t you…”

Lu Ban couldn’t help but suspect that Baobao might add something else to the detector, then lead humanity to discover extraterrestrial life, sparking a crazy wave of worship.

“I’m not interested in that kind of thing.”

Baobao waved her hand.

“I didn’t even say anything yet.”

Lu Ban felt this mind-reading was getting a bit outrageous.

“Let’s not talk about that for now, are you preparing to send them to a new Foreign Domain again?”

Baobao poked Lu Ban’s hand, and the muscle caved in like mud.

“Yes.”

Lu Ban answered.

“Although your capacity to endure Pollution far exceeds anyone else I’ve seen before, there’s still a limit, and if you can’t become an existence like ours, those beings will inevitably overwhelm you.”

Baobao said with a hint of worry.

That tone was like watching one’s beloved toy being clutched by the neighbor’s vicious dog, fearing it would be torn to shreds by sharp teeth.

“Seriously, why not become one of my Clan? The title might not sound very appealing, but at least it’s akin to being an Ancient Overlord, quite fun, you know.”

“No, thanks.”

Lu Ban had no plans to become a toy just yet.

Besides, he had a feeling.

Though the knowledge from the Foreign Domain was causing his body to undergo Mutation, Lu Ban’s spirit was growing ever stronger — often he could overlook the entire Foreign Domain, unveiling all its secrets.

It was as if, in a game, the character’s body was still confined to the screen, but their thoughts had moved beyond it, sitting together with the Players.

Perhaps when his knowledge reached its limit, Lu Ban might also transcend human limitations, ascending to divinity.
