I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 834 - 834 833. Sprout
Chapter 834: 833. Sprout Chapter 834: 833. Sprout Watching everything he’d created, Lu Ban felt as though currents of destiny swept him forward.
The Pure Fire was still spreading, but at least he had one last moment to bid farewell to the giant.
Descending into the pit, Lu Ban saw that most of Old Song’s body had been devoured. His innards and blood scattered, marking the final countdown of his life.
The giant was breathing his last. He stared at the breaking dawn with unfocused eyes.
“Are you still here?”
Old Song asked.
He could have been addressing Lu Ban and Shia or his own comrades.
“Still here.”
Lu Ban replied, while the flames were slowly cascading down, gradually engulfing Old Song’s body.
Old Song didn’t feel any pain, or perhaps his body had already lost the ability to feel pain.
Only the slowness of death allowed him to retain some consciousness at that moment.
Hearing Lu Ban’s voice, Old Song weakly lifted his eyes.
The Pure Fire burned in his unfocused gaze, like the last twilight of a civilization.
“You said… you come from the future, right?”
Old Song, with his last bit of strength, asked.
“Yes.”
Lu Ban nodded in confirmation.
“So, in the future, the future you’re from, did we defeat this Pollution, successfully break free from the Outer Gods’ Corrosion? Everything we’re doing now, all these sacrifices, they all have meaning, don’t they?”
Old Song asked.
It seemed like he was questioning Lu Ban, but also seeking reassurance from himself.
Lu Ban fell silent for a moment.
“…Yes.”
Shia answered for him.
“We have defeated the Pollution, those Indescribable great beings have all been sealed away, and everyone is free to acquire knowledge, share knowledge. Our footprints are all over the Foreign Domain, and we gained the ultimate victory. Statues of you pioneers have been erected at the very heart of cities, revered by all.”
Her voice was gentle, like the Silence of the flames, like a Lullaby that lulls a baby to sleep.
Hearing Shia’s words, a look of relief spread across Old Song’s face.
“Ah, that is… truly wonderful.”
The light left his eyes.
The flames consumed Old Song’s body without emotion, without leaving anything behind.
In the sky, the Crimson sun was overtaken by the Pure Fire, continuously pouring out black sludge, which turned into ghastly monsters, spreading in all directions.
Finally, the sun was completely extinguished, but even more unclean things, in an effort to escape the Pure Fire, had already left this land.
The filth still descended upon this world.
They would engage in a millennia-long struggle with the Pure Fire, driving the world headlong toward destruction.
The Pure Fire spread, and the entire Island would fall into a sea of fire.
Lu Ban saw a boat not far away; he wanted to notify them to get Zhang Zheng and the others to leave quickly.
He took two steps, then realized Shia hadn’t moved.
“What are you going to do?”
Lu Ban asked, already knowing the answer.
“Do you remember what we’re here for?”
Shia smiled and pointed towards the center of the island, engulfed in fierce flames.
“Witness the sprouting,” Lu Ban answered.
The Divine Sakura would germinate somewhere in Harmony Island, grow, and become a towering giant tree, the source of Pure Fire.
The souls of all the Shrine Maidens born in this world in the future would return to the Divine Sakura, and they would transform into a tremendous will, fighting the profane beings that plagued Harmony Island.
“My time is running out,” Shia said as she took off her armor and opened her clothing.
Beneath the clothes, the sight of the girl’s body, already unrecognizable from the pollution and corrosion, was startling; all her organs had ceased their natural function, transmuting into writhing foreign matter that was consuming Shia’s life.
Had it not been for the spells, Shia would have been dead many times over by now.
Even so, she could hardly suppress the final mutation.
Her life was like a candle in the wind.
“I told you I met Du Danping in the Wasteland, and he had encountered the future you. I didn’t tell you that I also asked about my own fate in the future,”
Shia spoke in a calm tone, like that pale fire.
“Now, it’s time for that fate to arrive.”
“I’ve also touched Pure Fire in the Silent Lands, and I know its origin. It needs the most extreme emotions to be created and the strongest soul to control it. I can do it, and I am the only one who can,”
she stated as if presenting her thesis to a mentor, without a hint of hesitation.
“The spells Cui Siter used in your world, I’ve improved them to prevent any problems from arising one day. Thus, it requires a continuous input of firewood. Now, I only need you to help me with one thing.”
Shia’s eyes slightly lowered; she knew how brutally harsh this was for Lu Ban, but it was also indispensable for this world, so she continued.
“Here, the Divine Sakura will germinate, grow. I need a continuous supply of firewood; I need sacrifices. I need those most painful souls, those most hopeful wills to plummet into the deepest despair at the moment of their fall.”
“I need you to establish the Great Shrine of Harmony Island.”
Upon hearing Shia’s words, Lu Ban remained silent.
He glanced at Baobao, the girl in the red and white Shrine Maiden costume, her smile as pure and bright as moonlight.
From Shia’s body, slippery tentacles extended, and without the restraint of spells, those organs began to frantically devour the girl’s body.
She turned and walked towards the center of The Island.
With each step, the Pure Fire retreated as if in fear, clearing a path for her.
Shia’s clothing had been burnt away, revealing her battered body, with only her slightly curled golden hair fluttering in the inferno, which turned pitch black under the burning of Pure Fire. Her eyes, green as lake water, had taken on the color of flames, turning into a flesh-like pink.
The fire across the whole island seemed to be tamed, suddenly contracting.
Lu Ban quickly saw something pulsing and blooming from the very center of The Island.
A touch of green burst forth from the mountain, spreading rapidly, covering the entire island. In a blink of an eye, a plant occupied everything the eye could see.
The robust trunk twisted, and on its branches, lush green leaves proliferated.
Suddenly, between the Windless Belt, a breeze blew.
With that breeze, the towering tree took on a hint of cherry color.
Countless flowers vied to bloom, and petals cascaded like rain, floating softly to the ground.
This was the sprouting.
Lu Ban now knew the phenomenon he had witnessed.
This was the site of the Great Shrine of Harmony Island. He would visit here again in a distant future and a long-gone past.
Every encounter is a reunion after a long separation.
“Through the ages of the divine era, dim and unheard, the maples dye Long Tian Chuan, where the waters flow deep and murmuring,”
Baobao quietly recited this poem. Beneath the shower of blossoms, this avatar of the Outer Gods watched everything unfold with detached eyes.
