I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 829 - 829 828. Ignorance is the greatest wisdom

Chapter 829: 828. Ignorance is the greatest wisdom Chapter 829: 828. Ignorance is the greatest wisdom All things grow.

Tall monstrous trees bore skinless human heads that wept blood tears. Their mouths hung open, revealing hollow throats through to their necks, emitting a whining sound with the wind’s whisper, like mourning. But these heads had faces fixed with a frenetic grin, the laughter mixing with the crying, sending chills down one’s spine.

A giant wave of blood surged forth, laden with a pungent stench of decay, sweeping over the treetops and reviving a ruddy glow to their already dried faces.

The enormous serpent in the sky headed towards Lu Ban’s location, its body leaving behind a thick, foul mucus. It rode the blood waves, amplifying them, until the waves obscured the crimson sun and coated everything within Lu Ban’s sight.

“This is the disturbance we’ve brought.”

Old Song remained calm, retracting his flashlight and pulling out a gun-shaped device from his pack.

“Pollution tends to spread towards areas that are not yet contaminated. By appearing here, we are in a zone with extremely low Pollution concentration, and those Pollutants will naturally spread in this direction.”

The gun had no trigger, no muzzle, it seemed to be only a piece of silver metal shaped like a firearm. Holding it in his hand, Old Song raised the gun towards the oncoming horde.

In the next moment, although there was no action of pulling a trigger, Lu Ban felt he heard the sound of a gunshot.

The pervasive tide of creatures suddenly had a hole torn in it, as if ripped apart by some invisible force, and countless pieces of flesh turned to dust, dissipating into the void.

The surging wave of monsters stalled, the gaping hole not easily filled, causing the entire space to tremble slightly.

But Old Song did not cease his actions. He fired again and again; with several silent shots, the monsters that had gathered in the entire buffer zone smashed to pieces, becoming as tranquil and serene as paradise.

In myths, angels descending could quell wars and calamities, but now it seemed that these arriving “angels” might have to be clad in powered Armor, wielding chainsaw swords, and shouldering flamethrowers to do battle with those terrifying and ferocious demons.

Simultaneously, other giants began their work, too, pulling out stands from their packs and placing several box-like devices on them. Rather than preparing to clean up the battlefield, it seemed more like they were starting to conduct what looked like surveying work.

The boxes emitted light, sweeping across the entire space and including the crimson sun.

Soon, the box made a beeping sound, as if it were collecting data.

“The Pollution concentration has risen again; it seems we need to continue suppressing the Pollution core.”

Old Song glanced at the indecipherable characters flashing on the box and quickly came to a conclusion.

Thump, thump, thump—

His counter started wildly jumping numbers, its frequency already surpassing ten times a second.

“The Pollution concentration is rapidly increasing; we have nine hundred seconds until we breach the protective limit.”

One of the giants read off the data.

Accompanying the counter’s rattling sound, Lu Ban felt a palpitation in his chest, sensing changes in his body. Under his skin, worm-like veins swelled, carrying dark yellow pus instead of blood, flowing to his heart, causing the pulsing organ to wither.

He could see, even in the space partitioned by the black pillars, that the void now began to drift with nameless spores and grew a grey, viscous layer of fungal mycelium.

Merely being irradiated by the crimson sun was enough to cause mutations to the degree that would alter a person.

If the notion that knowledge was Pollution had already been enough to overturn the common knowledge of ordinary people, then here, everything within the deep well was counter-cognitive.

When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back into you.

Similarly, when you became aware of the existence of the Outer Gods, the Outer Gods had also turned their gaze upon you.

Any attempt to understand, to analyze the great, Indescribable existence, would invite disaster.

Ignorance was indeed the greatest wisdom.

“Don’t worry, the data will be collected in about a hundred seconds. Just hold on a little longer, and once I take you out, you can return to your original state, well, provided you can still maintain the will of being human.”

Old Song said this. He was focused on collecting data, occasionally taking time out to blast away the obstacles with gunfire, showing little concern for Lu Ban’s life or death.

Shia, it seemed, had used a Spell to seal off her cognition like a puppet standing next to the equipment, stiffly moving from time to time to prevent being stepped on by the other giants.

Shia, who could make mature books read themselves, clearly had her own understanding of how to protect against Pollution.

Nevertheless, her body had undergone certain changes, the limbs beneath her Armor swelling slightly as if inflated, but it was only because of the sturdy steel that prevented the things inside her body from escaping.

At locations close to the source of Pollution, even mere existence could bring catastrophe to the surroundings.

At this moment, Lu Ban had to be grateful for his True Sight. In such circumstances, even if he gouged out his own eyes, True Sight would still deliver first-hand Pollution information to his brain, though not exactly a blessing in disguise, it could be described as adding fuel to the fire.

He quickly collapsed to the ground, his form dissolving, slackening into a bubbling puddle of flesh.

In this state, Lu Ban’s ability to resist Pollution had actually strengthened considerably.

Like how a person of normal build might need to exert significant effort and time just to lose a kilogram or two, but an overweight person could lose several kilograms just by skipping a meal—having nothing left to lose meant he naturally didn’t fear Pollution.

Old Song glanced at Lu Ban, finding the guy quite interesting, and some experimental ideas flickered through his mind.

But he quickly cast these thoughts aside; monitoring the data was still the most important.

A hundred seconds passed, and this buffer area was boiling like the grandest hot pot, red, white, pink, green, and yellow churning above and below, like the limbs of humans and beasts twirling in mid-air, forming head after head of grotesque and eerie monsters, which were then rapidly blown apart by Old Song’s gunfire.

In a daze, Lu Ban felt that the handgun in Old Song’s hand had some traces of “Testament” to it.

The light from that red sun shone down on Lu Ban, making him feel warm, as if he were returning home.

He felt himself being picked up, like carrying a bag of bubble tea with added coconut jelly.

As he swung back and forth, Lu Ban’s thoughts also drifted outside the deep well. He thought of many things and then suddenly had a doubt.

“Hmm? Weren’t there three of us when we came in?”
