I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 826 - 826 825. Deep Well
Chapter 826: 825. Deep Well Chapter 826: 825. Deep Well Hearing Lu Ban’s words, Old Song smiled.
“I understand what you’re saying, but to pull the future of this Foreign Domain back within the limits of Hegra’s extremity is easier said than done. We have already made all possible attempts, but can only stabilize the pollution here, without being able to slow down the rhythm of the Outer Gods’ revival.”
“We have to make the final decision in as soon as three days.”
He said.
“Can we go have a look near the core?”
Lu Ban asked again.
“Near the core? Have you lost your mind?”
Old Song glanced at the gradually dimming column of light at the center of the small island.
“The pollution there is far beyond imagination, even for us, wearing such protective suits, we can only stay there for a few dozen minutes.”
“You’ll ultimately need to check the situation here anyway, right? You can take me with you.”
Lu Ban did not back down.
“You can take me, too.”
Shia also followed.
“Alright, when night falls, I’ll take my team for one last check on the status of the core. You can come with us then, but it’s very dangerous there, so you’d better be careful.”
Old Song seemed persuaded by Lu Ban, he answered.
After nightfall, the island didn’t become colder, but instead, the hot wind, carrying a grainy sensation, continued to blow.
As the sunlight faded and night descended, the reddish central part of the island glimmered, like an everlasting sunset.
Although Old Song talked about bailing out, he still did his duty by providing Lu Ban and Shia with two small protective suits.
These protective suits looked like just a layer of cloth, but fit perfectly when worn, breathable yet able to block out pollution. Lu Ban tried them on, ordinary sharp instruments couldn’t cut through the fabric at all, and even in the water, the suit could help extract oxygen.
Lu Ban thought the high technology was quite good.
Of course, he and Shia couldn’t walk as fast as the giants. And of course, given their size, they couldn’t stand on the shoulders of the giants, so instead, they sat in the palms of the two giants.
Passing through the beach, Old Song’s squad entered the forest at the heart of the island.
That forest had already mutated due to pollution. However, because of the core’s containment, it hadn’t yet reached the point of total chaos. The leaves displayed deep purple, azure blue, bright yellow, and other metallic shades of color. The tender buds on the branches started to wriggle, as if new branches were about to sprout.
There were no other animals on the island. Those creatures had turned into monsters at the onset of the pollution’s spread and were wiped clean by the people from the Splendid Realm. Now, there was silence so profound that even the moonlight seemed entranced by it.
Tap—
A clear sound suddenly came from a white box hanging on Old Song’s shoulder, like the ticking of a clock.
Tap—
That sound came at a regular rhythm, occurring every few dozen seconds.
“This is a device that can detect the concentration of pollution. When the frequency of this sound increases, it means that the surrounding pollution concentration has risen.”
Old Song tapped the box.
“Believe me, you wouldn’t want to hear it getting noisy.”
Tap—
As soon as he finished speaking, the box sounded again.
“The pollution here is, quite frankly, very well-contained. Using deep well techniques, we’ve been able to restrict the pollution of the Outer Gods to within three kilometers of the island’s center, but the pollution is still leaking out.”
Old Song explained, walking steadily through the woods. The surroundings grew ever darker, but the sense of silence had vanished, replaced by a subtle buzzing.
This buzzing, rustling sound came from the tips of each plant, from under every fallen leaf, from every crevice in all the rocks.
All things were growing, all the plants wanting to sprout anew.
The sounds of those plants squirming made one’s teeth sour and sent chills down one’s spine.
But for the people of the Splendid Realm, these were all just noise.
“It seems the pollution’s impact on this area has deepened again,”
Old Song said, waving his hand.
A giant retrieved a firearm from the containment equipment they were dragging.
He took it in his hand and pulled the trigger.
The next moment, intense fire erupted from the barrel, the nearly cyan flames instantly sweeping away the plants in front of them.
There were no ashes, no spreading blaze; all matter sublimated into gas in an instant.
Even the ground was scorched into the appearance of crystal glass.
Lu Ban couldn’t help but take a closer look at that spray gun.
[“Doesn’t need oxygen to burn, clean, hygienic, no pollution”]
[“Can incinerate most organics, the best choice for cleaning and maintenance”]
[“Elegantly designed, industrial standard, can be used for car interior decoration”]
“That’s amazing,”
Lu Ban exclaimed.
“The core area is just ahead,”
Old Song didn’t pay attention to Lu Ban’s admiration, but pointed ahead.
After the forest was burnt down, the view suddenly opened up.
There, in the center of the island, where there should have been mountains, now stood only a pitch-black pillar.
The shaft’s cross-section was a perfect circle, enveloping an area of about three kilometers in radius.
A certain kind of light seeped from that black pillar, reflecting off the night sky, casting it in a scarlet hue.
“This is the Deep Well,”
Old Song said as he moved forward.
“Using certain technologies, we fold space, and as long as the curvature of the space fold exceeds the rate of pollution dispersion, we can contain pollution within this area.”
His words were easy to understand.
Pollution disperses at a certain rate, and no matter the kind of pollution, it can’t contaminate others without spreading, just like Lu Ban—if he had not seen Aldebaran, then no matter what, Aldebaran’s grand existence would never find him.
To common people, this bottom limit of pollution dispersal speed could approximate the speed of light; in other words, by the time you see those Divine Beings, you’ve already been contaminated.
So theoretically, if a Foreign Domain could escape the source of contamination with a velocity exceeding this dispersal rate, then that Foreign Domain would never be contaminated.
This was also one of the more feasible plans conceived by the Splendid Realm for the continuation of civilization.
But the problem is, with current technologies, the people of the Splendid Realm cannot manufacture devices that would allow them to safely travel beyond this extreme speed.
However, while researching these plans, the Splendid Realm inadvertently obtained some other technologies, like the current Deep Well technology.
Research into the speed of pollution dispersal had several directions, one being the acceleration faction that favored active escape, and another being the containment faction that sought to bind pollution. The containment faction proposed a concept: if one could research a space that expands indefinitely, then could we place the source of pollution in this space, allowing the space to extend infinitely and thereby achieving the encapsulation of the pollution source?
While a true indefinitely expanding space has yet to be realized, they indeed created a Deep Well device that restricts the spread of pollution to the greatest extent.
“Within the Deep Well slumbers one of the Outer Gods,”
As Old Song’s voice faded, a faint rumble could be heard emanating from that pitch-black pillar.
