Chapter 803 - 803 802. Its so quiet on the sea
Chapter 803: 802. It’s so quiet on the sea. Chapter 803: 802. It’s so quiet on the sea. “I’m going to die here?”
Lu Ban listened to Shia’s words and didn’t react for a moment.
But looking into her eyes, Lu Ban quickly had a guess.
“Have you experienced another mission after the last one, and in that mission, you learned of my death?”
Lu Ban blurted out.
“Mm… I’ve told you before, I once took part in a mission in the Wasteland, where I encountered Du Danping. Since you mentioned that Du Danping had already died in your world, I thought I could try to save him by telling him about it.”
Shia nodded slightly, the sea breeze blowing her golden hair tips, and her eyes, green like lake water, were filled with many thoughts.
“Then, I successfully embarked on a mission in the Wasteland and found Du Danping, telling him all these things.”
“What was his reaction?”
Lu Ban was curious.
Hearing Lu Ban’s question, Shia fell silent for a moment before speaking.
“He didn’t care about his own future. Instead, he told me something—about having met you.”
Shia wasn’t finished, but Lu Ban had already guessed some of the gist.
Obviously, Lu Ban hadn’t met Du Danping in person—the cremated corpse didn’t count.
If Du Danping told Shia that he had met Lu Ban, then this meeting, from Lu Ban’s perspective, would definitely be in the future.
This meant that in a future mission, Lu Ban would go to the Wasteland to seek out Du Danping.
Since the materials needed to upgrade Lu Ban’s “Testament” did not concern the Wasteland, Lu Ban hadn’t planned on completing that mission in the Wasteland anytime soon. But now, with Shia’s words, he felt like he ought to go and see the situation himself.
Thinking this, Lu Ban suddenly felt a bit late to the party.
Because the past Du Danping met the future Lu Ban, the past Shia learned of it, leading the current Shia to tell the current Lu Ban and piquing his interest. This would lead the future Lu Ban to choose to go to the Wasteland, completing the cycle of fate.
Who was the cause and who was the effect in the Foreign Domain no longer mattered.
“Since he’s met the future me, it means this mission should be safe, so how could there be danger?”
Lu Ban found it strange again.
“Because Du Danping said that when he saw you, you were in very bad shape, looking like you had been severely polluted in the previous mission, close to death.”
Shia replied immediately.
“I was severely polluted?”
Lu Ban frowned.
If you talked about Pollution, Lu Ban indeed faced it every day, but to him, it was all part of the routine.
For Du Danping to notice something was off, the Pollution must be quite severe.
Considering the difficulty of this mission, Lu Ban realized this world might not be as simple as it seemed.
“Did he mention any other useful information?”
Putting aside his own affair, since it seemed he would still be alive to meet Du Danping, Lu Ban certainly wouldn’t pass up this chance.
He had already collected three of Du Danping’s Melody Fragments. The last piece, he figured, would likely require meeting the man himself.
Since the very beginning, from his first encounter with the Foreign Domain and those “Indescribable” beings, Lu Ban had been searching for Du Danping’s traces. Now it seemed that going to the Wasteland was the easiest way to find Du Danping, for Du Danping had already met the future Lu Ban. So, as long as Lu Ban went to the Wasteland, he was destined to meet Du Danping—it was a cycle of fate.
“He said he was looking for a way to resist Pollution.”
Shia glanced at Lu Ban, then turned her gaze to the endless ocean.
“He believed he was close to encountering a Divine Being of the [Silence] level and that Du Danping was trying to find a path of salvation for his own world amidst the Divine Beings’ struggle.”
“A path of salvation?”
Lu Ban was unaware if Du Danping ever found it. The Chosen by the Gods had vanished in the end, basked in the light of Aldebaran at the Jiangcheng Grand Theater amidst a blaze.
But at least in the twenty-odd years after Du Danping’s death, the world he protected still existed.
“Did he mention anything I said in the future?”
Lu Ban continued to inquire.
He was well aware that if he was indeed to encounter something cataclysmic on this mission, these snippets from the future might become the chisel that would lock the unobserved and non-existent past into place, forever fixing his fate.
Still, he was curious.
Just like Cui Siter, if one had to face an inevitable fate, at least one should clearly confront the destined future.
“No, Du Danping was well aware that once certain information got out, everything would become set in stone. He thought there was still room for change.”
Shia’s eyes lowered.
Lu Ban also understood; even if he did say something to Du Danping in the future, and Du Danping relayed it to Shia, she wouldn’t share it with Lu Ban.
Because once the current Lu Ban knew what his future self would say, then he indeed would be locked by the cycle of fate. But for now, there was still room for reversal and, as a partner, Shia certainly wanted to save Lu Ban.
Just as they wanted to save Cui Siter.
Of course, Shia also understood that, as a Chosen by the Gods, if they indeed needed to sacrifice themselves to save a civilization, they would step forward, even knowing death awaited and still forging ahead unflinchingly.
“What are you talking about?”
A voice suddenly came from behind Lu Ban. He turned around, and Baobao was already there, wearing a new outfit, standing on the deck.
Her attire—a white robe and red hakama pants, with white socks—resembled that of a Shrine Maiden and caught the attention of many sailors.
Because she also had black hair, Baobao indeed bore some resemblance to the Shrine Maiden from The Island that Lu Ban knew.
“Who is she?”
Shia frowned, thinking this was a newbie Lu Ban had brought along. But then again, it was unlikely for a newbie to join a [Splendid] level mission.
“You can call her Baobao.”
Lu Ban introduced.
“Baobao?”
Shia looked skeptically at the girl.
Baobao’s appearance was simply too striking, so much that even the sailors were distracted from their work, and even Shia’s subconscious couldn’t bring herself to see Baobao as an enemy, which made Shia wary.
This level of allure was definitely beyond what a normal human could possess.
“Hello, I’m Baobao.”
Baobao greeted generously, then glanced around.
“The sea is so quiet, and there are no other Ancient Overlords.”
“Quiet?”
Shia was puzzled.
“It seems this part of the Foreign Domain temporarily lacks my avatar. Should I create one?”
Baobao tilted her head, her finger on her lips, as if she was pondering.
“An avatar?”
Shia looked at Lu Ban.
“She is an avatar of an Outer God.”
Lu Ban reintroduced her.
