I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 790 - 790 789. Divine Idol of the Goddess of Dark
Chapter 790: 789. [Divine Idol of the Goddess of Dark Fertility]_1 Chapter 790: 789. [Divine Idol of the Goddess of Dark Fertility]_1 This tall statue was just like those displayed in churches, modeled after the peculiar shape of the Virgin Mary. However, through the lens of True Sight, the exterior of the statue was stone, while its innards were constantly squirming dark red flesh. And at the core of the flesh was another divine idol.
Without hesitation, Lu Ban took aim and fired at the idol.
Bang—
After a moment, the idol crumbled apart, splattering dark red flesh and creating a small shower of blood.
The idol within the flesh fell out, landing on the ground.
Lu Ban noticed that deep yellow grasses and plants had already started to grow around the idol. These plants squirmed like worms.
He reached out and picked it up.
The part of the idol that touched the ground had become viscous, as though it was the flesh of some creature. Picking up the idol was like tearing a lump off one’s skin; the contact area blurred like a wound. From the sullied break, countless tiny white objects, similar to insect eggs, oozed out.
Upon touching the ground, these insect eggs began to hatch, quickly turning into white worms. The worms fed on the corroded ground and, in the blink of an eye, started to split and multiply.
Lu Ban thoughtfully stepped on them as one might step in a pile of cow dung.
He then regretfully turned his gaze to the statue in his hand.
The spot where the statue touched Lu Ban’s hand began to undergo changes. Lu Ban could sense his skin cells at the contact point starting to divide and multiply, a mad proliferation similar to that of cancer cells drawing nutrients from the surroundings. The newly born cells had constantly wriggling cilia, causing fine, undulating down to sprout on Lu Ban’s palm.
Perhaps this was what those horror novels meant by hair growing on a corpse. The decayed body was invaded by pollution and erosion, causing the once inanimate cells to begin multiplying again, leading to the appearance of such down.
Within the down, new life was gestating. In just a brief contact, Lu Ban’s palm experienced a round of life evolution.
However, since it was Lu Ban’s own hand, he definitely couldn’t let those things continue growing.
So, he placed the idol on the ground and brushed his hands off.
He had, at least, snuffed out those civilizations still in the Stone Age.
Meanwhile, Lu Ban’s right hand materialized with the silver steel pen, “Testament”. He considered for a moment, then placed his hand back on the idol, and countless words emerged.
However, these words were not only in languages that Lu Ban understood. There were many more he could not comprehend, perhaps even Silent Lands wouldn’t be capable of translating them.
Texts from civilizations long extinct, vanished from existence, seemed to be contained within this idol as well.
The Dark One, Fecund Goddess’s Idol
Do not try to understand, feel, listen
Symbolic of the dominion over fertility and growth, it only takes a moment to make the world flourish.
Offering sacrifices to it may summon the clan of a great existence.
Be cautious when communicating with the Supreme God, madness is one of the better outcomes.
The idol was like a congregation of mist, formed from a nebula of thin flesh. Within the mist, numerous terrifying pitch-black tentacles and huge tooth-filled maws appeared and disappeared. At the base of the mist, the foundation of the idol, were hooves as rugged as those of a goat.
It looked like the progenitor of the monsters that lurked in Miskatonic, but after staring at it for a moment, Lu Ban felt his eyes starting to swell and itch. Blinking, he discovered that branches and grass had started to spread over his eyeballs—as if mere sight could lead to severe pollution and erosion.
Fortunately, Lu Ban promptly dissolved into flesh and reassembled, incorporating the pollution into his body.
“What a dangerous thing, no wonder it was placed inside the idol.”
Lu Ban estimated that this thing had been poured over with concrete and sealed inside the statue, but due to its extraordinary nature, it had turned the concrete into flesh, and the pollution had leaked out, affecting the people around.
He guessed that every so often, the statue would need to be dealt with anew to prevent the true Divine Idol’s power within from spilling out.
Lu Ban thought for a moment, and the steel pen in his hand turned into a revolver, which he used to fire the murmurs of that great being from the distant stars into the interior of the Divine Idol.
After waiting for a while, the statue did not change in the slightest, to the extent that grass began growing in Lu Ban’s eyes again.
“It seems that the divine rank of this Divine Being is far above the great presence on Aldebaran…”
Lu Ban concluded.
In the Foreign Domain, stronger pollution cannot be overriden by weaker pollution, and the same is true for the Ancient Overlords; the fact that The Dark One could confront the sealed Ancient Overlord means his divine rank is much higher than that of the Lord of the Mountains inside Jiangcheng Mountain. And now, this statue withstood the influence of Aldebaran’s great being, which indicates that the pollution of the god it represents is likely even more superior.
Lu Ban quickly recalled what Charlotte had told him, that even among the Ancient Overlords, there are ranks.
Among them, three are the Supreme Gods, the most exalted beings.
One is Charlotte’s true form, the entity with many faces, wandering the Foreign Domain, whose schemes were unknown.
Another is the being worshipped by the people of the Splendid Realm, capable of bringing forth endless knowledge and pollution.
Then the third one may be this Divine Being, born out of darkness, governing propagation and growth.
Even one Divine Idol of It could plunge the city into madness, struggling in an eternal cycle. If its true form or an incarnation were to descend…
The scene is hard to imagine.
But according to what Scott had said, at the end of the cycle, no matter how hard one tried, all humans, animals, plants, and even buildings would begin to reproduce. Perhaps at the end of this grand sacrificial ritual, a breath of that entity would brush over this place in some unknowable way.
From this perspective, by extracting Miskatonic from this period of time, one had indeed saved the world.
Thinking this, Lu Ban turned his head and looked towards Scott.
“This is the end.”
He said, writing with the steel pen “Testament” on the ground, swiftly wrapping the Divine Idol in a ball of Stone, intending to later show it to Charlotte or Baobao of this world.
He then approached Scott, watching him point the camera towards the sky, and finally pressed the key to end the recording.
“Do you now understand why you’re stuck in a cycle here?”
Lu Ban asked.
Scott looked a bit confused as he turned to face Lu Ban.
“You turned the polluted Miskatonic into a movie, a videotape, and transformed yourself into a character within the film; James, Wes, Valeria, Talia, these are all parts of you, Scott,”
he pointed at the box of videotapes in Scott’s arms.
“Now that the source of the pollution has been found, there’s no need to continue, Scott. Every story should have an ending.”
“And the ending of this story is that you saved the city, Chosen by the Gods.”
