I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 789 - 789 788. Another one was born

Chapter 789: 788. Another one was born Chapter 789: 788. Another one was born Before firing the gun, the black tears streaming from the statue of the Virgin Mary grew more and more abundant, becoming thicker and thicker.

The black tears that fell to the ground did not spread out like water but writhed as if they had their own life and will, gradually converging to form the likeness of a tiny monster.

At the same time, soft murmurs began to echo in Lu Ban’s ears.

These whispers were not human languages but some sort of ancient sound that did not dissipate with the changes in human civilization. It was a sound etched into the genes of all living beings, capable of invoking the most primal fears.

Lu Ban felt as though he was plunged into darkness, where he saw many people lying around him.

The mummified Cui Siter looked withered, his desiccated throat emitting a voice as his hand reached out towards Lu Ban, uttering whimpering words.

“Why didn’t you stop me, why didn’t you save me…”

With her body rotting away, flesh blurred and an eye falling from her socket, Red Leaf wearing boots and a kimono had a ferocious expression, with thick black fog swirling around her.

“You could have changed all this, you could have saved everyone…”

Amber, her flesh burned away and her body appearing even more petite, gazed hollowly at Lu Ban, her voice tinged with a burning whisper.

“You killed me, you killed me, why, why, when I trusted you so much, you led me to the altar with your own hands…”

There were many more, the deaths experienced during missions, and those spirits revolved around Lu Ban, with their interwoven voices accusingly, trying to torment Lu Ban’s will.

All the sins, regrets, and pains now took material form, replaying endlessly before Lu Ban’s eyes.

At the same time, another voice penetrated Lu Ban’s mind.

It too, was from the language of the ancient Ancient Overlords, messy and complex, yet striking the heart.

“Embrace the darkness, feel the joy of breeding, reap the harvest!”

These words praised the darkness, tempting Lu Ban to fall into it, to let his body mutate, grow, and thrive.

Soon, Lu Ban’s abdomen began to swell as if he were pregnant with a full-term child.

He felt a pang of pain in his abdomen, accompanied by a strong feeling of nausea, and soon there was a rising and falling in Lu Ban’s abdomen.

It was as if some creature was gestating within, the belly rolling into uneven mounds, the sensation of something tearing free growing ever more intense.

Scott witnessed this scene and covered his mouth in shock. Never before in his cycles of recursions had he seen such a sight, yet, despite this, Scott’s hand was still holding the camera, recording everything as it happened.

Lu Ban bent slightly forward and then, with the greatest force, arched his back as if to break his spine.

Crack—

There was the sound of breaking bones, and Scott watched Lu Ban intently.

Squish—

Something burst from within Lu Ban’s abdomen with a popping sound, followed by a chilling tearing noise.

The fetus within burst through Lu Ban’s stomach and came into this world.

Black blood splattered onto the statue of the Virgin Mary, staining the hem of her gown and dirtying it, while the thing from Lu Ban’s stomach extended a hand, trying to grasp something.

“Director Lu Ban!”

Scott cried out in shock, just when he thought Lu Ban was powerless to turn the situation around and about to be killed by that sinister Divine Idol, he suddenly realized that what was born from Lu Ban’s belly was a human being.

And this person, though covered in thick, black blood, did not appear twisted. After crawling out of Lu Ban’s belly, he slowly got up.

As for Lu Ban, his eyes had rolled back and he was gradually dissolving into a puddle of flesh.

Scott saw that the person born from Lu Ban’s belly was still Lu Ban.

“Born again.”

Lu Ban touched his own stomach to make sure there wasn’t another little Lu Ban inside.

The ground’s flesh began to gather and return to Lu Ban’s body.

“Just delirium is enough to cause Mutation, should one say befitting of a Divine Being of the same rank as Charlotte’s true form?”

Lu Ban whispered. He raised his hand and materialized a silver revolver “Testament” in his palm, decisively shooting at the weeping Virgin Mary’s Divine Idol.

When the ethereal Speech Bullet hit the idol, it shattered with a roar.

Unexpectedly, underneath the gray-white Stone, was black flesh and blood.

That flesh was even wriggling, as if it were a living creature.

Like those monsters petrified on Jiangcheng Mountain due to their masters being sealed, the Saintess stood there. The wriggling flesh spilled out, seemingly in search of a new host.

“It seems this is the reason for the city’s entrapment in a cycle of rebirth.”

Without hesitation, Lu Ban dealt those pieces of flesh a swift end.

The delirium by his ear drastically decreased, but there were still whispers like wind brushing past his ears, coming from all directions.

Every Divine Idol in this city seemed to be a source for creating the followers of the Evil God.

But Lu Ban had no intention of personally destroying all the idols; instead, he posted a task in “Morning Star”. Soon, explosions began to resonate throughout Miskatonic, one after the other, incessant and unending.

Lu Ban saw that players on the streets were wielding various objects and rampaging, looting, and burning everywhere. Hiding in their homes, the residents didn’t know what to do, while one church after another had been smashed open by a Hammer, its believers and players brawling inside. The idols were engulfed in flames, and the black tears continuously vaporized into mist amid the fierce fires.

Since the initial task Lu Ban gave to the players was exploration and because this place was indeed a bit odd, the players’ progress was slow.

However, the moment Lu Ban changed the task to destroying the idols in the churches and dealing with the believers, the nature of the game changed.

Many a player would get their blood pressure soaring during puzzle-solving, and feel an urge to throw their controllers in frustration, but once a boss’s health bar was revealed, it no longer had any say in its fate.

And players are the most chaotic beings, indifferent to consequences or whether it’s an NPC. As long as they have weapons in their hands and the opponent has a health bar, it’s hard to resist poking it.

One could say that Lu Ban had now lifted the final restraint on the players, so these beings that feared not death naturally began to stir some excitement in this world.

Scott followed behind Lu Ban with his camera recording everything.

He had not expected to witness such a scene one day.

Those terrifying, irresistible monsters were actually being defeated by a group of humans.

And Lu Ban, leading at the forefront, arrived at the campus square of Miskatonic University, where a towering Divine Idol stood.

With just a glance, Lu Ban understood that this was the source of Miskatonic’s Mutation.
