Chapter 788: 787. The Way to the Ending_1 Chapter 788: 787. The Way to the Ending_1 “The ending?”

Scott didn’t understand. Next, those monsters would devour every living thing here, and in the end, the whole of Miskatonic would plunge into eternal darkness amidst the frenzied prayers, all trees, buildings, even the stones would start to wriggle, multiply, giving birth to various monsters that defy ethics.

For Scott, that was the ending.

No matter how hard he struggled, no matter how he fought, there was no salvation to be had here.

He had actually given up long ago, just like the friends nearby, enjoying the last days of a meager life, and then repeating it all over again.

Until he saw Lu Ban’s arrival.

For Scott, who had already fallen into reincarnation, any change was like that lifesaving straw, which he tried to grasp, but in the end, it was all in vain.

Scott had encountered several people who had stumbled in here, and he would tell them about the weird and terrifying nature of this place, gain their trust, and try to break through with them.

But in the end, it would only plunge these people into despair, and then, when reincarnation descended once again, Scott watched in horror as the people who had fought alongside him in the previous cycle had become puppets with eerie smiles on their faces, chanting strange prayers and slicing open their own bellies.

With Lu Ban’s arrival, Scott initially thought it might be another failure, that this director would become a puppet just like the others before him.

Therefore, Scott, who had abandoned hope, remained in a daze as before and did not seek help from Lu Ban, nor did he tell him the truth.

But now, it seems there really is something different.

“I’ve said it before, haven’t I? Keep the camera rolling, now isn’t the movie just at a turning point?”

Lu Ban asked in return.

“The protagonist’s companions have all died due to various accidents and incidents. Now that he knows the truth, he decides, along with the only other survivor, to leave something behind for this world. How about that plot?”

He said.

Hearing Lu Ban’s words, Scott felt confused and also timid.

He dared not harbor hope or expectations anymore.

The more he harbored expectations, the more hope he held, the greater despair reality would bring him.

But Lu Ban did not seem to fear those monsters.

Lu Ban didn’t head towards the lawn but instead picked up the box of videotapes from the player and walked towards the street.

There was no one on the streets.

Only the dim streetlights illuminated the road.

The camera lens captured the scene, and you could see countless monsters perched on the walls, streets, and rooftops.

These monsters, like trees that had grown out, swayed the tentacle-like branches on their bodies, wanting to devour all living things.

People inside houses just looked out the window woodenly, hiding in their rooms to avoid these monsters, but this was not a long-term solution. As long as these monsters kept growing, the city would ultimately succumb to death.

However, Lu Ban ignored those ghastly and terrifying monsters and walked straight ahead, heading for the church.

Scott looked around and noticed some passersby in the alleyways. They were dressed in thin clothes, just like Zhou Changqing who had been with them until recently, but they soon screamed and were ravaged and devoured by invisible monsters.

Lu Ban was indifferent; he had arrived at the church’s doorway.

The church doors were shut tight.

From inside came the sound of chanting prayers, and the stained glass depicted a blasphemous image of a sinister Saintess giving birth to an ugly monster.

Lu Ban knocked on the door, heard footsteps approaching, and the other party asked a question.

“Who is it?”

“Can you open the door?”

Lu Ban, holding the camera in his left hand, inquired.

“Are you a foreigner?”

The other party asked again.

“Yes.”

Lu Ban nodded.

“Outsider, leave, leave, leave.”

The other party emphasized this three times, showing considerable hostility.

“Alright.”

Lu Ban responded, and immediately, a silver revolver, “Testament,” materialized in his hand.

Bang—

The next moment, the wooden door flew into the church at a very high speed. Scott thought he heard the sound of bones breaking. He saw a person draped in a black robe trapped under it, unmoving, as if they had already lost their breath.

Inside the church, Scott saw that a sacrifice ritual was being conducted. A woman lay at the center of the stone altar, voluntarily offering her own heart and blood.

The Saintess idol’s eyes shed black tears, and within her embrace, a cluster of black tentacles was absorbing the woman’s blood, slowly taking shape.

The cultists all turned their heads in unison toward the entrance, their faces still bearing eerie smiles.

They glanced down at the companion crushed by the door panel and suddenly began to stir.

All of the cultists surged towards Lu Ban, pulling out various types of knives from their sleeves as they ran silently towards the entrance.

“Here, catch.”

Lu Ban handed the camera to Scott and then materialized a silver pen, “Testament,” in his right hand, casually writing words on the door panel.

“[Able to fire powerful bullets, inexhaustible and never-ending.]”

Then, he lifted the door panel.

Ratatat—

In a way incomprehensible to humans, the door panel burst forth with flying wood splinters, targeting the oncoming cultists. Struck individuals only managed two more steps before collapsing on the ground, unable to move.

In the holy church, Lu Ban had dealt with all the standing cultists in less than two minutes.

He didn’t even leave a single survivor to interrogate.

Carefully stepping around the corpses, Lu Ban approached the divine idol.

The person presiding over the ritual had passed away; Lu Ban bent down, placing his hand on the head, and numerous words popped up.

“[Zealous believer, willing even to give up their own life.]”

“[Follower of a great existence, knowledgeable in various faith-related lore, even possessing a measure of supernatural power.]”

“[Died a gruesome death, please do not take pictures.]”

“To have acquired supernatural abilities, the pollution must be significant,” Lu Ban thought, then looked up at the monster that was frantically absorbing the blood of the cultists on-site. Without any hesitation, he fired a “Speech Bullet” containing the gibberish of a great existence into its still forming body.

Bang—

The body twisted, swelled, and then stopped abruptly, followed by an explosion. The monster’s blood and flesh soiled the stained glass, splattering throughout the church.

“Did you get all that on film?”

Lu Ban turned back, asking Scott.

The young man seemed a bit slow to react, as Lu Ban’s actions were reminiscent of a B-movie’s vengeful protagonist, ruthless and decisive, a far cry from the humble film director he was before.

“…Yeah, got it,” Scott replied.

“Good, now, it’s time to witness the conclusion,” Lu Ban said as he raised the silver revolver in his hand, aiming at the Saintess idol that wept black tears.
