Chapter 782: 781. The Starry Sky is the Abyss_1 Chapter 782: 781. The Starry Sky is the Abyss_1 Zhou Changqing first saw a pair of hooves.

The hooves looked like those of a goat, but the legs were extremely thick; the camera moved up to reveal a body composed of slime-like accumulated mud, with a mouth on the body that had frightening, sharp teeth, and above that, numerous tendrils like bifurcated branches.

This creature was like a tree capable of movement, trembling slightly, and it seemed not to have noticed that Zhou Changqing had captured it on film, simply standing there.

Zhou Changqing didn’t know where its eyes were or if it had noticed him. The moment he saw the creature, he felt his brain boiling, as if someone had poured scalding water over his head, and he couldn’t think.

“What’s wrong with you?”

Valeria looked back, saw Zhou Changqing standing rigidly in place, and poked him with her finger.

Only then did Zhou Changqing come back to his senses. He suppressed the feeling of discomfort and the urge to vomit, and pressed on Valeria’s shoulder.

“We have to get out of here as soon as possible, there’s something wrong with this place,” he said, scanning the entrance with his camera.

The next scene made him feel a wave of regret.

Because outside the police station, there were all these monsters.

They were gathered like ants that had smelled ice cream fallen on the ground, piled up outside the police station, with several of them already having entered the building.

Bang—

The glass door made a loud noise and then shattered explosively. Through the camera, it could be seen that a monster had collided with the door, its body cut by the glass, covered in wounds, but without any blood, making it even more terrifying.

“What happened?”

Valeria hadn’t seen those creatures; she stared at the broken door, completely baffled.

“Follow me.”

Zhou Changqing checked the inside of the room with his camera and saw that the corridor was free of monsters. Thinking that the police station had more than one exit, he pulled Valeria and headed into the interior of the station.

Upon reaching the corridor, Zhou Changqing looked back to film the condition of the hall, just in time to see a black tree-like monster grab a policewoman who was hiding behind the front desk. The tendrils probed into her body, and in an instant, tore the policewoman to pieces, with her blood and flesh invisible as they splattered against the walls and the floor—only the camera could see it.

Zhou Changqing finally understood what Lu Ban meant when he said not to stop filming.

These monsters could only be captured by the camera.

Zhou Changqing speculated that, maybe before on the streets, such monsters were everywhere, but they were completely unaware.

And the people in this city knew about it, which is why they stayed indoors after nightfall.

He filmed ahead with his camera, and the brightly lit corridor now seemed incredibly sinister, because Zhou Changqing saw blood-soaked handprints all over the walls, revealing the torture and pain the victims had suffered.

The once-bright corridor, beneath the camera, turned bloody and gloomy.

Valeria didn’t know what was happening; she just felt an oppressive aura, which also spread over Zhou Changqing, making her involuntarily shut her mouth and say no more.

Zhou Changqing glanced at the rooms, none of which were closed. He quickly found an office that looked like it had been through a battle, with cabinets and tables overturned and documents scattered all over the floor.

However, Zhou Changqing’s goal wasn’t to investigate what happened there, but the guns on the floor.

He picked up the shotgun that had perhaps been left by a policeman fighting against the monsters and checked the ammunition.

Zhou Changqing had been to Africa for aid construction in the past. There it was not as safe as in his home country. Bandits and armed groups would often harass them—those involved in construction—so he had also learned to use firearms. Although he never actually had to use his gun against another person before returning to his country, he at least had a license for it.

He picked up the cartridge, slipped it into his pocket, and then heard a collision.

Peeking outside, Zhou Changqing’s camera caught that the monsters were squeezing into the corridor.

“What’s happening?”

Valeria was confused as she watched Zhou Changqing pick up the gun; she felt like the situation had become very serious.

The empty police station was already frightening enough, and now the sounds coming from outside, like something viscous and thick rubbing against smooth walls, were impossible to ignore.

But when Valeria looked outside, she could only see an empty hallway.

“These monsters can only be seen through the camera, I advise you it’s better not to look.”

Zhou Changqing had been exposed to the magic of the Night Country, and he knew very well that in such situations, knowledge was Pollution, the perpetually ignorant were perpetually blessed; the more one knew, the more unfortunate one would be.

Someone like himself would already feel intense discomfort just by seeing the images on the camera, and for someone like Valeria, he feared she might fall into madness right on the spot.

However, even so, Valeria seemed to be in a somewhat strange mood.

“Monsters?”

She inquired.

“Here, do you know how to use this? Open the safety here, then pull the trigger, don’t point the muzzle at people.”

Zhou Changqing briefly instructed and handed a police handgun to Valeria.

“I estimate that the city is probably overrun by monsters now, they roam the streets and are very dangerous.”

After explaining a bit more, Zhou Changqing took the camera and, together with Valeria, rushed out of the room.

As he sprinted along, he used the camera to scope out the path ahead.

Zhou Changqing saw at the end of the hallway, a door was slightly ajar, seemingly leading out to the police station’s parking lot.

He hastened his steps, unaware of the reason behind it, Valeria became anxious as well.

Just as Zhou Changqing reached the end of the hallway and pushed the door open,

The cars in the parking lot sat quietly, emitting no sound whatsoever.

Lifting the camera’s lens, Zhou Changqing saw that countless monsters were lurking in the parking lot, as if they had been there for ages, with numerous tentacles spreading out.

Zhou Changqing couldn’t help but look up at the starry sky, where countless dazzling lights were visibly rotating and contracting at a speed detectable to the naked eye, forming a giant vortex that seemed to be about to absorb Zhou Changqing’s consciousness.

That wasn’t the starry sky, Zhou Changqing immediately sobered up.

It was the Abyss.

He lifted the gun barrel, ready to break through this place.

But in an instant, Zhou Changqing’s world spun around.

He saw himself and Valeria being pulled up by an invisible force, followed by immense pain.

Zhou Changqing felt a bit of pain in his buttocks, but that quickly subsided.

Because he saw his own buttocks flying in the sky.

As his consciousness plunged into oblivion, he saw Valeria’s body become a blur of flesh and blood, disappearing into thin air.

“Is she alright?”

Scott glanced in the direction where Valeria and Zhou Changqing had left while he packed up the barbecue grill.

“Don’t worry, she and I have argued countless times. She’ll be back in a bit, crying and begging for my forgiveness.”

James answered as if he knew it all by heart and didn’t pay it much mind. He finished the beer in his hand, threw the can into the trash, and belched.

He cast a glance at the street corner and startlingly noticed a figure approaching from there.

When the streetlight illuminated the person’s face, James realized it was his girlfriend, Valeria, the same one who had left earlier.
