I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 765 - 765 764. Miskatonic_1
Chapter 765: 764. Miskatonic_1 Chapter 765: 764. Miskatonic_1 Lu Ban first went online to search for information about Miskatonic.
There wasn’t much about the city on the internet, aside from film festival-related reports, just a handful of travel blogs.
Located in Massachusetts, this city initially thrived on agriculture, but as historical sites nearby were excavated, agricultural development was somewhat restricted, and the whole city gradually fell into stagnation.
Miskatonic University was the only university there, established at the end of the 17th century, making it an institution with a long history. Its more excellent programs included archaeology, history, psychology, etc. Considering the city’s decline and the dwindling number of applicants, the university came up with the idea of hosting a film festival to attract visitors.
The Miskatonic Film Festival mainly focused on fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, and horror film selections. After some time of cultivation and development, it had become a relatively authoritative festival in its field and did indeed manage to somewhat revive the increasingly declining Miskatonic.
Of course, due to the themes involved in this film festival, there was also an endless stream of legends about Miskatonic.
Some say that Miskatonic University’s library contains many forbidden books, some of which could even summon the dead, control souls, or even bring people back to life.
In the university, mummy exhibits brought back from Egypt would awaken on certain nights, dominating every living creature they encountered.
There lived residents with strange behaviors in the towns outside Miskatonic. On certain days, they would turn into monsters and sacrifice tourists to the gods they worshipped.
There was also a rumor that professors from Miskatonic University once organized an expedition to Antarctica which ended in an accident, and its fate remains unknown.
Lu Ban couldn’t verify the authenticity of these rumors, but since Feng Yu had sent a message, this place must be somehow related to the pollution of the Foreign Domain.
Lu Ban reached out to confirm with Feng Yu, but she didn’t respond again.
“Could this message not be from Feng Yu?”
He was puzzled and called Feng Yu.
No one answered.
Very strange.
Clearly, the message was not sent by Feng Yu herself. Either her account or her phone was no longer in her possession.
The purpose of whoever had it was quite intriguing.
He didn’t hide Feng Yu’s loss of communication and didn’t mind that Lu Ban could guess—is it that they expected Lu Ban would definitely go to Feng Yu’s aid?
Although it was for certain that Lu Ban would go to check the situation.
He then gathered some more information about Miskatonic and bought a plane ticket directly to Massachusetts.
In China, Massachusetts is also called “Massachusetts,” home to famous institutions like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard, but Miskatonic was not among those renowned places. It had a relatively high elevation, with prominent coastal erosion landscapes, and by the look of the scenery alone, belonged to the barren and desolate kind.
Even so, Miskatonic had no airport of its own, and coming from neighboring Rhode Island’s Providence was quicker.
When Lu Ban arrived at Green Airport near Providence late at night, it was already deep into the night. He slept at a hotel near the airport, and the next day, he prepared to find a way to Miskatonic.
In the hotel lobby, while Lu Ban was about to check out, he saw several young people making a ruckus up front.
There were five of them—two women and three men—all looking like college students, chatting and handling their check-out at the same time.
“The film I’m most looking forward to this time is “The Days to Come”; I really like the director’s style.”
“Don’t get too wrapped up in watching films, remember to finish our project.”
“The beds in this hotel are too hard, they hurt my back.”
“First, let’s refuel after this, why on earth is the gas so expensive.”
As they talked back and forth, Lu Ban quietly listened from behind and quickly realized that their destination was also Miskatonic.
It seemed like a college field trip, something akin to an educational tour.
Hearing this, Lu Ban had no choice but to take advantage of the situation.
He cleared his throat and leaned in.
“Are you guys going to the Miskatonic Film Festival?”
Although Lu Ban had long since returned his English proficiency to his teacher, with “Testament,” mastering a language was just a matter of phrases.
“Yeah… huh?”
The tallest boy had casually replied, but upon noticing Lu Ban, he immediately widened his eyes.
“Are you, Director Lu Ban?”
He recognized Lu Ban immediately and was dumbfounded.
“What Lu Ban?”
The blonde girl next to him hadn’t caught on yet and repeated the name.
“It’s Lu Ban, the director of ‘Magic Tide’ Lu Ban!”
Another person recognized Lu Ban and immediately covered their mouth.
“Holy shit, is this for real? I haven’t even done my makeup properly. Wait, let me look in the mirror.”
The blonde girl immediately snapped to her senses and hurriedly hid behind the tall man.
“Director Lu Ban, are you also here to attend the Miskatonic Film Festival?”
A bespectacled boy asked, wearing a jacket and appearing rather bookish.
“That’s right, the festival asked me to be a judge, but I don’t know if I got something wrong; they didn’t arrange for anyone to meet me.”
Lu Ban blurted out a bunch of nonsense.
“Oh, please don’t mind, people from Miskatonic are just that peculiar. They aren’t too welcoming to outsiders, and it’s pretty hard to communicate with them, right, Scott?”
The bespectacled boy said, then patted the dark-skinned boy who looked like a volleyball player and had just finished with the procedures.
“Scott is from Miskatonic. We study in Boston and are just about to drive to the film festival.”
The boy named Scott merely nodded at Lu Ban, seemingly indifferent to Lu Ban’s identity.
“That’s perfect. Do you have room in your car?”
Lu Ban spoke bluntly. They say foreigners are straightforward, so he decided to follow suit without beating around the bush.
“Of course, James rented a motorhome, as long as Director Lu Ban doesn’t mind sharing the ride and sleeping with us on the road for a day or two.”
The last girl spoke; her hair was a shade of brown and she seemed less flamboyant, but her speech was tinged with teasing.
“That’s wonderful.”
Lu Ban quickly became one with the group.
These five people were film and television majors from a university in Boston. They had two purposes for going to the Miskatonic Film Festival. The first was to experience the festival atmosphere as part of their off-campus practice, and the second was to shoot a film.
They wanted to film a movie about the festival and compete in the Collegiate Film Festival the following year. If they could get a nomination of some sort, they’d hit the jackpot.
“A movie about the film festival?”
Lu Ban felt it sounded familiar.
