Chapter 702: 701. Then there is only one answer_1 Chapter 702: 701. Then there is only one answer_1 Lu Ban needed help.
This help was not from those numb and silent villagers, nor was it from the utterly noncombatant knights, and it certainly wasn’t from the nobles who indulged in entertainment and only knew the pleasures of wine and carnality.
Not even from those court mages.
What Lu Ban needed were professionals with initiative, who could come together quickly, propose plans, and execute them.
He needed builders and warriors who were not afraid of sacrifice, who were diligent and brave, and who constantly strove to be stronger.
With that thought, Lu Ban quickly had an idea.
If there were anyone who could rapidly adapt to an environment different from reality, who could change things in the shortest time, start building, develop, and who did not fear failure and death, then there was only one answer.
Lu Ban told the knights to wait right there and immediately ran to the Baron’s house.
As he ran, Lu Ban also called out.
“I’ve got it, I’ve got it.”
Hearing Lu Ban’s words, Shia and Cui Siter came out, followed by Baron Gerro.
Baron Gerro’s face changed dramatically when he saw the red knight; he hid behind Shia, seemingly very afraid of the knight.
“What’s going on?”
Shia looked at the crawling red knight, then at Lu Ban, clueless about what he might have done.
“I’ve figured out how to save Night Country with this bunch of bugs.”
Lu Ban said.
“Bugs?”
Baron Gerro was puzzled.
“I mean these kind and lovely villagers, and these fully armed knights.”
Lu Ban corrected himself.
“Did you find something?”
Cui Siter asked, already accustomed to Lu Ban’s odd and brilliant ideas.
“Baron, is there a swamp nearby, or something like a pond?”
Lu Ban queried.
“Swamp? Pond?”
Baron Gerro clearly didn’t grasp what Lu Ban was after.
“…Well, if you’re talking about a quagmire, there is one. It’s in the forest just outside the fields. Since someone accidentally fell into it before, signs were later put up.”
After some thought, he pointed towards the distant fields.
“Oh, take me to see it.”
Lu Ban said and glanced again at the red knight named Brown.
“You, come with us too.”
Upon hearing this, Brown immediately sprang to his feet, eagerly following behind Lu Ban as if it were an honor to breathe the same air that Lu Ban had.
Baron Gerro walked ahead, with Lu Ban and others following. The people busy in the fields did not look up but continued to be immersed in their lives.
There was no curiosity in the eyes of these people.
Although in a foreign domain, curiosity often isn’t a good thing, for life, curiosity signifies anticipation, it signifies hope. To lose curiosity is to merely stack up time for the rest of one’s life.
Passing the fence, Baron Gerro entered the Black Forest.
The trees here were twisted by pollution, their shapes grotesque and odd, like vicious demons that seemed as though they might come to life at any moment and seize passersby, draining them dry.
About fifteen minutes later, when everything around had quieted down as if they had entered the abyss of endless darkness, Lu Ban saw a glint of sunlight.
The faint light seeped through the tree gaps, revealing that the trees ahead became sparser. In the middle was a mire.
At first glance, this appeared to be a common mud pit formed by the rain or loose soil, but as Lu Ban approached, he detected a stench of decay. Upon closer inspection, he could make out the bodies of some unidentifiable tiny creatures in the mud.
It seemed they had fallen in, unable to escape, and ultimately perished here, becoming nutrients.
Lu Ban cautiously poked the water in the mud pit with his finger.
Cold, viscous, like the body fluid of some creature.
He withdrew his finger and tasted it.
“?”
Baron Gerro was taken aback by Lu Ban’s actions.
Was this water drinkable?
“It doesn’t taste good.”
Lu Ban concluded, then turned around.
The next moment, the previously still mud pit suddenly rippled.
Several long tentacles stretched out from the murky mud, causing Baron Gerro to hastily retreat with disordered steps, while Knight Brown had already collapsed onto the ground, his legs giving out, unable to move.
However, those tentacles did not touch Lu Ban before they were blocked by some invisible force. Accompanied by faint explosion sounds, the tentacles burst into nothingness.
Mistral’s Void Burst Spell.
Shia extended her hand forward, and then the creature in the water was pulled out of the mud as if dragged by something forcefully.
“If I were you, I would suggest you close your eyes.”
Cui Siter drew his revolver from its holster and, while crouching, spoke to an utterly flabbergasted Baron Gerro.
“Ah?”
The next instant, the creature fully revealed itself.
It was a ball of flesh, composed of various animals’ heads, including human ones.
Every face showed extreme pain and distortion, and from the gaps between those heads, colorful fur turned into tentacles, wildly drilling around. Those hairs moved quickly, one of them lunging towards the surrounding trees and carving a ragged, large hole.
“Ah woo woo…”
The creature emitted a whining sound, like a child crying. Hearing the sound, Baron Gerro, who was covering his eyes, felt a wave of panic inside him, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Meanwhile, the red-clad Knight Brown had completely fainted.
Shia, composed, threw a punch at the creature with her other hand.
A slow yet powerful force wafted through the air, and soon, a dent appeared in the flesh ball, which then exploded violently. Heads, hair, and various limbs scattered, stopped by an invisible barrier.
“It seems like this creature was lurking in the mud pit. What did you want with it?”
Shia dusted off her hands, curiously asking.
Stone, watching Shia’s actions, felt a sense of admiration and embarrassment, grateful that Shia had been kind and had not gone all out when he had considered her an opponent in his younger days.
“Not really, I was just looking for a bit of an atmosphere.”
Lu Ban squatted down by the mud pit once again, and a multitude of text information appeared. He verified it once, then began to write.
Unlike before, Lu Ban wrote for a long time, repeatedly pondering and revising, until half an hour later, when the fainted Red Knight Brown woke up only to faint again at the sight of the flesh and blood of the creature’s corpse, Lu Ban finally stood up and dusted off his hands.
“What did you do?”
Shia vaguely sensed some change in the mud pit, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
“We’re now in need of manpower, some highly motivated labor.”
Lu Ban replied, standing up.
“And I just happen to know some people like that. In my world, they’re called ‘players’.”
