I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 677 - 677 Survive until the end of Soul Summoning Night 01_1

Chapter 677: Survive until the end of Soul Summoning Night 0/1_1 Chapter 677: Survive until the end of Soul Summoning Night 0/1_1 After finishing what could possibly be the beef noodle soup with pickled cabbage made by stepping from an old auntie, Zheng Li wiped the corner of his mouth.

“Damn, eating instant noodles in the middle of the night, you’re truly avoiding human affairs at this point!”

A roommate who had just finished a round of gaming smelled the scent and condemned Zheng Li.

“If you’re not convinced, you eat it too.”

Zheng Li tidied up the trash and hurried back to his bed to lie down, put on his helmet, and once again entered that sea of stars.

Soon, the gate to “The Night of Summoning Souls” appeared before him.

Zheng Li carefully observed the door, tactile and real, and emitting an eerie scent.

At this thought, Zheng Li suddenly felt a bit startled.

It wasn’t that he heard voices calling his name or felt someone tapping his shoulder or anything like that.

He just remembered some things.

Lu Ban, after all, was a director who made his name in horror movies.

The horror films he usually made were scary enough with just the visuals and sounds, but now, turning those films into virtual reality works, letting one explore within the movie themselves…

“Damn, this is more than just a haunted house, it’s literally The Conjuring!”

Zheng Li remarked.

He studied forensic science; he had seen bodies before, but Lu Ban’s movies were still scary. Zheng Li knew bodies didn’t talk, but in Lu Ban’s films, those terrifying entities weren’t just corpses!

Those bugs, those squirming, twisting monsters, those ghastly human figures pale as statues, sent shivers down one’s spine, a glance would drive a person to lose their sanity, plunging into madness.

If he could explain it with science, Zheng Li wouldn’t be afraid, but these were all beyond common sense, incomprehensible, and they had an indelible impact on him.

If one were to say, those with leftover feudal superstitious ideas who have not received an education feel “awe” towards these entities, then Zheng Li, who had completed his education and understood science well, felt “indescribable” towards these entities.

These things were not idealistic, imaginary entities, nor explained and analyzed by scientific theories; to Zheng Li, they were completely indescribable, unable to be articulated.

But curiosity overshadowed fear.

Zheng Li thought, no matter how outrageous, this was just a game in the end. If it got too much, he could just pause and quit directly. Could it actually chase him out of the helmet?

He pushed open that door.

Creak—

The sound of wood friction echoed again near his ear, Zheng Li saw light behind the door. He couldn’t see clearly what was inside, those lights were like soap bubbles, scattering and bursting endlessly.

Zheng Li moved forward, stepping into the light.

As his vision was completely filled with light, Zheng Li saw some prompts appear before his eyes.

For instance, the experience mode had now become [Common], meaning most of his physical sensations would be taken over by the helmet. He wouldn’t hear the ordinary white noise from the outside world, nor would his actions in the game world affect his real-world body.

It sounded somewhat terrifying, but Zheng Li immediately opened the settings interface.

The experience mode changed to [Light Mode], he could faintly hear his roommate cursing while playing games. This noise, usually disrupting his sleep, now brought Zheng Li a great sense of security.

He re-entered the game, and by now, the light had almost completely dissipated. Zheng Li found himself in a room.

“What is this?”

As he spoke, Zheng Li suddenly saw the mottled marks on the table twisting and turning, forming line after line of text.

[Some people are dead, but he is still alive]

Upon reading the first line, Zheng Li immediately felt a chilling sensation.

What is this writing?

What is the purpose of this game?

As he continued to read the text, it swiftly displayed some information, including the background of the mansion, his own identity as a detective, and the whole story behind it.

Zheng Li immediately realized that this was Abandoned Capital!

He had never been to Abandoned Capital Town, but he had seen photos taken by others and previous livestreams. He quickly recognized the setting, realizing that this was the world of Abandoned Capital.

Moreover, things like Taoist Crane Cry were phenomena that would only appear in Abandoned Capital.

Zheng Li suddenly felt excited.

In previous movies, he could only understand these bizarre and wonderful worlds through the screen, but now, through this game, he could actually experience every detail of this world in reality.

He reached out and touched the table surface; the smooth, waxed texture sent a shiver through him.

The air was permeated with a damp smell, like the decaying scent that wafted from the wrecked, abandoned ships just retrieved from the sea.

Zheng Li looked around and saw a strange oil painting. The creature depicted seemed like a Hunter but also more like some kind of insect or spider. Under the pitch-black night sky, it appeared even more eerie and terrifying.

He then brought up the game’s System panel to check his objectives.

[Survive until the end of Soul Summoning Night 0/1]

It was a survival game, and it appeared to be an investigative type, similar to a room escape game.

Boom—

A clap of thunder exploded, startling Zheng Li, making the hairs on his back stand on end. When he realized it was the sound of thunder, Zheng Li looked out the window to see a vast forest, with a winding path allowing for a car to descend the mountain.

The house was perched upon a cliff, and in the distance, the looming thunderclouds bathed it in ghastly lightning, spooky and ghastly.

Boom—

Another muffled peal of thunder resonated, the sound deep, as if it were in sync with Zheng Li’s heartbeat, causing a palpitation.

This was nothing like the thunder sounds in a cinema; this was a real sound that reverberated through Zheng Li’s heart, making him feel as though he was truly in a mansion awaiting a looming storm.

“Sir.”

Suddenly, another voice came unexpectedly from behind Zheng Li, causing him to instinctively jump and back up to the window.

He saw an old man with white hair standing at the door, dressed just like the butlers in the movies.

“Is this where the plot begins?”

Zheng Li mumbled to himself, but the old man seemed not to have heard. He bowed to Zheng Li, then spoke.

“They have all arrived.”

“They?”

Zheng Li was somewhat at a loss; he didn’t know who the old man was referring to, but based on the background the System had just provided, he guessed it was probably the family of the deceased.

“I need to survive until the end of Soul Summoning Night, which means I have to spend nine days here?”

“The duration of this game is rather absurd.”

“Should I start investigating this place now? Can I go out?”

“Something will probably happen on the last day; I probably came early to find a way to break through the situation. Hmm, I wonder how intelligent this NPC is—should I ask him first?”

With this in mind, Zheng Li decided to start asking questions.
