Chapter 666: 665. Postmodern Art Exhibition_1 Chapter 666: 665. Postmodern Art Exhibition_1 Jiangcheng Art Exhibition Center.
Located on the outskirts of Jiangcheng City, this convention center had just recently been completed.
Apart from the avant-garde-styled art exhibition center, the area also housed a number of museums, creative workshops, theaters, and experience centers that were still under construction.
It was said that this used to be the site of the Jiangcheng Grand Theater, and after being purchased by Jiangcheng Industries, it was transformed into a community for promoting positive energy and creating art.
Lu Ban felt at home as soon as he arrived here.
However, the distance between here and the city district was significant. There weren’t densely populated residential areas surrounding it, but rather, large swaths of farmland. Thanks to this, the place was not overly crowded.
As Lu Ban walked, he saw some young couples, mostly girls leading the guys, and he thought that this kind of avant-garde art was probably more appealing to artistic young women.
Of course, there were also unmistakably artsy people, like the person walking in front of Lu Ban who, despite the season being somewhat hot, was wearing a cotton-padded jacket full of holes. His hair was untidy, and upon seeing his face, Lu Ban noticed it was square and his eyes held a sharp intensity.
Watching the man take a few steps to a garbage bin by the side,
suddenly, he reached out, extracting a nearly extinguished cigarette butt from the ashtray above the bin. Skilfully pinching the cigarette, he took a deep drag.
The weak ember reignited with the flow of air through the filter, like a vibrant and unending life, symbolizing the struggles of this artist; regardless of his unkempt appearance, as long as there was conviction in his heart, any place could become a stage.
Lu Ban felt inspired and he nodded respectfully to the artist.
The other person saw Lu Ban, but his gaze remained steadfast and unmoving, like a statue.
Lu Ban understood this to be a sign of the artist’s work completion.
He reached the entrance of the Art Exhibition Center.
There really weren’t many people around, sparsely scattered outside the exhibition booths. Lu Ban had his electronic ticket scanned by the ticket inspector and had just entered the exhibition center when he saw a balding man approaching him.
“Hello, I’m Cheng Junjie, the person in charge of this exhibition,”
said the man as he introduced himself and eagerly prepared to give Lu Ban a tour.
“No need, I prefer to look around on my own,”
Lu Ban felt that such artworks needed to be seen and contemplated by oneself at first, to gain the most primal impression, even if it contradicted the author’s original motive for creation. It was the kind of experience that was truly unique.
Nowadays, many people liked watching others explain movies on the internet or speed-read novels; although it saved time and enabled people to grasp the gist of a story quickly, many details of works were lost.
Therefore, Lu Ban didn’t need a guide.
After rejecting the offer for a guided tour, the first piece of art Lu Ban saw was a peculiar one.
It was a simple chair, looking as ordinary as any wooden chair one might find anywhere.
But beside the chair on the ground, there were some dirty-looking stains that resembled vomit.
Lu Ban wasn’t saying the stains were bad, but he was somewhat at a loss as to their purpose.
Visitors were allowed to sit in the art piece and ponder.
But sitting meant one would unavoidably step on those stains.
Lu Ban didn’t quite understand.
He decided to experience it himself.
As he stepped on the mushy, grubby substance and sat down on the chair, he was relieved that the material wasn’t actual filth but was made using a special method that didn’t stick to shoes.
He tried to think, but the sensation underfoot kept disrupting his thoughts.
At that moment, Lu Ban had an epiphany.
It turned out that what this piece of art was saying to everyone was that even the greatest of thoughts would be interrupted when faced with immediate pollution and perils to oneself.
He nodded, stepped down, and felt very rewarded.
Lu Ban continued to walk deeper into the exhibition.
Next, he saw an umbrella with only the frame left, a cucumber taped to the wall, and a Statue of Liberty immersed in a pot of urine.
Lu Ban came to a tank where an octopus was kept. According to the instructions beside it, visitors could stretch out their hands and let the octopus wrap around them.
Lu Ban stretched his hand into the tank.
But the octopus shyly shied away from Lu Ban’s hand, curling up in a corner, looking very frightened and trembling.
“Not everything in this world turns out as one would wish it to be.”
Lu Ban felt he had grasped something
After going around the exhibition, Lu Ban felt he had gained a lot.
Art has many forms of expression, but the greatest impact comes from those that can actually be touched and felt.
For example, many movie theaters now have 4D films, where seats can shake, and sometimes they even spray water.
There’s a limit to what mere visuals and sound effects can convey, so some movies choose not to be ordinary.
Lu Ban thought it was very much worth learning from.
He walked out of the art exhibit, bade farewell to the host of the exhibition, and planned to explore more here.
There were some escape room shops, archery ranges, and real-life CS experience halls here. Lu Ban was walking down the street when he suddenly noticed a store that caught his eye.
VR experience hall.
In Lu Ban’s understanding, VR was about wearing a headset and pretending to have a cute girl kissing, hugging, and lifting you, but when he entered the store, he found that VR had come a long way.
Although still donning headsets, players could hold sticks in their hands and complete some basic game projects with the help of special facility equipment.
Lu Ban gave it a try.
He thought it was quite good, aside from the image quality, touch, and form of the games.
At that moment, Lu Ban’s inspiration suddenly surged.
If some devices and gameplay could be developed to allow viewers to truly immerse themselves in movie scenes, could that bring an experience that surpasses what’s currently available?
Previously, Abandoned Capital Town was a similar attempt, but such real-life games required a lot of capital, and could accommodate too few tourists.
Lu Ban had previously looked into gaming consoles too; some have motion sensing features that can be used for exercising, but that’s about it.
What if, Lu Ban could develop devices that would allow people to truly immerse themselves and play inside the worlds of movies; wouldn’t that be a new form of expression?
And indeed, all-around pollution would definitely be more potent than that transmitted only through movies. Even for the sake of the people in this world, Lu Ban must find a way for everyone to bear such knowledge as soon as possible.
An idea gradually took shape in Lu Ban’s mind.
He soon returned to Jiangcheng District and also made a phone call to Li Zijian, Song Yunyan’s secretary, to inquire about VR equipment-related business projects.
Lu Ban was ready to delve into the gaming business and bring about completely immersive Pollution!
