I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 658 - 658 657.Singer_1
Chapter 658: 657.Singer_1 Chapter 658: 657.Singer_1 “Purpose?”
Lu Ban found it difficult to imagine what purpose such high-level beings could have.
They were born Divine Beings, or avatars of Divine Beings, without concerns of lifespan; even the destruction of planets and the end of the universe couldn’t affect them. The things that ordinary humans worried about and aspired to were trivial to them, and even time, to their eyes, was nothing more than a plaything in their hands.
Would such entities have any desires?
Although Lu Ban had previously encountered that dark-skinned, lean man who was indeed scheming something, attempting to release an Ancient Overlord, after Lu Ban stopped him, the man didn’t insist on continuing to break the Seal, but instead turned and left.
From Charlotte’s explanation, it seemed more like the behavior of someone seeking amusement, perhaps a trait shared by many avatars of Divine Beings in that faction.
As he thought this, Lu Ban noticed that Charlotte’s gaze upon him was somewhat strange.
“I am not the kind of person who acts just for the sake of seeking amusement,”
Charlotte seemed to see through Lu Ban’s thoughts, causing him to wonder whether the woman had put some sort of worm in his stomach while he was asleep.
“You saw the remains in the Splendid Realm, didn’t you?”
Charlotte didn’t make it difficult for Lu Ban, but instead turned her head and spoke.
“Yes.”
Lu Ban nodded.
Those remains appeared to be some sort of protective mechanism, eerie and dangerous.
“They possess certain Rules characteristics and will only act when a being with a certain degree of Pollution looks at them. The people of the Splendid Realm turned their own corpses into a protective mechanism for the Great Library, to prevent others from prying into the knowledge here,”
Charlotte spoke.
“Besides, there are many similar arrangements. Just like how Ancient Overlords cannot be killed, the Splendid Realm, though destroyed, still possesses strong power.”
“Since they set up things to protect the Library, why didn’t they just destroy those things?”
Lu Ban curiously asked. If the civilization of the Splendid Realm still existed, that would be one thing, but the civilization was already destroyed, so what use was the knowledge left behind?
“Because some among them still have obsessions.”
Charlotte murmured.
“Among many higher beings, legends of the Splendid Realm are still circulating. Some opposing beings wish to peer into the technology the Splendid Realm used to Seal the Ancient Overlords, some to free certain Ancient Overlords, and others simply want more power. In short, many beings covet the power of the Splendid Realm, and its residents realized this, as well as the inevitable destruction of their world.”
“Therefore, they turned the knowledge of the Library into bait, luring those who try to meddle with these things, like you and me. The Splendid Realm is now a trap.”
Lu Ban originally wanted to remind her that only Charlotte herself wanted to look at those things, but remembering that he had also tagged along and benefited from it, he decided not to speak up.
“The achievements of the Splendid Realm are indeed unmatched by any Foreign Domain, and even for the majority of Ancient Overlords, the Splendid Realm remains a forbidden land to this day,”
Charlotte added.
“My goal is simple, to find a way to Seal higher beings.”
She was frank.
“A higher status? Are you referring to those two who share the same status as your true form?”
Lu Ban followed up.
“No.”
Charlotte shook her head.
“I want to Seal the one who created me.”
Her words were certain, with no hint of jest.
“Wait, what kind of grudge or grievance do you have against Them?”
Lu Ban thought for a moment. Was it because Charlotte herself was a created avatar, so she harbored fear toward her true self, fearing that one day her playful true self would erase and absorb her back, which led her to decide to raise the banner of rebellion and overthrow from below?
“There’s no grudge, no grievance. I just want to see if it can be done.”
Charlotte said nonchalantly.
Lu Ban recalled the words Charlotte had spoken hundreds of words ago.
——”I’m not the kind of person who acts just for fun.”
Indeed, a woman’s mouth, a liar’s ghost.
The prettier the woman, the more deceptive she is, not a single truthful word.
“Do you have any clues then?”
Lu Ban asked, figuring that Charlotte must have gained something after looking through the library for so long.
If she casually let slip some gains to him, then Lu Ban would be able to stand tall when confronting those great beings in the future.
“Of course, I do, but to achieve the goal, I need at least to borrow the power of an Outer God, and also to visit that supreme entity. For now, it’s somewhat premature for me.”
Charlotte answered without any hint of concealment.
Her explanation was as simple as how to put an elephant into a fridge: just open the fridge, put the elephant in, and close the door.
“That’s true.”
Lu Ban could only agree.
“Alright, I have had my fun too. Next time you come to the Abandoned Capital, you can find me.”
Charlotte took out a warm business card from the lapel of her cheongsam and handed it to Lu Ban.
Lu Ban saw the name, Charlotte, and address, Abandoned Capital Grand Theatre written on the business card.
“So your real name is this?”
Lu Ban always felt that this name and address seemed familiar. He thought for a moment; it was probably from some mission he got where he had no choice but to be in this place.
“When moving among humans, one always needs an identity.”
Charlotte smiled slightly.
“Sometimes I sing there as a way to gain pleasure.”
“Singing?”
Lu Ban didn’t know whether this woman’s mention of singing was literal or had another meaning.
“Alright, you should go back now. I’ve involved you for so long, if Silence gets wind of this, she might come looking for trouble with me.”
Charlotte didn’t continue the topic of singing.
“Silence… Do you know Her?”
When Lu Ban heard this, he immediately wasn’t sleepy anymore and asked eagerly.
After all, his journey had been entangled with the Foreign Domain and Pollution entirely because of the Silent Lands; being Chosen by Silence, he felt uneasy not having any understanding of this Divine Being.
“Actually, no one doesn’t know Her.”
As if Charlotte thought of something, she suddenly curled her lips, ready to speak.
The very next moment, Lu Ban felt the surroundings blur. Whether it was the luxurious room, the enchanting woman, or the thick soup he hadn’t finished, everything moved away from him. His vision became chaotic, a kaleidoscope of black quickly enveloping everything.
Seeing Lu Ban disappear from the chair, Charlotte showed no surprise. She just tapped her finger twice and muttered to herself.
“Is this also within your calculations?”
She looked out at the gloomy sky.
