Chapter 655 - 655 654. The Origin of Pure Fire_1
Chapter 655: 654. The Origin of Pure Fire_1 Chapter 655: 654. The Origin of Pure Fire_1 As everyone knows, Pure Fire on Harmony Island is used to annihilate filth; those twisted, ugly monsters can’t be killed by normal means and will continuously erode their surroundings, causing permanent pollution.
Therefore, the Chief Priestess of the Great Shrine of Harmony Island initially sacrificed herself, transforming into a gigantic Divine Sakura, and established a mechanism for a Chief Priestess to control the Pure Fire, using these eternally burning flames to eradicate the filth.
Of course, Pure Fire was, in essence, a stronger form of pollution; using it was merely drinking poison to quench one’s thirst, postponing the time of Doomsday’s arrival.
Lu Ban was curious about how exactly Pure Fire was constructed and how the Splendid Realm controlled it.
The Pure Fire he exchanged from the Silent Department Store was contained in a bottle that clearly was not affected by the Pure Fire. From Lu Ban’s current observations, the Splendid Realm also didn’t seem to have been burnt or corroded by Pure Fire; after billions of years, if the Splendid Realm didn’t have a means to control that thing, it wouldn’t have been possible for it to still exist.
If a way to control Pure Fire could be found, not to say more, at the very least, Harmony Island should be saveable.
The walls around him emitted light, and Lu Ban quickly realized he was in midair.
He knew this was the effect of knowledge flooding his brain.
Through research of the previous rooms, Lu Ban had roughly figured out how this place was used, especially those records that contained the beginning and end of the entire civilization of the Foreign Domain—it was not as simple as just watching from afar.
At the will of Lu Ban, the ground rapidly approached him, and in the blink of an eye, he was standing on the surface.
This was a desolate land, the ground cracked from lack of water, a temperature unbearable to ordinary people covered the surface, and the air was filled with a choking, unpleasant odor, like that of Earth before life had appeared.
Only, Lu Ban saw towering structures; they were towers, standing more erect than the tallest mountains on Earth, solitary and independent, as if abandoned by the world.
With a thought, Lu Ban immediately moved to the foot of the tower.
Looking up, he saw a pale flame burning at the top of the tower.
This was not Pure Fire, but it had some differences from Pure Fire, at least in terms of pollution, Lu Ban thought these pale flames were far less polluting than Pure Fire.
He entered the tower and immediately saw a giant.
The giant was about three stories tall, with long thin arms and legs but a bloated body. He was filthy, with orange stains of blood, and was dragging a cart containing the giant’s limbs and remains.
The giant seemed to not notice Lu Ban at all, walking straight through him and out of the tower.
Inside the tower, there were many more bodies.
These bodies appeared to have been through a battle, strewn about, mostly similar to that of the giant.
Lu Ban looked up and, in an instant, was at the top of the tower.
In this place where the pale flame burnt, Lu Ban saw that the fuel was corpses.
“Our time is running short,”
a voice rang out, and Lu Ban turned around. There was a giant wearing a robe adorned with gemstones that were deeply embedded into his skin, just looking at him made one wince in pain.
The giant was quite handsome from Lu Ban’s point of view, with a melancholy gaze fixed on the pale flame.
“The Fire is about to die out, and no sign of the king’s presence is seen,”
an old giant said somberly from the other side.
The elder’s gaze was focused in the distance.
Lu Ban followed his line of sight to another tall tower.
Only, the flame on that tower burned even dimmer, weaker, as if it would extinguish at any moment.
“The fire in the northern territory is about to die out; we won’t hold out for much longer here either. Will our world truly come to an end after all the fires go out?”
the handsome giant said with worry.
“The cities to the west no longer exist, the spreading evil has devoured everything, and without the Fire, we have no way to resist those monsters,”
Listening to the two giants’ conversation, flickering fluorescent text appeared within Lu Ban’s field of vision.
These texts recorded the condition of the Foreign Domain, pouring into Lu Ban’s mind in the form of knowledge.
According to the scholars of the Splendid Realm, this Foreign Domain was called ESFD-36955, a world still in the era of agriculture. However, the Sealed Ancient Overlord had accidentally fallen into a half-awakened state. Thus, the pollution from the Ancient Overlord was leaking out, affecting the creatures on the planet. Many animals mutated and became the Clan of that great Divine Being.
These Clan members were highly aggressive and attempted to assimilate other living beings, surging like the Demonic Tide of the Night Country.
Only fire could resist the invasion of these monsters.
These flames were known as Pale Fire, which could only be sustained by the remains of the burning giants. Under the illumination of the Pale Fire, the powers of the Ancient Overlord’s Clan would be significantly weakened, and it was by the light of these flames that this Foreign Domain had managed to survive until now.
Nevertheless, even so, the world had already reached its end.
The giants did not reproduce quickly, and monsters cloaked in Pale Fire were not rendered completely powerless, weak dregs; even in their beastly forms, they remained powerful enough to cause casualties among the giants.
The burning of remains always had a limit; it was merely prolonging the destruction of the world.
Just like this tower, only less than ten giants remained alive.
Lu Ban could descend freely to any place at any time within this Foreign Domain, as if he had truly arrived in this world, reading the materials while experiencing their lives firsthand.
He adjusted the time backward to when the last clump of Pale Fire was about to be extinguished.
At the top of that tower, Lu Ban saw this handsome giant, under whom lay the corpses of countless companions.
The Pale Fire illuminated this world, the only light that remained here.
Looking across the entire planet, it was already overrun by the Ancient Overlord’s Clan, delving deep into the surface, trying to find their master. Meanwhile, in this dark world, the sole speck of light was also in peril.
The giants’ remains were burning, but this last giant already knew their civilization had perished.
Sorrow, despair, agony, and confusion surged in his heart.
Some form of pollution burst forth from his heart.
It was the murmur, heard countless times before, that came from the seduction of the Ancient Overlord.
By this time, the last giant had no other pursuits.
Apart from hatred.
Hatred swiftly took over all of his will, and even the murmurs of the Ancient Overlord couldn’t shake it.
He watched the oncoming multitude of creatures, turned around, and threw himself into the Pale Fire.
In an instant, the originally dim and fading Pale Fire suddenly turned black.
Within that pure black flame, multicolored emotions materialized.
In the blink of an eye, all of the remains ignited with the same flames.
The fire devoured the giant, devoured the monsters, devoured the planet, and even the Ancient Overlord twisted within the flames.
In the end, only a silently burning star remained, in the cold and solitary cosmos.
Lu Ban saw that, after the planet had burned for tens of thousands of years, scholars from the Splendid Realm finally concluded their observations and traveled here.
They found that these flames could burn everything, even in places where there was nothing, they could continue to consume all.
Except for some things.
Except for the skeletons left by the giants.
The Splendid Realm crafted containers out of the giants’ skeletons and carried these flames to some Foreign Domains serving as laboratories.
This is the Pure Fire.
