Chapter 654: 653. An answer_1 Chapter 654: 653. An answer_1 “So, what are you investigating these Doomsdays for?”

After following Charlotte and witnessing two Doomsdays of the Foreign Domains, Lu Ban couldn’t help but ask.

In one of the Foreign Domains, they had glimpsed the secrets of the Ancient Overlords and even discovered how to delay the revival of those great beings. They created grand sacrificial rituals, even dedicating their entire civilization to them. However, the intense survival instincts of some sacrificial offerings led to the failure of a ceremony. The Ancient Overlord awakened, and within seconds, their planet turned into cosmic dust. Those who wished to survive the sacrifice also couldn’t escape their fates.

Another Foreign Domain was at the peak of its civilization’s development. They had conquered the land, seas, and skies, and even developed sub-light speed travel technology, embarking on the path to explore the cosmos. Sadly, the revival of the Ancient Overlord brought about the sudden destruction of this civilization’s home planet. All humans who witnessed this became monsters, and afterwards, the survivors embarked on a long flight, only to die alone in the cold, silent cosmos.

The records Charlotte reviewed were almost all about Foreign Domains destroyed due to the revival of Ancient Overlords.

What Lu Ban found astonishing was that the records of the Splendid Realm about these things were incredibly detailed.

The developmental process of each Foreign Domain, the crises they encountered, and even the actions and words of every person were faithfully recorded.

Lu Ban wasn’t curious about what means the Splendid Realm used to store and observe these things. As a civilization which could contend with the Ancient Overlords, it was almost a foregone conclusion that the Splendid Realm possessed such extraordinary powers.

What he found astonishing was the role of the people of the Splendid Realm in these Foreign Domains.

Those observers, for millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions of years, observed the sealed Ancient Overlords day in and day out. If they were there to prevent the awakening of those great beings, why did they not offer help when the local civilizations struggled for survival?

They were like calm scholars, faithfully recording the origin, development, prosperity, decline, and destruction of Foreign Domain civilizations.

It was as if… they were conducting some kind of experiment.

“As you suspected.”

Charlotte’s hand gently fell. For some reason, from this subtle movement, Lu Ban felt he could perceive a trace of tiredness and disappointment.

“This is the Doomsday record of the Splendid Realm. They have sealed countless Ancient Overlords; precisely because of this, they know very well that Ancient Overlords can never be completely destroyed.”

Charlotte’s cold tone contrasted with the hopeless content of her words.

“Just learning this fact has consumed billions of years in the Splendid Realm. Afterwards, they began experimenting, observing all known Ancient Overlords. These observations were long term, so prolonged that not even time itself could fathom.”

“What do they want?”

Lu Ban pressed on.

He already had some inklings, but to turn them into a definitive answer, he needed confirmation from the likes of Charlotte, a being who truly ranked among the Ancient Overlords.

“They want an answer.”

Charlotte looked at Lu Ban, her eyes having turned crimson at some point, a color redder than blood and darker than twilight’s dim glow.

“Where is the way out for life, and what is the meaning of this world?”

Her voice was as light as an ancient ballad, but within those clear words, a kind of despairing madness spread and grew.

“You mean, they treated those Foreign Domains like laboratories.”

Lu Ban spoke in a heavy voice.

“Correct.”

Charlotte nodded, her hand raised to lightly touch the mottled and rough wall.

“They want to know what kind of effort and sacrifices a civilization must make to potentially survive the revival of the Ancient Overlords. They want to know in a world where crazy, despairing, indescribable Divine Beings exist, what the meaning of life truly is.”

Therefore, the Splendid Realm observed all known Foreign Domains.

They spent a long time, faithfully documenting everything without interfering in the development of those civilizations from the Foreign Domain.

Even in the face of destruction, worlds that could be saved with a mere thought from the Splendid Realm, they would not intervene.

They just wanted to know the answer.

“It seems they were destroyed before they could find the answer,”

Lu Ban lamented.

“No, on the contrary, they found the answer,”

Charlotte shook her head.

“Life is just a mistake.”

“Life is nothing more than a mistake in these gradually decaying, dark, cold Foreign Domains, those lives born from miniscule Pollution, running towards death for their whole existence, under the reign of those great wills. Every effort, struggle, and fight of all life is insignificant. Even the people from the Splendid Realm with powers higher than those three pillars, even an existence whose name and details I can’t even describe to seal those Ancient Overlords, cannot escape their ultimate fate.”

Hearing Charlotte’s words, Lu Ban did not respond but instead looked at the screen glowing with fluorescent light.

An observation and vigil from a Foreign Domain that lasted tens of billions of years, if in the end, only such an answer was obtained, how hopeless would that be?

Or rather, how utterly hopeless.

“They have always believed that the universe has a purpose, which is why they believe they could continue to survive, to keep controlling the world.”

Charlotte chuckled lightly, and Lu Ban couldn’t discern any emotion in it.

“But in reality, the universe never had a purpose to begin with. Those willing to ponder these questions are just small ripples occasionally stirring in a long process of silent extinction.”

“Everything is just a bizarre and extravagant dream of the great will, with no beginning, no end.”

Hearing Charlotte’s words, Lu Ban didn’t know what response to make.

“I still need to investigate some things. You stay here; look at whatever you want,”

Seeing this, Charlotte sent Lu Ban away and entered another room to review materials by herself.

Lu Ban looked at the vast library, through the windows, seeing the countless withered, eroded corpses sprawled out.

He wasn’t clear about what had happened to the Splendid Realm after learning the answer.

There were just a few more things he wanted to check.

Lu Ban exhaled and went into a room. Extending his hand, myriad lights emerged from the wall. Although Lu Ban couldn’t understand the text, luckily the information here was presented in the form of knowledge. Even if Lu Ban couldn’t comprehend it, he could still grasp the basics.

He searched through several rooms and quickly understood some of the operation here. It should be said that the more advanced the civilization, the more simple and easy the methods of operation become.

Lu Ban placed his hand on the wall and then entered a word with his will, wanting to see how this thing was made and used.

Before long, a colorful yet dark and deep Fire appeared before Lu Ban.

Pure Fire.
