I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 648 - 648 647. Roasted Lamb_1
Chapter 648: 647. Roasted Lamb_1 Chapter 648: 647. Roasted Lamb_1 Lu Ban snapped back to reality and found himself in a decaying world.
There was a dimming sunset, an infinite sky, massive ruins filled with wondrous aesthetics, and desolate land.
Among the ruins, Lu Ban saw one forming a huge arc, towering higher than any mountain he had ever seen on Earth, stretching across the sky as if embodying some absolute order and rules.
Unfortunately, half of the arc was broken off, and the whereabouts of the broken part were unknown, invisible.
What kind of civilization could have created such a sublime structure, and what kind of force could have destroyed it?
Lu Ban didn’t know.
The desolation here was somewhat different from the Wasteland’s sky filled with swirling sand.
If the Wasteland is desert, Gobi, scorching sun, and dry winds, then this place is the concrete manifestation of the concept of Doomsday.
Deserts might see blooming flowers, might feature an oasis, but here, no new life would ever be born.
Unlike Dusk City, there were no new civilizations, no new species to take their place in this world—just silence, without a hint of hope.
Those grand buildings stood like monuments to a civilization, ancient and timeless.
Lu Ban saw a broken moon beyond these structures, presumably one of the planet’s original satellites, but it was now fractured, with two more similar satellites farther away, hanging in the sky, their immense size pressing down with a terrifying weight.
Lu Ban withdrew his gaze to check his surroundings.
He was sitting on a stone that looked like it was once part of a structure, but years of erosion had made it natural again, from Stone to stone.
Running his hand over its rough surface, Lu Ban deduced that wind still existed here, caused by temperature differences or rotation, suggesting at least this planet hadn’t completely frozen in time.
At that thought, Lu Ban immediately tried to recall how he had gotten there.
The stunning woman in the cheongsam…
Lu Ban didn’t find Stone and Shia, he could only assume that those two were lucky enough to have escaped.
As he was thinking, Lu Ban spotted the woman.
She was sitting next to a stone, using a few withered branches to build a fire that shone brilliantly in the twilight, attracting one’s sanity.
Lu Ban found it quite amusing; this woman should be of an Ancient Overlord’s status, so why was she starting a fire?
Was there some survival show crew around here?
After thinking for a while, Lu Ban didn’t shout out; instead, he quietly climbed down from the stone and hid in the shadows, sneaking up on the woman.
If there were any live cameras here, Lu Ban might have said, “Let’s approach her quietly while she’s unaware; just capture her, and even her head can be eaten, tastes like chicken, crunchy and delightful.”
Just as Lu Ban was tiptoeing closer, the woman suddenly made a sound.
“What are you doing?”
Her voice echoed across the lonely land like the long-awaited rain after a drought.
Lu Ban stopped in his tracks.
He walked slowly to the woman’s side and stretched out his hands towards the fire.
The evenings here were still very cold; even without any wind, in the absence of vegetation and wildlife, the temperature of the ground would drop quickly after sunset, just like in a desert.
“Got anything to eat?”
Lu Ban couldn’t help but ask.
The woman glanced at Lu Ban as if wondering whether his mind was truly okay.
“No, see, I also haven’t eaten anything for a long time. I missed dinner, and you’ve brought me here without even telling me the time. If I get hungry, I won’t be able to walk, and that would slow you down, right?”
Lu Ban explained earnestly.
“…”
The woman fell silent for a moment. She looked at Lu Ban and then, above the bonfire, there appeared a lamb rotating on the spit.
Its skin had roasted to a slight crisp, and the fat beneath underwent the Maillard reaction, emitting a strong fragrance. The lean meat, soaked with fat, seemed tender and delicious. Just looking at the roasted lamb made Lu Ban feel his mouth watering.
After waiting for a while, Lu Ban estimated it was about time. Not minding the heat, he reached out and tore off a piece of lamb meat with the skin.
The piping hot lamb exuded an irresistible aroma, with the juice so abundant that a light squeeze was enough for it to overflow. Lu Ban bit into it, the skin was crispy, the fat was rich but not greasy, and the meat was tender. In no time at all, he had devoured the large piece of meat.
He then pulled off a lamb leg. The meat, still on the bone, had a different flavor. The part close to the bone possessed a unique aroma and was particularly chewy, especially the cartilage at the joints, which maintained a delicate balance between being crispy and tender.
As he gnawed on the lamb leg, Lu Ban suddenly remembered the person beside him.
Well, presumed to be a person, at least.
Turning his head, he saw the woman watching him with interest. She held her fan in her hand, no longer using it to cover her face. The cheongsam beneath outlined her slender and graceful figure against the last rays of the sunset, creating an alluring silhouette.
“Would you like some?”
Feeling somewhat embarrassed to be eating alone, Lu Ban extended the lamb leg toward her.
The woman looked at the lamb leg and suddenly laughed.
“Do you know whom you are speaking with?”
She asked.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t quite know,” Lu Ban admitted frankly.
He could only roughly guess that she was an ancient overlord of the Abandoned Capital, the entity that had countless eyes peering over the entire city. But as to who specifically she was or her name, Lu Ban really had no clue.
The names of ancient overlords were such that merely sealing them away was troublesome enough, not to mention the ones still roaming the earth.
If possible, Lu Ban preferred not to know her name.
“Do you know why I brought you here?”
Instead of revealing her name, the woman posed another question to Lu Ban.
“To tell you the truth, I don’t know that either.”
Lu Ban felt his biggest flaw in life was his honesty, and at that moment, it was particularly acute.
“You carry a scent that is familiar to me, which I thought might belong to something I left behind. So, I was curious. I wanted to see if bringing you here might lead to some discoveries,” the woman replied. Her statement contained the most significant information by being devoid of any.
“Something you left?” Lu Ban questioned curiously.
“Aren’t you curious about what this place is?”
Instead of answering Lu Ban’s question, the woman countered with her own.
“Then what is this place?”
Lu Ban felt that both questions were similar. Rather than these, he thought it was more practical to ask where the roasted lamb came from.
He wanted to eat some more.
“The name of this place is now lost to history, but it once had a name,” the woman murmured.
“Splendid Realm.”
