Chapter 646: 645. I’ve seen you in my dreams_1 Chapter 646: 645. I’ve seen you in my dreams_1 Just before his palm touched Lu Ban, Byron suddenly stopped moving.

“Have we met somewhere before?”

Byron still maintained a calm smile as he spoke.

“Perhaps, maybe it was in a dream.”

Lu Ban replied casually.

“Ah, in dreams, I’ve seen you in dreams, how sweet your smile…”

He even sang a little bit.

Upon hearing Lu Ban’s singing, Byron’s mouth twitched.

He leaned close to Lu Ban’s ear and whispered softly.

“I’ve heard this melody before.”

Thereupon, Lu Ban likewise whispered back to Byron.

“That being said, we must be from the same hometown.”

The next moment, Lu Ban’s hand reached for Byron’s.

But even faster than that, Lu Ban’s hand began to swell up.

Like an overly inflated balloon, starting from his arm, Lu Ban’s entire body began to wriggle and twist as if it was being inflated by something.

In an instant, Lu Ban’s belly ballooned and burst, his guts spilling out like the blossoming of a flower, exploding open.

Byron’s first instinct was to retreat, to move away from Lu Ban, yet that hand possessed a ghostly nature, relentlessly reaching toward Byron, grabbing his arm.

“Got you.”

Lu Ban’s swollen face revealed a sinister smile, which even Byron found chilling to behold.

A stream of light burst forth upon that hand, and as the light spread, Byron’s side became immobile, turning to a pale grey as if losing its color.

Petrification.

One glance was all it took to understand that Byron, now a sludge monster, was in the process of turning into solid stone.

Byron tried to struggle, but the spread of petrification was much faster than he anticipated. In a moment, he had become completely stone, a lifelike statue.

Lu Ban looked at the stone statue that was now Byron, feeling it looked somewhat familiar.

After a brief moment of thought, he realized it was much like the situation on Jiangcheng Mountain.

The members of Fang Geng’s clan had turned into lifelike stone statues, and when Fang Geng was about to wake, they reverted to their original forms to slaughter humans.

Byron now might have simply been petrified in a common way; if someone were to use a certain method to lift the spell’s influence, he might return to his original state.

“At least he can’t move now.”

Lu Ban remarked and then, his entire being melted.

In the past, Lu Ban might have faced such a situation with a high likelihood of death and couldn’t have managed without growing a crop of grass.

But now, Lu Ban could quickly deal with such circumstances.

A mere fatal wound was nothing; all he had to do was melt his body and then reforge it.

After just a few minutes, Lu Ban reconstituted into human form.

He knocked on Byron’s forehead, his voice sounding muffled.

“Solid indeed.”

He concluded.

“Now what?”

Lu Ban turned his head to look at Shia.

Shia’s expression was somewhat complex.

She couldn’t believe that in just a few days without seeing him, Lu Ban had undergone a slight qualitative change.

Even just now, as she watched Lu Ban melt and re-form, Shia felt that her own sanity was nearly reduced.

“Move him over to Stone’s side?”

After considering, Shia lifted the heavy stone statue of Byron in her hands.

The two arrived at the spirit hall and saw the empty coffin, as well as Stone holding an irregularly shaped stone with a distracted gaze.

“Taken care of?”

Lu Ban inquired.

“Right here.”

Stone handed the stone to Lu Ban. His gaze lingered reluctantly on the stone before shifting away, only to focus and become a bit clearer upon seeing the stone statue of Byron in Shia’s hands.

Lu Ban carefully examined the stone.

The Stone had eight facets, each presenting a quadrilateral with two long and two short sides, glowing like a diamond with a bewitching luster that would fiercely seize one’s gaze.

Within it, Lu Ban could see different scenes unfolding, some filled with joy, others with regret, immersing anyone who looked into memories of the past.

It seemed that Taoist Crane Cry was a Transcendent specialized in this particular area.

Tearing off a piece of cloth, Lu Ban wrapped the object and placed it on the table.

“Now, do we just wait for the ninth day to arrive?”

Lu Ban asked again.

Stone was checking the condition of the Byron statue when he heard Lu Ban’s question and turned his head.

“But I always feel like something is missing.”

“Indeed, whether it’s this Stone or the statue, they are both merely temporary seals, but they haven’t solved the underlying issue.”

Shia murmured, seemingly still pondering over the construction of the Spell.

“These two Spells ultimately aim for the same result—one targets the soul, and the other the body. They appear to be very effective against someone like Taoist Crane Cry, who is nearly at the level of an Ancient Overlord. Really, only an Ancient Overlord can fight against another Ancient Overlord, huh.”

“How about we just smash the statue?”

Lu Ban suggested.

“What if smashing it releases him directly?”

Stone immediately prevented Lu Ban from swinging the Hammer.

The three stared at the statue of Byron, large eyes fixed on small details, but they could not discern anything out of the ordinary.

Night had deepened, the tranquil night draped over everyone’s hearts like a thin veil, spreading dark emotions throughout the spiritual hall, indissoluble.

“If this Soul Summoning Night started because of the dispute involving Taoist Crane Cry, then having dealt with these two characters, we should have completed the mission by now.”

Shia contemplated.

“Unless…”

As she spoke softly, Lu Ban suddenly raised his hand.

“Wait.”

He said.

Stone and Shia immediately looked at him, then quickly turned their heads toward the Byron statue and the Stone wrapped in cloth, yet they saw nothing unusual.

“What’s wrong?”

Stone asked, puzzled.

“Don’t you feel like something’s missing?”

Lu Ban said.

“What’s missing?”

Shia looked around, then came to a sudden realization.

“…We didn’t have dinner.”

“Indeed, missing dinner is an important matter.”

Lu Ban agreed but shook his head nonetheless.

“But that’s not the point. Listen.”

Lu Ban signaled for everyone to be quiet.

Stone and Shia listened intently but heard no strange sounds, no murmurs around their ears, just Silence echoing in the spiritual hall.

Seeing their puzzled expressions, Lu Ban spoke.

“Don’t you think it’s a bit too quiet?”

He stood up and slowly walked towards the window, hidden by curtains.

“Before this, it was always torrential rain outside. Although it wasn’t dead silent, at least there was the usual hubbub, but now…”

This Silence was the most significant abnormality.

Lu Ban drew back the curtains, and he saw a twilight hue.

It should have been deep into the night, yet outside the window, it was an orange glow like that of sunset.

He looked outside, only to see the grey clouds, the destroyed paths, and the crooked trees.

Suddenly, footsteps sounded in the hallway.

They were crisp, coming in intervals, like the tapping of high heels.

The three turned towards the door.
