I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 625 - 625 624. Stormy Villa_1

Chapter 625: 624. Stormy Villa_1 Chapter 625: 624. Stormy Villa_1 Miss Emma’s makeup was slightly smeared, making her appear extremely haggard as she hysterically burst into the dining room, wailing.

“This place is just too dangerous, I need to leave immediately, to think that a dead body appeared, oh God… uh, what are you doing?”

She noticed the three people who were heartily eating and her expression instantly froze.

“What else could we be doing but eating?”

Lu Ban replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world, pushing a plate he had beside him outward.

“Would you like some too?”

“…No, thank you.”

Emma was momentarily stunned by Lu Ban’s matter-of-fact response, then quickly asked.

“How can you still eat with a dead body appearing, there might really be some sort of monster in this house, you could be the next to die!”

She anxiously glanced at every corner of the room, afraid that some monster might suddenly crawl out from a corner and devour her alive.

“How can we investigate the case without being well-fed? Besides, we can’t leave now anyway.”

Stone cut a piece of steak and put it in his mouth, gesturing towards the dining room window where the storm outside was raging furiously.

“The road down the mountain has been destroyed by mudslides, cutting off both the power lines and the telephone. Haven’t you noticed that the lights are out and we can only use candles?”

Reminded by Stone’s words, Emma quickly looked out the window.

Now night had fallen, and outside the window was pitch black, with only the nearby swaying trees visible. The road destroyed by the mudslides had disappeared into the night, and not having seen it with her own eyes, she was somewhat incredulous. She went over to the telephone in the dining room, picked up the receiver, and it wasn’t until silence came from the other end that Emma finally began to accept the reality.

“We really can’t get out?”

Emma asked Stone, her initially aggressive demeanor having completely vanished, leaving only fragility, pity, and helplessness.

“Don’t worry, Miss Emma, I have an arrangement with Chief Holler. If I don’t contact him regularly, he will come up the mountain with his team. If nothing goes wrong, we should see that respectable and responsible chief by tomorrow morning.”

Stone replied, having finished his meal and wiping his mouth with a napkin.

“Really? That’s wonderful.”

Emma’s heart lightened suddenly. She didn’t seem to have the same aversion to the police’s arrival as Lorne did; instead, she was excited about the prospect of gaining freedom soon.

“But with such heavy rain, how can the chief and his team make it here?”

The lady worriedly looked out the window, asking.

“There’s no need to worry.”

Stone seemed unconcerned about the storm outside.

Seeing this, Emma didn’t press any further. If everyone else looked calm, wouldn’t she seem uncultured if she fretted alone like an ant on a hot pan?

She hadn’t seen the body with her own eyes but had only heard about it from the servant, so she wasn’t as distraught as Lorne.

Lorne glanced at his sister and felt that he was the only one who could hold this family together. The image of Gaude’s body would haunt him for the rest of his life; the moment he closed his eyes, he would see Gaude’s expression, twisted in agony, his abdomen hollowed out.

He could even visualize the indescribable monster tearing open his own stomach, using yellowed teeth to rip through his belly and pull out his intestines, consuming them completely.

No, he shouldn’t be like this.

Lorne felt something was off about himself.

He was always calm when handling affairs at the company, but after seeing Gaude’s body, he couldn’t calm down at all, becoming anxious and acting out in ways he never would have before.

It was as if he had become a puppet of his emotions, controlled by fear and timidity, no longer resembling himself.

At that moment, Lorne also felt as if there were whispers in his ear that made him restless, his inner fear gradually taking over his will, making him impulsive and irritable, lacking in calm thought.

“They only want to snatch away your property, those things should belong only to you!”

“Look at that detective, he covets the inheritance left by your father, you must get rid of them as soon as possible!”

“That foolish woman, she will only give her money to those pretty boys, you must kick her out of the house!”

“That brawny idiot with a simple mind would be better off dead, he deserves it, it’s what he ought to get!”

“Before the police get here, you must find that thing, before that crazed charlatan arrives, you must find it.”

These murmured words echoed in Lorne’s ears, the voice was like his own inner voice, repeating over and over, ingrained into his mind as though his sanity would collapse if he didn’t act upon them.

The sensation was bizarre, yet everything seemed justifiable.

He could only believe that his own greedy desires had overtaken his rationality.

Lorne was wary of Stone’s pistol, and he didn’t know what to do now; surely he couldn’t kill them all before the police arrived tomorrow?

No no no, what am I thinking?

Lorne turned his face away, feeling that he had indeed become very strange.

“Where is Miss Lily?”

Stone suddenly asked.

“She’s not feeling well, she’s resting in her room with a servant taking care of her, don’t worry.”

The old butler said.

“It looks like Master Byron won’t be able to make it either. It would be best for us to stay in adjacent rooms tonight, so we can look out for each other if anything happens.”

Stone said.

“Any problems?”

Aima didn’t catch on at once.

“It’s the killer, Miss Emma, the one who killed Mr. Gaude, whether it’s a person or a monster, it’s definitely still inside this villa, and no one can guarantee it came just to kill Mr. Gaude. According to my deduction, its target should be the inheritance of Taoist Crane Cry, because I’ve discovered that Mr. Gaude had books related to Taoist Crane Cry.”

Stone showed the “Crane Cry Talks” that he had in hand.

“At least, Mr. Gaude didn’t just come to reminisce about Mr. Bronning; he once sold this house as an intermediary to Mr. Bronning. He must have known about Taoist Crane Cry as well; this time, he came to Storm Villa to get a slice of the pie.”

“He actually…”

Lorne looked incredulous.

As for Aima, she didn’t seem too moved by what Stone said; she looked somewhat confused and a little frightened and scared, sitting on the sofa with a wine glass in hand, not drinking the red wine within.

The few people stayed in the dining room until the evening, with Aima being the first to give in to fatigue. She yawned and was escorted by the old butler to the adjoining room to rest.

Lorne smoked a couple of cigarettes, hesitating to speak, and eventually left the dining room as well.

Aside from the servants, only the three Chosen by Gods were left.

The storm outside continued to rage, and Stone lit the tobacco in his pipe, staring deeply out the window, where the flashing lightning illuminated the forest, and it seemed as though shadows were stirring.

“Speaking of which, with the weather like this, can the police really come?”

Lu Ban asked quietly, out of curiosity.

“Of course not.”

Stone replied as a matter of course.

“I was just deceiving them.”
