Chapter 604: 603. This is my escape route!_1 Chapter 604: 603. This is my escape route!_1 When the temple appeared, Kuwei immediately felt that something was amiss.
The structure, the architectural style, the aura—without a doubt, this temple was fraught with danger.
Kuwei didn’t know if a universally recognizable safety notice existed in the Foreign Domain, but he was certain that declarations of danger did.
It was the kind of warning one would understand at a glance—an instinctual foreboding of danger.
When the temple came into Kuwei’s view, he instantly sensed immense hazard.
This wasn’t just a simple pollutant; it was the source of Pollution!
All the monsters in the movie, the twisted Pollutions, they all stemmed from this place!
Kuwei knew very clearly that if he continued to watch, he might face the worst possible demise.
But what about the others in the screening room?
These humans—were they really not feeling even a shred of fear in the face of the impending destruction?
They even looked eager and focused.
Kuwei felt a chill run down his spine.
He had seen horrifying things before.
He had seen the fervent believers, the fools oblivious to their own deaths.
But he had never witnessed a spectacle like this.
The audience members weren’t afraid of death or the forthcoming Pollution; their expressions were as serious as that of a child greedily absorbing knowledge in a classroom.
Even as the temple appeared on the big screen, the viewers didn’t back away.
Thinking carefully, Kuwei used his nearly crumbling consciousness to ponder—if the entertainment of movies was widespread in this Foreign Domain, then surely others must have watched this film before.
Yet no unusual disasters had occurred in the entire Foreign Domain.
Did this mean that the humans of this Foreign Domain had withstood such intense Pollution?
If it were any other race, no, even the humans from other Foreign Domains that Kuwei had seen, faced with such a temple, would have to shut their eyes tight and block their senses, fearing that they would be consumed by the Pollution.
However, in this Foreign Domain, people felt no awe, and even took joy in it.
Terrifying!!!
Kuwei dared not imagine what the Transcendents of this world were like.
Or rather, just how deeply had this world been Polluted?
Kuwei had once visited a desert-dominated Foreign Domain where he encountered creations of Evil Gods, the bonded creatures of Ancient Overlords—those insects mimicked human behavior and appearance, sometimes even deceiving themselves, enacting human joys and sorrows amidst the desolation.
Could it be that all the humans in this cinema were imitations created by those most severely Polluted monsters?
Could it be that there were no more normal, sane people left in this world?
Was this the difficulty level of [Sublimation]?
Now, Kuwei finally understood why the task appeared simple but was in fact so challenging.
He felt he was going to meet his end here.
Kuwei tried to dissolve his body to weaken his perception of the surroundings, but the image of the temple had already entered his sight.
Within the temple, the writhing monster bound in chains, the horrifying mass of flesh, was right in the center of the screen.
Buzz—
In an instant, Kuwei’s head exploded.
He felt his will being swept away by some great existence above the skies. In a moment, a myriad of knowledge flooded into his mind—answers to the loftiest conjectures in mathematics, secrets of civilization origins, and a million ways to destroy the world.
But this knowledge had no sense of weight or priority, unceremoniously cramming into Kuwei’s brain, sending his consciousness into a boil.
The last coherent thought he could grasp was, “Have these people gone mad? How dare they stare directly at the sealed Ancient Overlord!!!”
The next moment, Kuwei completely vanished into smoke and mist.
The woman beside him glanced aside, slightly confused about how the man just disappeared in the blink of an eye, but she did not delve into it and continued watching the movie, concerned with what would come next.
No one ever knew that a traveler from a Foreign Domain had once visited the Jiangcheng Cinema.
Meanwhile, outside the Jiangcheng Cinema.
Under the shade of the trees, wisps of gray mist gathered.
Kuwei’s consciousness, which had returned amidst screams, nearly caused him to self-destruct again, but luckily he sealed his memories in time, preserving this last sliver of hope.
As a Chosen by Gods who had survived numerous [Metamorphosis] missions in the Foreign Domain and even had the chance to encounter the [Sublimation] difficulty, he naturally had some life-saving measures for critical moments.
But these measures could only be used once, and usually only after a large portion of his consciousness had been devastatingly damaged—each use left him with one less.
This was Kuwei’s most vulnerable moment.
People bustled around him, and humans, whom he previously would have killed without a second thought, now caused him an immense fear. Kuwei could only flee immediately to a darker corner.
He crawled into the sewers—this damp, dark, foul-smelling environment wasn’t comfortable, but it was devoid of humans, to Kuwei’s satisfaction.
“These people actually take pleasure in watching the sealed Ancient Overlord. How could I possibly complete the mission?”
Kuwei murmured.
They say the difficulty of a mission corresponds to the maximum threat one may face during it. Compared to [Metamorphosis], the [Sublimation] difficulty was truly mind-boggling.
“Who would have imagined encountering the Ancient Overlord, albeit sealed…”
Kuwei dared not release the memories of the movie. He now felt grateful that Misty City people could seal a portion of their mist to block out memories, thus repairing their Sanity polluted by Corruption. But this was not a long-term solution, for once that patch of mist was sealed, it could never be used again, and over time, Kuwei would grow weaker.
Moreover, if any factor caused the memory seal to fail, then Kuwei would be overwhelmed by those previously sealed memories and instantaneously dissipated into nothing.
Kuwei was now faced with a dilemma—if he did not watch the movie to the end, he would be unable to complete his mission and return to Misty City. But in watching the movie, he would lose his life.
He was trapped in this Foreign Domain.
In such a situation, Kuwei typically had two options.
The first was to try his luck with the mission again, though this was extremely dangerous and equivalent to courting death.
The second was to find a way to traverse the Foreign Domain or develop his strength until he became powerful enough to complete the mission.
Some Chosen by Gods endured because they could not complete their mission and yet did not perish in the Foreign Domain, so they were trapped there until their lives ran out.
With this thought, Kuwei suddenly smelled a peculiar scent.
He had been traversing the sewers for a long time and had no idea of his current location.
Kuwei just felt some force drawing him, compelling him to climb upward.
This Misty City person followed the pipes upwards and soon emerged from a drain.
This place seemed to be a bathroom.
