Chapter 544: 543. The snow has stopped_1 Chapter 544: 543. The snow has stopped_1 “Teacher, what’s wrong with you?”

A student noticed Yang Yiwu’s expression and asked.

“Nothing, the teacher is just tired.”

Yang Yiwu stood up and walked over to the window, where he saw the snow outside piling up thicker and thicker. He guessed that there was no hope of the power being restored tonight.

He and these students might have to endure the coldest night yet.

Just like those humans in the movies.

Despair, the same despair.

He even felt like laughing.

After all the effort made, all the methods tried, why were they of no use?

Was humanity truly destined for destruction, and was he and this school bound to be buried by the snowstorm, never to see the sunlight again?

“What did you think of the movie?”

Yang Yiwu asked the students to divert their attention.

“I think, the middle part of the movie was very tragic, making it quite uncomfortable, but in the end, the outcome was good,”

one student replied.

His words made Yang Yiwu look his way, and what the rural teacher saw was a somewhat timid gaze.

“The ending wasn’t actually good. In reality, humanity was not saved. You see those swarms of insects, the minerals on these people’s bodies, they will have a hard time surviving,”

Yang Yiwu explained, thinking that these students didn’t understand the movie.

This was an utterly hopeless disaster film; it wasn’t about the noble qualities exhibited by humanity in the face of disaster but instead, it magnified the ugliness within human nature to its extremes, showing humanity’s inherent flaws through extreme situations.

However, another student chimed in.

“But at least they’re still alive, right? After hundreds of years, that should mean they can continue to survive, doesn’t it?”

“Yeah, and in the end, they found that robot, so they’ll surely learn how the past civilization perished and will probably find a way to deal with the insects. I think it’s an open-ended conclusion,”

another student added.

They were discussing it like a reading comprehension in their language class, each voicing their thoughts.

However, no matter what, they all thought the movie’s ending was good.

Yang Yiwu was silent for a long time.

Perhaps it was because these kids had been exposed to so little and were still so naive that they had such straightforward appreciation.

Yet, hearing the children’s words, Yang Yiwu thought of something else.

Was it because he had experienced too much that he felt such despair towards the world?

Just like the researchers in the movie who, due to their deep understanding of humanity, abandoned their humanity and stepped into the abyss.

Think about it carefully.

If the humans in the movie simply united, helped each other, and supported one another, could they successfully survive these disasters?

Like this ecological park, which stood tall after disasters and a century of time.

And those sick humans, who also emerged from the refuges and established a new civilization.

Is it that sometimes, all that is needed is enough goodwill to get through what seems like insurmountable disasters?

In the midst of despair, Yang Yiwu seemed to feel a glimmer of hope.

The snow outside became heavier, and the chill seeped through the window, making Yang Yiwu’s body stiffen.

He returned to the stove, discussing movies with the students, discussing life, discussing the future, all to keep from falling asleep, all while waiting for a rescue that might never come.

Yang Yiwu found that these children were innocent and imaginative, full of dreams for the future.

He started to wonder, had he imposed too much of society’s pressure onto them?

At least in this world, people didn’t need to worry about those desperate natural disasters and could live a slower-paced life.

Take more time to see the world, to care about those around you, do some good within your means, and face each day with hope.

Yang Yiwu stared into the brazier, feeling his vision begin to blur.

Unconsciously, he fell asleep.

In his dream, swarms of insects, tsunamis, typhoons, laboratories, deserts, and robot girls repeatedly appeared, making him feel as though he was asleep and yet not, in a dazed confusion, unaware of time.

Yang Yiwu was awoken by a series of knocking sounds.

At first, he thought it was hailing. Back in his hometown, he had seen reports of hail in the news, with fist-sized chunks of ice smashing down, shattering windows and leaving large dents in car roofs.

The rat-a-tat of the knocks also sounded like fireworks. As a child, the sound of New Year’s fireworks could last all night, so loud that it was impossible to sleep. Back then, Yang Yiwu only found it annoying, but now, he found himself missing those noisy nights.

“Teacher, Teacher!”

Someone was shaking him. Yang Yiwu remembered his college days, there was a girl in his class. She always sat at the corner of the first row, diligently taking down all the notes. Yang Yiwu only knew her name and major but had never spoken to her. He only knew that when they graduated, the girl also chose to go teach. He wondered if the place where she taught still experienced heavy snowfall?

Yang Yiwu opened his eyes and saw one of his students shaking him, trying to wake him up.

“What is it?”

He was still a bit groggy until the knocking from outside fully woke him. Then Yang Yiwu looked toward the window.

The snow had piled up to half a person’s height, partially covering the window. Outside, a person in a firefighter’s uniform was knocking on the glass with gloved hands.

Behind that person was sunlight.

Yang Yiwu had never felt what a wonderful thing sunlight was as much as he did then.

In that moment, Yang Yiwu understood the content of the movies.

He stood up with all his might and walked toward the window.

Walked toward the sunlight.

Thump, thump, thump—

Lu Ban, asleep on the couch, heard a series of knocks at the door.

He glanced at the time; it was only six o’clock.

The air conditioner was still working hard to generate warmth, and the sound of the computer case running became somewhat hypnotic once he got used to it.

He sat up; the Lu Ban in the mirror seemed not yet awake. Lu Ban didn’t wake him but stood up instead.

Suddenly, Lu Ban felt it was somewhat quiet.

He moved the curtains aside and took a look outside.

The sky was still dark, grey and murky, but the snow had stopped.

Under the illumination of some everlasting lights, the entire world was silent, like a child in deep sleep.

“Has the snow stopped?”

Lu Ban was somewhat curious.

Thump, thump, thump—

There came another series of knocks.

If he didn’t open the door soon, Qin Tiantian would be woken up.

Lu Ban thought, and he glanced at the hotpot on the living room coffee table, which had been cleaned up at some unknown time, and went to the door. He peered through the peephole.

It was Feng Yu.

Lu Ban opened the door.

Feng Yu was wearing a dark, long down coat and jeans, appearing very warm, except she looked rather pale. Lu Ban had probably only seen Feng Yu this haggard when she had just given birth to him.

“The problem’s been solved,”

Feng Yu said.

Then, as if all her energy had been drained, she collapsed into Lu Ban’s arms.
