I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 521 - 521 Super Typhoon 1
Chapter 521: Super Typhoon 1 Chapter 521: Super Typhoon 1 In China, the keyboard king, forensic student Zheng Li, was still ranting online, giving advice as if he were directing traffic, with impassioned words reminiscent of a commoner turned noble of the past.
“Let me tell you, you are completely underestimating the power of modern society’s humanity. Sure, this volcanic eruption seems serious, but in reality, it mainly caused internet disruption by breaking the submarine cables. In fact, contact with the area has already been restored. There are some deaths and injuries, but it’s not so bad that the entire Island Country will be wiped out,” he said.
“In the past, such an eruption could indeed have led to the disappearance of an island nation like this, but now people have plenty of preventive measures, and there is ample rescue force. Even with those level six or seven volcanic eruptions, only areas close to the volcano would be affected. The actual Doomsday scenario is unlikely to happen,” he added.
“You should believe in science, not fall for any scaremongering. Always imagining some… Hang on, I need to get my food delivery. I’ll continue this with you guys after I eat,” he typed.
Zheng Li picked up his continuously vibrating phone and opened the front door.
Outside, a food delivery guy in a yellow vest handed him his order.
“Thank you, thank you.”
After thanking the delivery guy twice, Zheng Li returned to his room.
He wasn’t a fan of talking on the phone. Even though he could engage in online political debates until 4 a.m., spraying his opinion at a rate of five per second, when it came to speaking out loud, he struggled to articulate.
Some say this is social anxiety, but Zheng Li, who studied forensic science, didn’t consider it anything that serious—it was simply an aversion to hassle.
The delivery was a yellow braised chicken with rice. These days, most stir-fry deliveries were just heat-and-serve meal kits, only eaten to fill the stomach. But at least the yellow braised chicken had some soul to it, having been through the pressure cooker.
As he ate, Zheng Li looked for videos to watch while he dined.
Lately, the volcanic eruption in an Island Country in the South Pacific had caused quite a stir. First of all, volcanic eruptions are indeed uncommon—typhoons happen yearly, but volcanos don’t erupt annually.
Furthermore, the abnormal typhoons in the South Pacific from the last couple of years had drawn significant attention to these geological and hydrological disasters. This recent eruption had many linking it to those past typhoons. Additionally, some short videos shot during those typhoons depicted eerie cityscapes, sparking rumors of ancient monsters on the brink of resurrection
In the end, people just had too much free time on their hands.Zheng Li ate a piece of chicken—tender and flavorful, and with rice drenched in the sauce, the taste was exceptional.
He had finished watching a video about an odd little country, having eaten only two-thirds of his meal.
At that moment, Zheng Li stumbled upon a new teaser for the Silence Project.
Lu Ban, this guy, Zheng Li admired him.
As a forensic science student who had seen his fair share of corpses—be they intact or missing limbs, and even ones with extra limbs he had read about in textbooks—Zheng Li used to think he lacked many qualities but always prided himself on his bravery.
Yet, Lu Ban’s movies had shattered that last bit of self-confidence.
Having planned to watch a film by Lu Ban offline, Zheng Li had suffered from hospital PTSD for a significant period afterward, to the point where even continuing his normal studies proved difficult.
He took some time off at home before he finally managed to recover.
But then, he recklessly went to watch another one of Lu Ban’s movies.
The start of that movie was pretty good—adventures of young boys and girls with just enough sweetness.
Unfortunately, the ending had Zheng Li choking.
He stayed home, without speaking to anyone for three days.
From then on, Zheng Li resolved never to watch another of Lu Ban’s films again.
Even if he would die from not watching Lu Ban’s films, even if he had to jump from here, he would not watch another one of Lu Ban’s movies.
Yet, upon seeing this teaser, he felt a twinge of curiosity.
Maybe Lu Ban had toned it down a bit?
Maybe he had reformed and become a director who heals the heart?
Should he give Lu Ban another chance?
His mind still pondering, his hand had already clicked the play button.
Zheng Li first saw a news clip describing the background; it seemed a natural disaster was approaching.
“A disaster movie, okay, that’s not scary.”
Zheng Li immediately relaxed a little.
He also loved watching disaster movies, mainly for the special effects and because disaster movies usually weren’t repulsive, as there were always deaths, and they invariably ended on a positive note.
After all, if all the protagonists died at the end of a disaster movie, what message would the film convey to everyone?
Humanity could never defeat nature?
Zheng Li was determined to defy the heavens and change fate.
With his background in the sciences, medicine, he always believed that medicine was a field that defied the heavens and altered fate, a profession that snatched people from natural death and raced against the Grim Reaper.
So he believed in man’s victory over fate.
His thoughts returned to the video. Zheng Li saw that the camera shifted to the perspective of an on-scene journalist, in a bustling city, with overcast skies that looked like torrential rain was imminent.
The journalist, clad in a raincoat, was shouting something, but Zheng Li could not hear it.
All he saw was a massive storm forming behind the journalist, not too far away.
It was a giant cloud mass, large enough to cover the entire city. Within the dark and deep clouds, sinister lightning twisted and turned, and from within the clouds, countless pieces of debris flew in the air, as light and fluttery as paper scraps.
The wind near the journalist grew wild as well, blowing away the trash on the ground, tipping over bicycles, and causing parked cars to emit a series of beeping alarms.
The journalist was saying something when, in the next moment, a billboard from nowhere came flying and slammed into the unfortunate journalist, sending him flying.
The moment he left the ground, the journalist floated away like a kite without its string, drifting leisurely towards the rapidly moving storm.
The camera lens slowly lifted, and the cloud mass was like a giant, an astonishing sense of oppression piercing through the screen and into Zheng Li’s chest.
He found himself gasping for breath.
Finally, accompanied by a bout of turbulence, the camera—or perhaps the cameraman—was swept up into the air. The camera crew spun rapidly around the storm, and everything on the ground, whether ordinary office workers or wealthy bosses, bicycles or cars, was pulled into the center of the storm, and destruction ensued.
The screen went black, and the title of the film appeared.
“Doomsday”.
It was only then that Zheng Li remembered to breathe, the trailer felt like it possessed some extraordinary power, making him feel as if he was actually within it, facing the tremendously overpowering storm.
Watching this scene, several question marks couldn’t help but pop up in Zheng Li’s mind.
Was Lu Ban really going to transition to making disaster movies?
With such a massive storm, how were they going to wrap it up?
He was very curious. Disaster movie plots usually fell into one of two categories: either the protagonists managed to prevent further catastrophe through their efforts, or the disaster naturally ceased, and the protagonists used all their wits to escape and survive.
But with such a massive storm, Zheng Li couldn’t think of any solution other than summoning Ultraman, nor could he think of a way to survive in winds that could blow away buildings.
Even though Zheng Li had previously said he would never watch another Lu Ban movie in his life.
But now that he thought about it, maybe watching one more wouldn’t hurt.
