I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 485 - 485 484. Canned Cat_1
Chapter 485: 484. Canned Cat_1 Chapter 485: 484. Canned Cat_1 Lu Ban placed the cat into a jar and sealed it.
“This cat seems to be able to usurp a person’s mind, making everyone helplessly fond of it, wanting to possess it, to protect it. If used against the insects, I reckon all the insects will gather around it.”
Lu Ban assessed.
If the insects each had an independent will, then it would not be possible to capture the hearts of all the insects with just one cat.
But the insect swarm in the Wasteland is a whole entity, so as long as one insect sees the cat, it means all the insects have seen the cat. They will definitely converge on the cat, ultimately allowing Lu Ban to catch them all in one fell swoop.
It could be considered an insect trap.
Struggling meows came from the jar; Lu Ban was somewhat tempted, but he still used another jar to encase the first one, completing the nesting of jars and isolating the sound.
He closed his eyes and briefly pictured the cat, and immediately wanted to open the jar to release the cat for a frantic breath.
Fortunately, Lu Ban had strong self-control and knew to delay gratification.
He planned to indulge in the cat crazily after the task was finished.
“It looks like this thing isn’t just visually impactful.”
Lu Ban said.
“It’s also a form of cognitive disruption. If the Time Worms cause you to confuse them with teddy bears, then this kind of cognitive disruption spreads through its image, similar to how objects bearing the image of Time Worms create new Time Worms. Normally, once you’ve seen this cat, it’s hard to escape its influence.”
Feng Yu explained.
“Whether you see its form, hear its voice, or recall its appearance, you’ll be beguiled.”
“No wonder it’s so expensive.”
Lu Ban lamented.
The price of the “Small-Scale Catastrophe Generator” was almost the same as “Cat Addiction”; one was a large-scale weather changer, and the other controlled the mind. Both were very useful to Lu Ban.
After spending a few more days on preparations, Lu Ban finally completed the preliminary work for his journey to the Wasteland.
He carried a backpack filled with the “Minor Calamity Generator”, the jar containing the “Cat Addiction”, a Suona, a crowbar in his hand, and he also brought along some water and food.
Most of the Wasteland was desert and Gobi, lacking water sources and food. To live off the land there meant mostly eating insects, which Lu Ban didn’t fancy the taste of, and he couldn’t be sure that consuming too much insect meat wouldn’t turn him into an insect.
After making these preparations, Lu Ban came to the coffee table in the living room. On the table, illusions of dishes twisted into existence, where vegetables squirmed like insects. Lu Ban frowned slightly at the sight.
[Enter Silent Lands?]
[Yes/No]
Then, he picked up a pair of chopsticks with his hand and ate a bite of the dish.
An indescribable flavor spread from his tongue, sending a shiver down his spine. Right after, a sensation that was both searing hot and bitterly cold enveloped Lu Ban, as though he found himself in the midst of a polar blizzard and then suddenly under the scorching sun of the Sahara Desert.
At the same time, the System’s detached and cold text gradually emerged.
[The flow of time in the Silent Lands is inconsistent with the outside world.]
[The time ratio for this journey is: 2:1]
[Heading to the Wilderness]
He saw countless little figures dancing around him. On closer inspection, almost all of the figures were Lu Ban himself, some dressed in ethnic costumes, others in suits, and still others naked. These little figures each danced their own dance, high-spirited, as if at a year’s grand celebration.
Watching these little figures, Lu Ban also felt the urge to dance. Just then, he saw all the little figures suddenly freeze in place, their heads turning towards him in all sorts of reasonable and unreasonable ways as numerous eyes became nothing but pitch black.
Lu Ban was startled and felt as if he had sat down on something soft.
It was sand.
With a touch, Lu Ban felt the material flowing between his fingers.
A sensation of burning heat followed immediately.
The light occupied Lu Ban’s entire field of vision.
“We should move forward now.”
A voice came from beside him, a woman’s. Lu Ban looked over and saw a woman with deep brown, slightly curly hair, her skin a healthy wheat color. She seemed to be of mixed heritage, possessing both the defining features of Westerners and the gentleness of Easterners. Although she wasn’t beautiful, with freckles on her cheeks, she exuded a sense of vitality.
“Okay.”
Lu Ban grasped her outstretched hand, leaning on the crowbar to stand up.
“That’s a pretty unique looking walking stick you’ve got.”
The woman laughed, then moved forward.
The sky ahead was clear, the sun fierce, and the ground’s gravel had long been boiling. The high temperature made the air above the ground flow, causing the distant landscape to begin shimmering like a mirage.
Lu Ban glanced at the camel-like creature by his side and his two other teammates.
One of the men seemed like a guide, his skin even darker—a color that only comes from years of exposure to the sun, signifying great experience in this desert.
A knife hung at his waist, and his right forearm was marked with crystals, a symbol of illness.
This man’s name was Moment, and from what Lu Ban understood, his abilities probably had something to do with speed.
Another woman had brown hair tied up and wore a hat. She seemed to be from the same place as the first woman but had paler skin. She rode the camel and appeared a bit nervous.
This woman was named Singer, a crystal shone at her neck, indicating that her ability likely related to her throat or voice.
As for the first woman, her name was Shuangxin.
Lu Ban looked ahead where, in the wavering heat, the cold and indifferent words of the Silent Lands emerged.
[The Wasteland]
[In the ninth year of Berlikri, no meteor strikes]
[Swarms destroyed the City-states. More than the harsh desert and dried up oases, swarms became mankind’s greatest threat]
[People tried to study the swarms, the mighty Queen Bug above, seeking vulnerabilities in these creatures]
[Or rather, the possibility that these creatures have any weaknesses]
[Mission difficulty: Sublimation]
[Mission objective: Find the Queen Bug]
[Mission objective: Survive]
[Mission objective: Obtain Du Danping’s Melody Shard]
Looking for the Queen Bug would likely take a considerable amount of time in this vast desert.
With this thought, Lu Ban suddenly had a burst of inspiration and looked at the man beside him, Moment, and spoke up.
“Do you know what Halloween is?”
“Halloween?”
Moment, hearing this unfamiliar term, tilted his head in confusion.
“Halloween?”
The brown-haired Singer repeated the term, her eyes filled with curiosity.
“Is it a festival?”
Shuangxin, walking at the front, asked.
“It’s a festival that can bring happiness.”
Lu Ban glanced at his companions, merely hoping they weren’t turned from bugs.
