Chapter 483: 482. This dish is not popular to eat_1 Chapter 483: 482. This dish is not popular to eat_1 “I can’t have this dish.”

Lu Ban thought.

Generally, if it doesn’t have the name of a foreign domain, it’s from this world.

As for soul-calling, Lu Ban had heard of it before; it’s a superstitious action from feudal times that once caused great turmoil and is considered a historically significant and strange event.

Lu Ban himself didn’t believe in such bull and snake gods.

He felt that the reason soul-calling led to various problems was that it was inherently strange, a sort of twisted rule.

And the rule was probably that as long as one’s name was called and they responded, something would happen.

It was somewhat like the Purple Gold Gourd of the Silver-horned Great King.

Perhaps that Purple Gold Gourd was a strangeness in itself.

This was the scientific and reasonable explanation that Lu Ban arrived at.

Maybe there was information on Life Jade in this mission, but wandering through the modern city wasn’t that simple.

He looked at the second dish of scrambled eggs with tomatoes.

[Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea]

[Venturing ten thousand leagues deep into the ocean, I beheld the gate to Hell.]

[It is said that a divine being resides in a part of the deep sea where not even Tide Summoners dare to tread. In those secret sanctums, ancient mumbles echo, and primordial evil resides]

[Touch it, open it, witness Him]

[When the earth and sky become one, that is the end]

[“No way, no way, there can’t really be someone who wants to release an Evil God, right?”]

“A new map.”

Lu Ban made his judgment.

Scrambled eggs with tomatoes wasn’t a new dish, but the Deep Sea was undoubtedly a new domain within the Silent Lands.

If he hadn’t previously visited the Deep Sea with Feng Yu, it would have been an entirely new map; unfortunately, Lu Ban had been spoiled in advance and lost the sense of novelty.

Of course, Lu Ban still obtained quite a bit of information from the description of this mission.

“There’s still an Evil God sealed in the deep sea?”

Lu Ban asked Feng Yu.

“Which foreign domain isn’t home to a few sealed Evil Gods?”

Feng Yu countered.

“Rather, it’s likely that the vast majority of foreign domains wouldn’t even have civilizations if it weren’t for the Pollution caused by the sealed Evil Gods.”

“How so?”

Lu Ban was curious.

“Take our world, for instance. If you pay attention to the evolution of ancient life, you’ll realize that this world didn’t originally contain oxygen. Yet even without oxygen, there was still life.”

Feng Yu explained simply.

“Those forms of life didn’t require oxygen to survive, such as the anaerobic bacteria we know now. Later, oxygen appeared, and the world was turned upside down, with over ninety-nine percent of lifeforms going extinct. After that, the ancestors of current humans were born. Tell me, for those anaerobic bacteria, wasn’t the appearance of oxygen a form of severe Pollution?”

After hearing Feng Yu’s explanation, Lu Ban thought there might be some truth to it.

To humans, oxygen was undoubtedly the source of life.

To anaerobic bacteria, however, oxygen was toxic.

If life couldn’t adapt to an oxygen-rich environment, then it would unquestionably perish.

Here, the analogy of oxygen as Pollution fit the same principle.

Especially since Lu Ban had witnessed places like the Deep Sea; in his words, these places were already Polluted beyond further Pollution, Mutated beyond further Mutation.

Yet, they were still able to preserve civilization.

And in domains like Dusk City, where the original civilizations had been destroyed because of the fall of Divine Beings, lifeforms such as Eye Demons could still evolve — it must be said that life is tenacious, always finding a way to survive.

This further confirmed Lu Ban’s thought: appropriate self-Pollution could effectively resist the Pollution from foreign domains and slow the relentless march towards destruction.

If he had not been to the Deep Sea, he might have taken this mission to broaden his horizons, but unfortunately, Lu Ban had already seen it all.

Moreover, he felt that if the Evil God of the Deep Sea were truly released, the Little Fish Men would be far too pitiable.

Not only would they be unable to sell themselves in Foreign Domains to realize their self-worth, but they would also be ravaged by the Evil God.

Kind-hearted Lu Ban couldn’t bear to witness such a scene and did not plan on choosing this mission.

Then, it seemed there was only one option left.

He looked at the last dish on the menu.

Above the dry pot cabbage, the System’s cold, indifferent words appeared.

[Whom do the swarms fly for?]

[Some say the three most despair-inducing things in the Wasteland are the scorching sun, drought, and insects.]

[But in my eyes, the insects are the most terrifying of all. They are everywhere, coming from all directions, and in the shortest amount of time, they will consume your flesh and blood, leaving only shattered bones.]

[Yet some people make it their profession to study these insects, trying to find ways to control them through research. But they fail to realize that humanity has studied death for so many years and still can’t escape it.]

[If you ask me, it’s better to pray that when the bugs attack, you’ll die quickly.]

[“Shh, listen, that’s the sound of flapping wings.”]

“Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.”

Lu Ban had already planned to visit the Wasteland to meet those bugs, and now it was perfect; there was a mission.

Without the slightest hesitation, he didn’t need to consult the Madman’s Knowledge to choose this mission.

Picking up the last bit of cabbage with his chopsticks, Lu Ban ate it.

The dish was somewhat cold, and the texture of the cabbage was strange, as though he was eating insects.

After taking a bite, the text immediately changed.

[Mission item detected, mission content has changed]

Suddenly, beneath the mission description, several lines of text spread out from the congealed oil flowers.

[Mission Difficulty: Sublimation]

[Mission Objective: Find the Queen Bug]

[Mission Objective: Survive]

[Mission Objective: Obtain Du Danping’s Melody Fragment]

“Du Danping!”

Lu Ban once again saw this familiar name.

In the past, at Nanhua Private Renji Hospital, in the small town of the Abandoned Capital, Lu Ban had already obtained two Melody Shards.

The third one had finally emerged in the Wasteland.

Yet, the description of this mission was too simple and crude, undoubtedly related to the insects.

“The mission requires finding the Queen Bug, so it seems I might be tasked with protecting someone in their search for bugs, and then survival becomes part of the mission as well.”

He had roughly envisioned the mission’s outline: likely protecting one or several research scholars studying the bugs, tracking the insects’ traces, eventually discovering the location of the Queen Bug, and then making an escape.

And Lu Ban would have to attempt to kill the Queen Bug and obtain the Heart of the Swarm.

Simple and straightforward, no riddles to solve, quite reasonable.

As for Du Danping’s Melody Fragment, Lu Ban suspected it was also on the Queen Bug, but he wasn’t sure about the role it played.

This mission had no companions, so Lu Ban could only set off alone.

“I just hope Old Cui is alright.”

Lu Ban couldn’t help but say a prayer for Cui Siter.

“To which Divine Being are you praying?”

Feng Yu suddenly inquired, as if she could read Lu Ban’s thoughts.

“Which one… Now that you mention it, there don’t seem to be any gods to pray to.”

Lu Ban thought about it, this world lacked both deities and saviors; it was still up to him.
