Chapter 419: 418. Leave some leeway in life_1 Chapter 419: 418. Leave some leeway in life_1 “He got away without a problem?”

Shia asked, unsure where exactly the Sludge Monster took Stone.

“After all, he is the son of an acquaintance. It’s always good to leave room for kindness, so you can face each other in the future.”

Lu Ban thought about the Ancient Capital still battling against the Divine Beings behind the door, and therefore, didn’t relentlessly chase down Stone.

“That being said, what should we do with this thing?”

He pointed at the blooming Glass Flower. The entire Catania Family estate had been overtaken by these flowers, now a pile of rubble and ruins, where amidst the decay and desolation, a radiant flower blossomed.

Within its glassy exterior was a gray, viscous sludge, the surface of which was constantly undulating as if there were countless distorted, hateful, and sorrowful faces mingling within.

In any world, this would be considered a breathtaking work of art.

“Should we blow it up?”

Shia couldn’t help feeling eager, glancing at her companion, Cui Siter.

“Cui Siter, what’s wrong with you?”

The famed detective of the Abandoned Capital stood with his mouth agape, speechless before the scene.

“You just reduced the biggest gang leader in the city to ash, and blew up his house as well?”

Cui Siter seemed to just come to his senses.

“Is there something wrong with that?”

Lu Ban countered.

“No, this is very wrong. You guys are fine, you’ll finish your task in the Silent Lands and then skip town, but dammit, I have to stay here! When the Catania Family comes looking for trouble, how am I supposed to live?”

Cui Siter felt his life was in considerable danger.

He just barged into the Catania estate, then Corleone died, Stone fled, and that certainly pointed to him being the culprit!

“It’s simple. Just pin all the blame on Stone.”

Lu Ban said without a second thought.

“Is that how you treat the son of an acquaintance? Didn’t you just talk about leaving room for kindness?”

Cui Siter was dumbfounded.

“If Stone had died here, you wouldn’t have been able to explain yourself. But now that he’s fled, he certainly won’t come back to confront you. Whatever you say will be taken as the truth.”

Lu Ban patted Cui Siter on the shoulder, reassuring him.

“So you let him go for that reason?”

Cui Siter suddenly found Lu Ban quite intimidating, seemingly thoughtless but actually, he had considered everything.

“Not exactly. I think Stone might do something significant in the future. I’m certainly no devil, so I would not engage in such total annihilation.”

Lu Ban felt that, after the incident on He Dao, the fate of the inhabitants of the Foreign Domain wasn’t always something he could decide.

The Sludge Monster, after receiving the murmurs of a greater existence, should have lost all sanity and become like those in the hospital—expanding endlessly and exist foolishly.

Yet, it managed to contain itself and protect Stone in the end.

Considering Stone’s reference to the Sludge Monster, and the human traits it displayed, it was difficult to say whether it was due to some error caused by being forced to emerge before completely descending.

In such a case, aggressively pursuing Stone made no sense, and it might even set a trap for Lu Ban’s future self.

“You could take the opportunity to track down Stone’s whereabouts. He’s no ordinary person. If you’re willing, you could take him in as an assistant,” Lu Ban added.

“???”

Cui Siter was baffled.

The Catania Family was now certainly out for Stone’s blood; a relentless hunt was in order, and with his dreams and hopes shattered, he’d be busy trying to kill Cui Siter, but how could he possibly help him?

“You don’t understand. Stone is a smart man. He’s witnessed the power of the extraordinary; he’s very clear about interests and relationships. Like Corleone, as long as it benefits him, he doesn’t care if the person used to be a friend or foe.”

Lu Ban explained.

“You’ve cracked the Catania Family case. Their people will thank you. The higher-ups will provide you protection for indirectly taking care of Corleone. Soon, the Catania Family will fall apart without their leader, and internal strife will ensue. Old Cui, you have a bright future ahead!”

“I hope what you’re saying is true.”

Cui Siter felt a wave of relief wash over him.

“Remember to treat us to something tasty when the time comes.”

Shia was only interested in food; however, she gave it another thought.

“So, who exactly is this sludge, and why does it obey Stone?”

“I think it might be because Stone came into contact with the pollution from the Foreign Domain, so the monster saw him as one of its own, or maybe he once helped Liz, so when that girl was devoured by the rampaging monster, the remaining consciousness chose Stone?”

Cui Siter pulled his thoughts away from the problem of how to arrange the aftermath.

“Why not ask it itself?”

Lu Ban pointed at the blooming Glass Flower.

The monster was thoroughly dead, and the Glass Flower might become a landmark building here, standing tall in the wealthy district.

But it must have had a reason for choosing Cui Siter to show those dreams.

Cui Siter reached out and touched the crystal clear Glass Flower, and in an instant, the scenery before his eyes changed.

This was some kind of pollution seeping into his consciousness, bringing him knowledge while also bringing corrosion.

Cui Siter saw that he was lying in a bed.

This was that room.

He felt extremely weak, even breathing seemed to exhaust all his strength.

Noisy voices came from outside the door, he didn’t know what had happened.

Suddenly, footsteps approached.

Cui Siter’s gaze turned towards the door, which was violently pushed open, and Liz entered anxiously, she quickly shut the door behind her.

“A lot of people have come outside, they are all armed, it might be Mr. Tuck, they might be looking for Mr. Tuck, we must leave immediately.”

As she spoke, Liz tried to pick Cui Siter up, but a girl’s frail strength clearly wasn’t enough, she failed once, twice, the noise outside was growing louder, this time, Cui Siter could clearly hear that it was gunfire.

Bang bang bang—

The door burst open, curses and howls mixed together, Cui Siter saw people outside being shot in the head, blood spattering the walls with a deep red.

“Ah!”

Liz screamed, seeing people in black suits sweep past the doorway, several went forward, firing into the room next door.

After a moment, the room next door went quiet, there seemed to be some sound, followed by another round of gunfire.

Liz covered her mouth, holding Cui Siter, she stared dumbfounded at the gangsters outside, unable to make a sound.

“It’s him, it’s definitely him.”

Cui Siter saw that the gang had brought a woman, it was Flora, she identified Tuck’s body, laughing maniacally.

The gangsters exchanged a few words, ready to leave.

Then, Flora suddenly looked toward Liz and Cui Siter in the room, raising her hand.

“These two are also Tuck’s mistresses, they can’t be left alive.”

The gangsters looked at each other, several of them took Flora away, Cui Siter saw Maggie among them, then a gang leader walked into the room.

He pinched Liz’s face, confirming the young girl’s appearance, then he began to tear at Liz’s clothes, uttering some extremely foul words.

Liz struggled fiercely, scratching the man.

The gangster, furious and humiliated, pulled out a pistol from his waist and shot Liz.

Bang bang bang—

Liz fell backwards, her petite body fluttering down like petals.

Cui Siter’s vision turned red.

He felt something within him, bursting forth with intense emotion.

The grey sludge burst from his body, tearing the gangster to pieces.

More gangsters rushed in, firing their guns; the bullets couldn’t harm Cui Siter. Instead, tendrils formed by the sludge pierced through their bodies one by one, the wills of the dead flowing into Cui Siter’s brain, making him feel dizzy.

Eventually, all the gangsters were dead.

Cui Siter approached Liz, looking at the girl who had been his sole reliance, as the sludge spread over her body.

In Liz’s eyes, which were gradually losing focus, Cui Siter saw his own last visage.

It was almost identical to Liz’s, but obviously more thin and fragile.

“Survive.”

With her last bit of strength, Liz spoke a word, and a name.

“Aio.”
