Chapter 414: 413. You’ve been fooled_1 Chapter 414: 413. You’ve been fooled_1 “You’ve been duped.”

Hearing Lu Ban’s words, Stone’s expression paused momentarily.

“What are you talking about?”

“I mean that you’ve been deceived. You could never take over the Catania Family, you’ve just been used, by that Godfather.”

Lu Ban spoke unhurriedly.

The eyes of the thug standing behind Stone glanced over, fixating on Lu Ban as his hand reached inside his jacket, under his armpit—where a gun is typically holstered.

“I don’t understand what you mean.”

Stone remained unmoving, his emotions from moments before now reined in, his eyes reflecting no light, like a deep lake that could absorb all light.

“Mr. Corleone might have told you that his own children are useless, and he wishes for a better future for the family. Therefore, he’s hoping to break the tradition of bloodline continuity, allowing someone truly capable to lead.”

As Lu Ban and Stone locked eyes, he said.

“So, it seems he condoned your elimination of Catania Family members, including his own daughter. But in reality, it was all orchestrated by him, with Lady Martina evidently being the less important one for the family.”

Stone remained silent, his hands behind his back already drawing a handgun, not aiming at Lu Ban but remaining wary of the surroundings.

“He made you believe you could become the Godfather of the family. He indeed admires your capabilities and needs them. To maximize a person’s potential, you need to convince him that his efforts will be rewarded. He saw that you are not one to be contented with just being a ‘strategist.’ Thus, for his family’s interest, for his son’s benefit, Mr. Corleone used you to eliminate rival gangs, consolidating the Catania Family’s dominance in the underworld.”

Lu Ban said, these thoughts not his own, of course.

Lu Ban was merely an impassive tape recorder.

This came to Cui Siter’s mind after hearing Lu Ban’s account.

“The first few deaths seemed normal, but when Lady Martina died, something was off.”

“For Lady Martina to stay alone in a room under such circumstances was unreasonable; she was a social butterfly, a society lady who would relish interactions at such an event. And she wouldn’t stay on her own in a room for long, even if she had to pay Cui Siter; I think she might have been following her father’s orders to stay in the room at that time.”

“Considering this, the reason why the Godfather would kill his own daughter becomes clear.”

“Her father cared deeply for each child. You are completely mistaken.”

Hearing Lu Ban’s words, Stone suddenly chuckled.

“Why don’t you tell me how I killed Martina and the others?”

“The conflict between the Blade Gang and the Catania Family led to a girl’s death. That girl had a live-in partner who survived and sought to avenge her. Under certain circumstances, he mutated into a monster, possessing the power to make people blossom into Glass Flowers.”

As Lu Ban spoke, he glanced at the thug.

“You persuaded him, telling him there’s a better way to strike back against the Catania Family, a better method to torment his enemies.”

“He killed Flora because she used to bully that girl, and perhaps because of Flora’s snitching, the Catania Family was able to pinpoint the Blade Gang’s weakest moment and strike. This is why, even as Blade Gang leader Tuck’s woman, she wasn’t eradicated by the Catania Family but instead received treatment from Doctor Howes.”

“He killed Doctor Howes for exploiting that girl through drug trafficking while hypocritically posing as a good man, and because Howes had connections with the Catania Family and had helped the gang.”

“He killed Maggie who had escaped punishment, a relative of the Catania Family, and the direct culprit for the girl’s death.”

“He killed Lady Martina, the Godfather of the Catania Family’s daughter, believing it was the true beginning of his revenge.”

“He also tried to kill me, but unfortunately, even the doctors say I’m in excellent health; he didn’t succeed.”

“You might not know, but he was also planning to kill you next because he learned that you were the instigator behind the Catania Family’s expansion, the one who triggered the conflict with the Blade Gang. This too was the Godfather’s handiwork. When everything settles down, you’ll die from a Glass Flower, and this case will remain unsolved because one of the perpetrators will have become a victim.”

Having finished speaking, Lu Ban’s hand materialized the “Testament,” invisible to both Stone and the thug—a phantom revolver.

Aiming at the thug, Lu Ban fired decisively.

Bang—

The thug collapsed instantly, convulsing, as the great presence’s mumblings snatched away all his consciousness in a mere moment.

On seeing this, Stone sighed.

“Most of what you said was correct, unfortunately, there’s one thing that’s wrong.”

Accompanied by Stone’s words, Lu Ban felt a familiar sense of threat.

This feeling was like being watched by some terrifying hunter, spine-chilling to the core.

“He’s not the assassin.”

Stone said with an unfaltering smile.

“It is.”

Lu Ban’s gaze shifted to the gentle golden retriever.

The next moment, his innards were dragged out by a colossal force, and the flesh, organs, and fragments of bone twisted and swirled, solidifying to form a gigantic Glass Flower.

However, this time, the Glass Flower did not burst forth from the body, but was forcefully suppressed by some power. Several small footprints appeared on Lu Ban’s chest, softly and assuredly holding back those changes.

Even so, a great deal of blood seeped from Lu Ban’s facial features, and with a thud, he collapsed to the ground.

The color of the golden retriever turned into a myriad of hues, resembling melting chocolate, transforming into a mud-like state. Its multicolored blackness constituted its entire body, emitting bursts of foul stench, as the viscous mud-like slime stuck to Lu Ban’s body, glistening under the sunlight.

“You’ve worked hard, Liz.”

Stone’s expression was complicated, tinged with sorrow and self-mockery.

The mud-like creature then shifted form again, reverting to the likeness of a golden retriever and affectionately nuzzled Stone.

“He might still come back to life, we need to deal with him properly.”

Stone took the handgun from the fallen thug’s hand and aimed it at Lu Ban’s head, ready to pull the trigger.

The next moment, the floor beneath him abruptly swelled.

Boom—

Sawdust flew, and the golden retriever quickly transformed into the mud-like creature, wrapping around Stone to block the impact.

In the midst of the explosion, a figure clad in armor leaped up.

“Damn, my house!”

Cui Siter’s voice followed, coming from downstairs as he looked up to the upper floor.

“Kill her.”

Without any mercy, Stone called out, and the golden retriever turned to mud looked at Shia.

Shia felt her innards churn tumultuously, as some force attempted to drag them out, sculpting them into a beautiful Glass Flower.

But a force was blocking it, and a spell barrier stopped the curse, making the golden retriever whimper.

Seeing this, Stone did not linger and quickly fled with the golden retriever.

For them, there were more important things to do.
