I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 348 - 348 347. Wanted Notice_1
Chapter 348: 347. Wanted Notice_1 Chapter 348: 347. Wanted Notice_1 Hearing the hostess’s words, Lu Ban quickly thought of the Bandaged People.
Such an odd get-up, they must be those invaders from the Foreign Domain.
“Both of them are Bandaged People…”
Lu Ban thought to himself.
“What’s the matter, you want to see the big shot too?”
Upon seeing Amber standing still all of a sudden, the hostess teased.
“Yeah, what time in the afternoon, she and I were just thinking about going out for a walk.”
Lu Ban had Amber take two steps back and took the bamboo basket himself.
Once the hostess left with the little girl, he and Amber returned to the room.
“It looks like they are indeed here to kill you.”
Lu Ban checked the freshness of the fish, such freshly caught live fish with not a hint of fishiness, most suitable for boiling or steaming.
“What should we do?”
Amber fiddled with the hem of her clothes, clearly anxious.
The life on The Island had made her feel she could escape that sort of existence, but reality kept reminding her that she was a candidate for Chief Priestess, the focus of everyone’s attention and expectations.
But Amber just wanted to live a tranquil life now.
“Let’s wait and see for now, if necessary, we’ll take the other side out.”
Lu Ban felt that when he said this, he sounded just like a retired professional Assassin.
Shouldn’t he be hugging a potted plant and saying a few words to it? Oh, he was the potted plant, so never mind.
“…Mhm.”
Amber nodded.
Even though naïve, she was aware that the Assassins were coming for her, and if she wasn’t ruthless, she would be the one to die, and now Amber, who had a taste of happy life, wanted to live.
“I’ll change your look, so it’s harder for them to recognize you, and this afternoon I can take him out on the spot.”
Lu Ban said, then changed Amber’s hairstyle.
“Why this hairstyle, is there a reason behind it?”
Amber, seeing her twin ponytails, was somewhat puzzled.
“Isn’t this pretty good?”
Lu Ban had Amber put on plain clothes and slightly covered her face so that she could not be recognized at a glance. After eating the fish they cooked for lunch, in the afternoon, they headed towards the Island Steward’s yamen, and just in case, Lu Ban also carried a Crowbar.
The Island’s population totaled just over a thousand people, and most of the men were still at sea involved in fishing, leaving only women, the elderly, children, and some young men in trade to gather for the occasion.
Lu Ban and Amber moved through the crowd, a little conspicuous among a group of women and children because of his tall stature.
He thought about it and stood under a tree, listening from a distance while Amber hid behind the tree, and Laika was going round in circles nearby, playing in the mud with other dogs it found there.
Watching the Island Steward’s people come out of the yamen, Lu Ban quickly spotted the “big shot” guest.
Indeed, it was a Bandaged Person.
Covered in bandages, his body composed of grey mist, with only one blood-red eye.
In the eyes of the people of Harmony Island, he was just a man covered in scars and bound by bandages, only a Chosen by Gods from the Foreign Domain like Lu Ban could see his real face.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I am an envoy from the Great Shrine of Harmony Island. I have come here for one reason only, to capture an escapee.”
He began to speak, his voice deep and husky like that of a seasoned wolf.
“A Shrine Maiden has been corrupted by filth and has become a Calamitous Shrine Maiden, fleeing Harmony Island with a male accomplice, lurking in this vicinity, attracting attacks from the filth. If anyone sees these two, please contact us immediately, there will be a generous reward from the Shrine.”
He posted two bounty posters.
Upon seeing them, Lu Ban was impressed.
The level of skill in these portraits was high, far superior to those artsy abstract paintings that barely resembled the subject; they looked almost like photographs, hard to believe they were drawn by hand.
“Perhaps it’s some kind of superhuman artifact,”
Lu Ban thought as he saw the woman from that morning who had given him fish. She clearly recognized Amber and Lu Ban, as she looked around and pulled her daughter close.
“It seems their tactic is to vilify you as the Calamitous Shrine Maiden and have the common people issue a pursuit,”
Lu Ban said to Amber, who was hiding behind a tree.
Amber bit her lower lip; she hadn’t expected them to resort to this strategy.
If she didn’t kill him, she would be pursued no matter where she went.
The only way to end all this was to go to the Great Shrine of Harmony Island and clear her name.
“The good news is that Changfeng Island is the first one nearby; if we can deal with him in time, at least on the other side of the ocean, nobody will know about these matters,”
Lu Ban reasoned. In He Dao, where transportation and communication were limited, if they could suppress the source of the rumors here, Amber could still secure the life she desired.
“So, Miss Shrine Maiden, do you need me to kill him for you?”
Lu Ban suddenly asked, quoting a line from a movie.
“Please kill him for me,”
Amber finally stopped hesitating.
“Received.”
Lu Ban watched the Bandaged People return to the enforcement office. After thinking for a moment, he instructed Amber to head to where they had landed—the small boat was hidden in the forest. After seeing off the Shrine Maiden, he casually picked up a conical sedge hat and put it on. With a sword in tow, he would look just like a wandering ronin.
Unfortunately, Lu Ban had a crowbar at his waist instead of a sword.
The crowd dispersed, but Lu Ban walked towards the enforcement office.
Swimming against the current, he attracted some stares, but the vast majority didn’t connect Lu Ban with the earlier wanted notices.
Only the woman who owned the house, upon seeing Lu Ban, started trembling and clutched her daughter tight.
“Flower, flower,”
The little girl, still too young to understand, smiled upon seeing Lu Ban.
“I’m really grateful you didn’t expose us just now. Please believe we are not bad people,”
Lu Ban told the woman.
If she had denounced them directly in front of the Bandaged People, the entire island would have likely been mobilized instantly. But she hadn’t. Lu Ban didn’t know if it was because she feared his retribution or if she chose to trust him and Amber; either way, it didn’t matter.
The woman’s lips were purple, her legs trembling, barely able to stand.
Lu Ban didn’t speak to her again but went to the entrance of the enforcement office instead.
There stood two Island Stewards. At first, they looked puzzled, but soon, they connected Lu Ban with the person on the wanted posters.
“It’s you!!!”
While shouting, they grasped their clubs, attempting to stop Lu Ban.
“This has nothing to do with you. If you don’t want to die, you’d best step aside,”
Lu Ban lifted the crowbar.
The two Island Stewards glanced at each other and took two steps back.
But the others behind them rushed out, and the Island Stewards exchanged glances before charging at Lu Ban.
Crack—
Lu Ban tossed aside the conical hat and swiftly grabbed the crowbar with one hand, while materializing the “Testament” with the other, and charged at the Island Stewards.
