I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 343 - 343 342. Environmentalist_1
Chapter 343: 342. Environmentalist_1 Chapter 343: 342. Environmentalist_1 This island was quite large, with expanses of beach followed by thickets of coconut-like trees with broad leaves that could block out the sun.
Further back, one could see patches of dense woods and mountains; it was uncertain whether there were people on the island, as, at least from where Lu Ban stood, the beach seemed deserted.
Once more setting foot on solid ground, Amber couldn’t help but feel weak in the knees. After a night’s tossing and turning—even if she managed to grab some sleep—nightmares kept disturbing her, preventing peaceful rest.
She knelt on the sand, indifferent to her clothes getting sandy, her heart beating with the palpable thrill of having survived a calamity, unsettling the young woman who had encountered such disaster on her first trip away from home.
“I wonder if the fruit on these trees is edible.”
Lu Ban gave a tree laden with several fruits a kick.
“Don’t come any closer, it’s dangerous under this kind of tree; if you’re not careful, a fruit might fall down and hit… ow!”
Before Lu Ban could finish his sentence, his head was struck by a falling fruit.
“Are you, are you okay?”
Amber jumped up in fright, rushing to Lu Ban’s side only to see a large amount of fresh blood flowing from his head, which looked quite serious.
“I, the ‘Word Spirit’ for healing…”
She was somewhat flustered, recalling the knowledge she had learned before, unconcerned about the bloodstains on her body.
But Lu Ban quickly sat up.
His head was covered in blood, giving him a fierce and terrifying appearance.
“Don’t worry, don’t worry, the grass has already started to grow.”
Lu Ban reassured her while touching his own head.
Grass resembling the leaves of the tree had sprouted at the site of the wound.
Amber’s eyes widened at the sight of the grass growing on Lu Ban’s head.
Soon, the bleeding from Lu Ban’s head stopped. He rinsed his face with seawater and picked up the fruit that had cracked his skull open.
It must be said, Lu Ban’s head was quite hard, hard enough that even the fruit with a seemingly tough shell had split open.
Inside was exposed white flesh and juice.
It looked quite similar to a coconut.
Lu Ban sniffed it and then tasted the flesh and juice inside.
The taste was quite nice.
He had never had a real coconut—only the packaged coconut water he had drunk all his life—so he wasn’t sure if coconuts tasted like this.
“Do you want to drink some? This fruit should help with hydration.”
Lu Ban offered the fruit, still smeared with a bit of his own blood, to Amber.
“?”
Looking at the fruit that seemed to still retain some of Lu Ban’s brain matter, Amber was at a loss whether to accept it.
“Oh, you think what I drank is not enough, right? No worries, I can knock another one down. Just step back a bit.”
Lu Ban considerately said, having Amber hold that fruit while standing further away.
He kicked the tree again, and after a while, another fruit fell down.
“The shells of these fruits can also be saved and used as containers; we might cook some fish soup in them at night.”
Lu Ban pried the fruit shell open with a knife, handed it to Amber, and then grabbed the fruit that had whacked his head, gulping down a large mouthful.
Amber, looking at the fruit in her hands, hesitated for a moment but decided to drink for the sake of survival.
The flavor was surprisingly good; after finishing, she felt a bit of residue at the corners of her mouth and instinctively licked it off with her tongue.
“I don’t know if there will be another storm; we need to find a place to take shelter from the wind and rain.”
Lu Ban looked up at the clear sky. In places where warm and cold currents met, the weather was unpredictable, let alone considering that last night’s storm had been caused by the Shrine Maiden’s ‘Word Spirit.’
Moreover, there were other matters that worried Lu Ban.
[Found hostile invading Chosen by Gods: 1/2]
[Killed hostile invading Chosen by Gods: 1/2]
Clearly, there were two invaders Chosen by the Gods, of whom one had already been thrown into the sea by Lu Ban to feed the tentacled shadows, while the other seemed to have escaped the shadows’ attack, or was not on the boat in the first place, and was still alive.
In normal circumstances, such an accident would make it hard to believe that Amber was still alive at sea.
However, the invaders who are Chosen by the Gods have task prompts, and it was clear that they knew Amber was still alive, so they were likely to send someone to hunt her down, if not take matters into their own hands.
Compared to wilderness survival, other Chosen by the Gods posed a greater threat.
After simply gathering some fallen leaves and branches for a fire, Lu Ban was studying the island’s location when he noticed Amber looking around anxiously.
“Did you find something?”
Lu Ban grew tense.
Perhaps the Shrine Maiden’s perception was different from normal people and she could detect something Lu Ban couldn’t.
Seeing Lu Ban approach, Amber appeared even more startled and awkwardly turned her face away with embarrassment.
“Is there a problem with your body? Let me check.”
Thinking it might be a wound infected by the sea water or something she ate that harmed her delicate stomach, Lu Ban, with the idea of early detection and early treatment, moved closer to help Amber check her body.
“No, it’s not that!”
Amber took two steps back.
“Toilet…”
She muttered quietly.
“?”
A question mark appeared above his head.
So, Shrine Maidens also need to use the toilet? He had thought such ascetics would have learned to convert food into vital energy and chakra or something, storing it as energy.
After all, Lu Ban himself hardly needed to excrete anymore, as the residuals of his digestion could become fertilizer for photosynthesis. As long as there was sunlight, water, and nutrients, he could cycle them internally without any excess carbon emissions, which was quite environmentally friendly. Even a certain environmental princess from Northern Europe couldn’t find fault with him on that.
“There are bushes over there.”
Lu Ban pointed to a spot near the woods.
“?”
Amber paused, her face turning red.
“Because human excrement might pollute the water source and food, it’s best to designate a separate area for that…”
Lu Ban hadn’t finished speaking when Amber hit him with a piece of wood she picked up from the ground.
She then ran off and disappeared into the bushes.
“What a pity, that was actually very practical wilderness survival knowledge.”
Lu Ban said with regret.
He caught a few fish with Laika, and using wilderness survival knowledge he’d seen on TV, prepared a device for collecting fresh water. He knocked down a couple of fruits, planning to make a soup to replenish nutrients and fluids and to warm the body.
After doing all this, Lu Ban saw Amber return with her face still red.
“Right, I didn’t finish earlier, but you should cover your waste after you’re done. The special smell might attract predators, so it should be buried under sand. The spot I pointed out earlier is downwind, and the sea breeze will quickly disperse the smell. If you don’t know how to bury it, I can help you later…”
Smack—
Lu Ban’s head was hit by a wooden stick again.
He didn’t understand why Amber was acting like this, perhaps the pressure of surviving on the deserted island was too much.
At dusk, after enjoying the delicious fish and soup cooked with shells, Lu Ban was studying the stars when he heard some peculiar sounds.
The sound seemed to come from deep within the island.
That sound, it was like… people?
