I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 337 - 337 336. Word Spirit_1

Chapter 337: 336. Word Spirit_1 Chapter 337: 336. Word Spirit_1 Thump, thump, thump—

Lu Ban knocked gently on the door, and quickly received a response from the maid.

“Please come in.”

He pushed the door open and entered Amber’s room.

Compared to the other rooms on the ship, this one was obviously more luxurious, with silk drapes, the bedding, various metal utensils, and even a painting of flowers and birds. There was none of the damp, musty smell typical of ships; instead, a hint of incense in the air had a calming effect on the mind.

Amber’s maid was a girl of similar age to her, only with a more outward display of emotions and a bit of an arrogant air.

As for Amber herself, she was in her witch costume, sitting kneeling on the bed with her eyes closed, deep in meditation.

“Lady Priestess, we have been attacked on both sides, and there’s also the torrential rain that may have been caused by the technique. The captain sent me to ask for your help,”

Lu Ban tentatively made his request.

If this thunderstorm was created by a shrine maiden, then Amber, as a shrine maiden herself, should logically be able to stop it all, right?

If she couldn’t even handle this, then her reputation as a prodigy might not be well-deserved.

“I understand.”

Amber, whose eyes had been closed all this time, finally opened them.

Within the amber depths of her eyes, Lu Ban saw flames flickering.

She got up from the bed and, on wooden clogs, walked to the window and pushed it open.

Bang—

Ferocious wind carrying raindrops burst into the room, soaking Amber’s hair and clothes.

But the flames in her eyes seemed to burn even brighter.

Lu Ban heard Amber chanting something under her breath. That voice, much like the irritating, headache-inducing, madness-provoking murmur of the Evil God he’d heard countless times before.

The maid by her side covered her ears and stepped back, her brow furrowed.

The next moment, just as Lu Ban was beginning to doubt Amber’s power, a flash of light fell from the dark clouds.

The dense clouds were parted by the light. Lu Ban looked up to see the clear sky and stars above the light.

This light enveloped both ships, and wherever it reached, the churning seawater calmed.

The light spread rapidly, extending to the surrounding sea. The sky seemed as though it had been punctured, and the hole was being stretched open by fingers, replacing the violent, irritating atmosphere with tranquility and calm, like a noisy baby soothed by its mother’s lullaby.

Amber’s voice grew louder.

The overlapping murmurs made the maid leave the room outright, while Lu Ban listened to them. He didn’t understand the words, but he could still grasp a certain mood conveyed by the language.

It was as if it were communicating.

According to what Red Leaf had told Lu Ban before, the extraordinary powers of He Dao were comprised of techniques and word spirits.

Technique was the spell, the use of a certain method to construct a space and to dominate and control it.

Word spirit was an oath, using language to bind promises and agreements with others.

Right now, Amber was probably communicating with the sea.

Lu Ban could feel a tremor from the depths of the ocean, and even the sky was stabilized by Amber’s words.

He looked outside the window, and amidst the swaying wind and rain, he saw several flashes of light on the opposite warship.

“Cannon fire!”

The next moment, several loud explosions sounded around the fleet.

“How is this possible?”

In the captain’s quarters of the flagship, the captain from He Dao wore an expression of disbelief.

“This is the storm created jointly by at least twenty semi-witch level dignitaries. Can she really contend with it all on her own?”

The captain found it utterly incomprehensible.

He even began to waver.

Was their attack on this Chief Priestess candidate really the right thing to do?

Under such formidable power, should they really have fired their cannons?

However, the person beside them simply pushed the captain aside.

“Calibrate the cannons, prepare for a test fire,” Lei Ting ordered, holding the secret decree of the one in power. He and his companion now possessed authority surpassing the captain, allowing them to command the entire fleet.

The first mate didn’t dare to disobey. In his eyes, these two strange individuals, draped in bandages and exhibiting bizarre behavior, were immensely powerful and held supreme authority—no one could defy them.

The bow cannons fired quickly, with the shots landing near those two ships, but not close enough.

“Full speed ahead, all cannons at the ready, prepare for a second round of shooting,” Lei Ting commanded again.

“The enemy is nothing but a user of some trivial sorcery, nothing to fear,” Lei Ting added, in an effort to steady the crew’s nerves.

Although everyone had already understood that their target was a competitor for the Chief Priestess, such nominal rhetoric served as an excuse used by many to deceive themselves.

The fleet surged forward, slicing through the waves, with the second round of cannon fire soon ready.

Three battleships approached from the side, exposing their twenty-three side rotary cannons, and in the barrage of over sixty volleys, even if the accuracy of these cannons was worse than that of a seventy-year-old man, some shots were bound to hit.

The four battleships on the other side also drew closer to the convoy, likewise preparing for combat.

An unfavorable ratio of two against seven—a situation to be absolutely avoided in naval battles of this era.

“Fire at will,” Lei Ting gave the order.

As the cannons roared, countless black projectiles burst from the sides, falling towards the big ship flying the Sakura Island Flag in graceful parabolas.

At the same time, the large and small ship also unleashed their volley of cannon fire.

After a brief silence, the explosions outdid the roar of the thunderstorm, resounding over the ocean surface.

Boom, boom, boom—

Many cannonballs plunged into the sea, exploding in the shallow waters, throwing up towering sprays of water.

Some of the cannonballs, however, hit the ships.

The wooden hull was pierced by the tremendous impact force, followed by explosions, with wood fragments and human screams, blood and limbs scattered into the sea.

Lei Ting saw that at least ten cannonballs had struck the enemy’s flagship. Such damage was not enough to sink it, but the area covered by sunlight was expanding, and he did not want to engage in a face-to-face battle with the Chosen by Gods on the other side. He hoped to resolve the matter from behind the scenes through the means of war.

Suddenly, Lei Ting noticed a problem with an allied ship nearby.

A shadow leaped from the water, entering the ship’s hull.

Then, an explosion erupted from within that ship, setting off sympathetic detonations near the yet-unfired cannons. Together with screams and wails of agony, within the time of two volleys, the ship was engulfed in raging flames.

“Is it the Chosen by Gods?” Lei Ting grew alert.

“I’ll go check it out.”

Flash, unable to contain himself any longer, was preparing to examine the situation, but Lei Ting pointed at the flagship, which had already been hit several times, its mainmast nearly toppling over.

“No, board the ship directly, and ensure the witch is killed,” Lei Ting said.

To Lei Ting, the other Chosen by Gods were not important. As long as they could complete the mission first here, they could choose to return.

The rest were inconsequential.

“No problem,” Flash responded with a light chuckle, then transformed into a cloud of smoke and flew out the window.
