I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 336 - 336 335.Enemy Attack_1

Chapter 336: 335.Enemy Attack_1 Chapter 336: 335.Enemy Attack_1 “Indeed, the other party is nearby, able to observe an increase in our ship’s speed,”

“He’s asked me to find a way to slow the ship down, which means they can’t catch up to us here.”

“Is he afraid of exposing himself because he lacks the capability for direct combat?”

Lu Ban quickly summed up a few points and managed to trick the guard with the same act as yesterday, convincing him to leave.

Based on the current situation, Lu Ban felt that he could simply keep accelerating indefinitely to end this.

If the enemy’s ship couldn’t keep up with his speed, and even if there were blockades ahead, the fleet could rely on high velocity to break free quickly, reaching the destination.

Of course, one of Lu Ban’s missions was to eliminate other Chosen by Gods who had invaded this world; if he continued this way, he might have to wait for an opportunity after landing.

No big deal.

Lu Ban harbored a deep respect for the seas of this world.

A sea that nurtures such delicious fish must not be underestimated.

If they encountered extreme adverse weather conditions which made it impossible to determine their course or control the ship, his added speed would be like a headless fly—after all, acceleration does not navigate, it can’t always point toward the destination.

However, just as the enemy Chosen by Gods’ plans couldn’t keep up with changes, Lu Ban’s plans also didn’t keep up with changes.

The storm came unannounced.

It began on the evening of the fourth day after leaving Daffodil Island, as the sea started to grow restless.

The stars were no longer visible, replaced by dark, thick clouds. Peals of thunder sounded intermittently, causing the ship to resonate.

Lu Ban saw, ahead, the ocean churn as if boiling water. The dark waters seemed malicious, instilling a sense of weariness.

Deep purple lightning flickered within the clouds, the waves grew increasingly taller. Soon, small boats at the forefront could be seen tossing in the waves, struggling to maintain their course.

Although Lu Ban could make it speed forward, it was difficult to control its direction under the surging waves; sometimes, speed was not an advantage.

“Is the weather always this severe around here?”

In the captain’s cabin, looking at the beginning of the torrential rain and terrifying waves outside, Lu Ban asked.

“While there are many storms in the open sea, it’s rare for one to appear so suddenly,”

The captain, a middle-aged man in his forties with a scar on his face, clearly had been through his fair share of battles.

“Our course is plotted like this, reasoning that we would come closest to the Ashen Sea by tomorrow evening. Before that, we shouldn’t encounter a storm of this magnitude. The weather is abnormal; yesterday’s and today’s observations revealed nothing of the sort,”

He pointed to the sea chart. At the area just ahead of their course, a zone was covered by thick text—the Ashen Sea.

That area was said to be a forbidden zone, the place where “once burned Pure Fire” was extinguished. Although Lu Ban did not know why the Pure Fire had died, according to the captain, it was far more dangerous and terrifying than the borders and was an area all ships strived to avoid.

This was the end of the Narcissus Channel. Up ahead, the current would flow into the Ashen Sea. The ships merely needed to avoid the current, navigating carefully, entering the second half of the Qiushan Channel. In the latter half, pirates ravaged the seas; man-made disasters were far more frequent than natural ones.

Following Shobu’s line of reverse thinking, the rulers of the Great Shrine of Harmony Island would likely position the blockade fleet in the second half. That would allow them to obtain information, resupply, and even bribe those greedy pirates to launch attacks on the fleet on their behalf.

Of course, it was more likely that both sides would attack the fleet where the two channels intersected, forcing the ships into the Ashen Sea. In that area, the natural forces alone would make everything seem logical.

“Are you implying that this storm has appeared out of nowhere, as a result of some technique?”

Shobu was very alert.

“Impossible, impossible. Whoever can manipulate the weather to this extent, how could they not have come to official attention?”

The captain refuted immediately, but by the end, he, too, was at a loss for words.

The officials indeed—weren’t they being officially persecuted right now?

This was something the rulers of Harmony Island, those in command, and even the families from Sakura Island, like Amber’s, were acutely aware of.

The pursuit of Amber was not a conspiracy; it was an open secret.

If Amber couldn’t make it through this journey, then naturally, she would have no right to inherit the position of Chief Priestess.

What remained was just a matter of whether it would look good superficially or not.

On this unsupervised ocean, the distinction between justice and evil was not so clear-cut.

In fact, even the captain was merely gambling, just like Shobu.

It was a choice between drifting on the ocean, dying one day at the hands of monsters, pirates, or traitors, or taking a gamble to gain territory and land to live on forever.

In the midst of the storm, deep purple lightning struck.

Boom—

A particularly thick bolt of lightning fell from the sky into the ocean like a straight pillar, even after hitting the water and spreading countless silver branches due to conduction, it still did not extinguish.

Boom—

Another bolt of lightning struck, this time closer, and when the light faded, Lu Ban could even smell the scorched stench of sea creatures being burnt to a crisp.

“It would probably be delicious for grilling fish.”

Lu Ban remarked, drawing the eyes of Shobu and the captain.

“It’s Word Spirit; I don’t know what level of priest or shrine maiden they’ve activated, but it’s certainly not easy to deal with,”

Shobu muttered, looking at the continuous streaks of lightning.

Just then, a whistle blew from the deck.

The three moved to the window and looked toward the mast, which had already reeled in its sails.

On the lookout platform in the middle of the mast, a sailor was waving a flag and blowing a whistle at the same time.

In the past few days, Lu Ban had learned a bit of semaphore, and with his rudimentary knowledge, the message conveyed by the flags was quite simple.

“Enemy attack!”

The captain donned his hat, strapped on his cutlass and musket, and stepped out of his cabin.

Lu Ban and Shobu followed closely behind, stepping out of the cabin into the drenching downpour that formed a dense curtain of rain, obscuring everything, leaving one unable to see the distance.

At that moment, a bolt of lightning struck, illuminating the whole world.

Lu Ban saw that at the end of the horizon, the silhouettes of three ship’s sails were slowly rising against the backdrop of thunder.

Ships appearing at this time were one hundred percent the enemy.

“Laika, go!”

With a command from Lu Ban, Laika on the deck dived into the sea. Where people couldn’t see, its obedient Corgi appearance was gone, replaced by a bloodthirsty Hunter form covered in tentacles and eyes. In the water, it swam towards those three ships, forming the first line of defense.

Then, with another peal of thunder, the three saw that in the direction the ship was heading, four more warships appeared.

They were surrounded.

On the masts of those warships, flickering lights likewise transmitted signals, and this time Lu Ban didn’t even need to decipher them.

It was certainly a signal to commence battle.

“Raise the flag of Sakura Island, everyone prepare for battle, move the cannonballs out from the storage, ladies, it’s time to prove you’re men.”

The captain shouted, causing the sailors who were still reinforcing the deck to get even busier.

After he finished speaking, he turned to look at Lu Ban and Shobu.

“Would the two of you mind accompanying Lady Priestess? Hopefully she can help us.”

“This would also be helping herself.”
