I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 313 - 313 312. Main Theme_1
Chapter 313: 312. Main Theme_1 Chapter 313: 312. Main Theme_1 As the credits song played, Lex pondered for a moment.
The movie was actually not perfect.
Although the second half had strong scenes, the plot followed a conventional, heroic narrative of self-sacrifice to buy time, culminating in reinforcements arriving to defeat the enemy, without breaking much new ground.
But sometimes, a conventional story is just what can make you feel exhilarated.
Even though Lex knew from the actions and words of the Mage earlier in the story that he might eventually sacrifice himself, and even though he could guess that reinforcements would surely arrive later, when he actually saw these scenes unfold, his emotions were still stirred, and he couldn’t help but feel excited by the plot.
Even more, Lex felt that this plot was especially thrilling, as it made his heart race like he was right there in the fortress.
When the Mage sacrificed himself, Lex truly felt the sadness, clenching his fists in the dark, and when the horn rang out, he truly felt a sense of redemption.
As the credits song ended, the projection room fell into darkness, lit only by the glow of the player’s interface on everyone’s face.
No one could speak, no one could make a judgment.
Because all the reviews were written on their faces.
Without a doubt, the movie had reached an exceptionally high standard, whether it was the plot, special effects, or performances.
Moreover, the cultural connotations of the movie were not of the traditional hero saving the world but more like all of humanity working together to resist a natural disaster.
It wouldn’t make a difference if Winter Wolf and Demonic Tide were replaced with floods and earthquakes.
The film showcased the indomitable spirit and tenacious will of humanity when faced with adversity.
For Lex and the others, this was extremely shocking.
Western movies, especially those from Hollywood, whether they are heroic epics or disaster films, mostly focus on a specific protagonist.
Whether it’s a comet striking Earth, a landslide and tsunami, or even an Alien attack on Earth, there’s usually a rugged male hero who steps up for his family and saves the world.
If a meteor is falling, they send a team led by the protagonist to blow it up, if there are problems at the core of the Earth, they send a team led by the protagonist to detonate it, if Godzilla is destroying the city, they send a team led by the protagonist to blow up Godzilla; when in doubt, just have the protagonist blow it up and that’s that.
And it often happens that the whole world watches as only the protagonist saves the world, as though all others are useless and only the hero can solve the problem.
This kind of individual heroism is the main theme in Europe and America.
But “Magic Tide” displayed a picture of humanity working together to fight against foreign invaders, and in this movie, while there were individual scenes of fighting monsters, it was really the vast sea of people that secured the victory.
For someone like Lex, born and bred in Europe and America, this was hard to understand.
According to his thinking, it would probably be that one Mage charging out to turn the tide, defeating the Winter Wolf all by himself before his comrades arrived to eradicate the rest of the fleeing wolves.
This action of one person charging alone, only causing a minor injury to the Winter Wolf and losing his own life in the process, was incomprehensible to him.
More importantly, after he went up, others followed one after another, charging forward as well; this style of battle upended Lex’s imagination.
Isn’t individual life important?
As he felt shocked, he also fell into deep thought.
“This movie, I don’t know how to describe it, but it truly moved me,”
Lais sniffled.
It was rare for such a purely fantastical movie to evoke such a strong emotional response in him these days. Even the pride of Hollywood’s recent films, which were mostly modern urban crime dramas or reflected social issues, or mass-produced superhero movies like canned products, no longer moved him, an old producer.
But now, the things reflected in this movie had truly made him think.
Whenever he thought of those scenes in the movie where everyone worked together in solidarity, as if they were bound by a common destiny, fighting against natural disasters, Lais felt his scalp tingle.
In Europe and America, which value freedom and individualism, such behavior of sacrificing personal interests for the sake of the collective is extremely rare.
Yet through this film, that sentiment was genuinely conveyed to Lais’s mind.
He now even began to feel that the sense of everyone working together was invigorating, very exciting.
No matter who it was, anyone would want to fight side by side with their companions like in the movie, to charge into battle, and the thought of this made Lais’s blood boil.
After working for so many years, his heart, which had become indifferent due to socializing and networking, began to grow restless.
“This movie is definitely going to be a huge hit, I’m a hundred percent certain!”
Justin, also a director, had keenly sensed the smell of business. In this era, such a movie could definitely rake in massive box office returns and capture the hearts of the audience.
You see, many viewers nowadays go to the cinema just to have a blast, to see the special effects, the action, to see those stars, that’s all.
Some action blockbusters have no logical plot, cars suddenly fly off into space, and some movies distort classic masterpieces beyond recognition due to political correctness.
Even many viewers in Europe and America have their criticisms of the current state of the movie industry.
And here comes “Magic Tide,” a movie that satisfies all the needs of contemporary audiences, its box office is bound to be high!
One could say, just the special effects alone are worth the price of admission.
“Lex, you’d better handle this movie personally, strive to get exclusive screening rights for your theater chain. If you can secure that, you might just set a new box office record,” Amritage said calmly, thinking of commercial prospects after feeling the shock brought by the movie.
Normally, movies are released across all theater chains, but sometimes, theaters might offer concessions and in turn demand exclusive rights to screen a film, just like exclusive rights on websites.
And with a movie like “Magic Tide,” Amritage felt that even with normal promotion, its box office wouldn’t be less than five hundred million US dollars, and with some additional marketing, reaching one billion US dollars wasn’t impossible.
Such box office returns, if not rare, were at least a major achievement.
Moreover, when it came to importing movies, the theaters sat back and reaped the profits; securing exclusive rights was a surefire win.
“I understand, I understand…”
Lex also realized the gravity of the situation.
He immediately stood up, grabbed his phone, and prepared to contact his subordinate, Thomas Lee.
While he was making the call, the other three pulled out their phones and searched for information related to Lu Ban.
But on English websites, information on Lu Ban was scarce.
“Hold on, I see that this director has two other movie works, although they weren’t released here. Some forums have uploaded subtitled versions by English translation groups,” Justin said excitedly.
“Should we maybe watch his other works?”
He suggested.
