Chapter 298: 297. Another Chosen by Gods_1 Chapter 298: 297. Another Chosen by Gods_1 “The Temple…”
Lu Ban muttered the word as he walked toward the dark crypt’s entrance.
Although he could only make out the scenery on the road faintly when lightning flashed, it didn’t matter to Lu Ban; his “True Sight” now allowed him to clearly see everything around him without missing anything.
The murals on both sides of the passageway also became clear with the revival of the city, depicting the king who ruled the island, his control over the people, rituals, and festivities, similar to the Nameless City in the Wasteland.
“Silence is one of the Divine Beings. He created the Silent Lands, or rather, he controls these several Foreign Domains, and then chose us to complete the tasks He gave us within the spacetime of the Foreign Domain?”
Lu Ban asked in a low voice as he continued to descend.
Now, his voice couldn’t reach the outside; one might say he was physically isolated from the world.
“You could think of it that way.”
Feng Yu’s voice sounded calm, and Lu Ban didn’t know what kind of change she had gone through when she first learned this knowledge.
“Then, are there other Divine Beings in this world, on the same level as Silence, who also have their own Chosen by Gods?”
Lu Ban went on to ask.
“That’s correct.”
Feng Yu’s words echoed in Lu Ban’s ears, like a newlywed wife whispering tenderly beside her husband.
“These Chosen by Gods, following other Divine Beings’ wills, could they become my enemies?”
Lu Ban thought of the most realistic issue.
Feng Yu did not give an answer because it was self-evident.
Conflicts between Divine Beings are not like human disputes, which are merely extensions of politics; there are no negotiations, compromises, tedious peace, or deterrence. Most of the time, it ends only when one side is completely annihilated or utterly sealed.
Thus, the Chosen by different Divine Beings are, theoretically, enemies.
In the tasks Lu Ban was currently undertaking, many involved investigating traces of Evil Gods, resisting disasters caused by them, and dealing with Indescribable creatures. Although he couldn’t say he was always doing good deeds, at least he hadn’t done any disastrously evil deeds.
But the other Chosen by Gods…
Lu Ban suppressed the thoughts in his mind and continued forward.
The deeper he went, the more bizarre the content of the murals became. If the earlier sections depicted traditional primitive religious societies, slave societies, or feudal governance, the later parts showed strange, inconceivable scenes beyond understanding.
There were giant tentacles and eyeballs in the Deep Sea, oddly shaped cities, and humanoid creatures with fierce appearances. There were also dazzling starscapes, distant cosmos and nebulae. The patterns of those stars seemed familiar to Lu Ban, resembling the Star Cluster he had seen through the Gale Wind.
The deeper he descended, the more it felt like diving into the Deep Sea, the environment growing more oppressive, with the images on the murals gradually transforming into the obscure depths and the boundless starry sky.
At this moment, the Deep Sea was synonymous with the starscape, and the starscape was the Deep Sea.
“What is buried here?”
Suddenly, Lu Ban felt a breeze blowing straight at him.
It was a sea breeze.
The fishy and moist sea breeze tried to infiltrate Lu Ban’s nostrils but was blocked by Feng Yu’s power. True Sight provided Lu Ban with this information. As he moved forward, he saw a glimmer of light.
He stepped into the glow.
Lu Ban saw that the scenery around him suddenly changed.
Sunlight, blinding sunlight spilled across the land, a world starkly different from the storm he had passed through, except the air turned even chillier, with temperatures seeming to drop below zero.
Lu Ban saw an island before him.
It would be more accurate to say it was a city rather than an island.
This city resembled the Nan Madol Ruins, possessing oddly structured skyscrapers and obelisks, yet it was denser and more towering, as if it were a lost city that had lain on the ocean floor for millions of years, only to finally see the light of day.
Lu Ban turned his head and looked towards the surrounding sea of the city.
The ocean was calm and tranquil, devoid of any signs of a storm.
No.
Lu Ban lifted his head and saw the sunlight and azure sky forming a circular shape. On the periphery of the circle was a towering wall made of pure white, flawless clouds.
These walls enveloped the area, creating an absolutely silent space.
It was evident to Lu Ban at first glance that this was the eye of a typhoon.
The eye of the typhoon has the lowest atmospheric pressure, also featuring the coldest temperature in the typhoon area, with the wind speed nearing zero. The more violent the storm, the calmer the eye.
Lu Ban estimated that the island was precisely in the center of the eye of the storm.
It was reasonable to suspect that the sudden arrival of the typhoon to Pohnpei Island was due to the emergence of this island.
He then glanced around once more.
A ship.
It hardly took any time for Lu Ban to realize that this was the Star Cluster.
The cruise ship was now floating serenely at sea, its hull covered in patchy rust and adorned with some seaweed and barnacles, as if it had just been salvaged from underwater.
The ship was slowly moving towards the city, but perhaps due to the lack of power, its speed was incredibly slow, raising concerns about whether it could reach its destination before the storm moved.
Before that, Lu Ban heard a voice.
It was some foreign language, one he had never heard before.
However, Feng Yu soon translated the words.
“It should be on that island, we must hurry to break the Seal before the storm arrives,”
The voice belonged to a man. Lu Ban turned around and saw a person standing behind him.
The man was draped in a gray cloak. Although most of his facial features resembled a human’s, he had four eyes.
Two eyes were on each side, located where human eyes typically would be. Those eyes were narrow, like slits, giving off an eerie sensation.
“■■■■■.”
Another voice came from the entrance of the ship’s cabin, apparently in yet another language.
Feng Yu kindly translated it again.
“This thing has no power; we can’t move it,”
Lu Ban looked in that direction, and there was another humanoid, or humanoid-like creature. The creature’s entire body was wrapped in black bandages, appearing withered and thin. Its face was shrouded in a dark mist, with a single eye shining a bright green light.
“Are we supposed to swim over?”
A third voice spoke up beside Lu Ban.
He looked over, and it was a creature resembling a merman, with sticky, wet, dark green skin. Its vertical-pupil eyes were observing the island. Its body was covered with scales, and its hands and feet had fin-like structures, along with a long fish tail, suggesting it was likely an adept swimmer.
These three “people” appeared to be Chosen by Gods from other Divine Beings.
“Breaking the Seal?”
Listening to their conversation, Lu Ban sensed something was amiss.
If these individuals were indeed Chosen by Gods, then they must have been sent here on a mission, and from their conversation, it seemed like their objective might be to… break some kind of Seal of an Evil God?
