I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 287 - 287 286. Ive explained everything to you _1
Chapter 287: 286. I’ve explained everything to you _1 Chapter 287: 286. I’ve explained everything to you _1 Three days later, at the tail end of May, Lu Ban received a call from Thomas Lee.
“Mr. Lu, I’ve seen your movie,”
With the first sentence, Lu Ban already knew the purpose of this call.
“How do you feel about it?”
Lu Ban was neither hurried nor slow.
“I… I don’t understand, but I’m greatly shocked. Your film is truly astonishing. I’ve never, ever seen such a unique horror movie. It’s as if I was there myself. Those special effects—I never knew domestic effect teams could produce such effects…”
Thomas Lee was still somewhat in a daze.
“Forgive my boldness, Mr. Lee, but which one did you watch?”
Lu Ban asked.
“I’ve seen them all, Mr. Lu. I’ve watched both of your movies, and your earlier works too. For these works, I just want to say, genius, simply genius. It’s hard to imagine someone could actually create such films.”
Thomas Lee was not stingy with his words of praise.
“You’ve seen them all… Then that reaction is indeed quite severe.”
Lu Ban murmured to himself.
“What?”
“No, nothing, I’m glad you could enjoy my movies,”
Lu Ban responded with thanks.
“…Actually, it wasn’t much of enjoyment, but that tingling feeling on my scalp and the relaxation afterward made me feel exhilarating. Perhaps that’s the meaning behind people’s pursuit of horror movies.”
Thomas Lee seemed to still be savoring the experience.
“Yes, in fact, when humans are frightened or threatened, adrenaline levels rise, creating a sense of tension. Correspondingly, when the crisis is over, the brain releases substances that provide comfort, easing the previous tension. This substance is usually unattainable, so the experience derived from watching horror movies is unique.”
Lu Ban explained.
In reality, rather than such esoteric reasoning, Lu Ban preferred to believe that when faced with something terrifying, beyond comprehension, human Sanity would be reduced to some extent. In the process of reducing Sanity, various symptoms of mental Pollution would arise.
But when Sanity is lowered, people’s tolerance to terrifying things increases, hence, the body can relax, and that is the source of this feeling.
Lu Ban called it a sense of relief.
“Your study on the theory of horror movies is really in-depth. I admit that I hadn’t investigated thoroughly before and hadn’t recognized the value of your work, Mr. Lu. So I would like to introduce your new movie as well as the previous ones.”
Thomas Lee revealed his request.
“That’s completely doable,”
Lu Ban saw no reason to refuse.
The two arranged a time and finalized the details for the introduction. In terms of the revenue split, Lu Ban received the original proportion and did not give the theatres any extra share. As for the number of screenings, it had not been finalized yet, but the contract guaranteed a minimum of five percent of the screenings.
To secure a higher number of screenings, they would have to wait until Lu Ban’s film was completed and the theatre parties had verified the quality of the master copy.
For Lu Ban, this kind of business negotiation was far more taxing than making movies.
If his own quality was up to par, that was fine. If not, all kinds of wheeling and dealing, negotiations, and exchanges of interests would truly be tormenting.
June approached, with college entrance exams looming and the weather turning hot.
Strangely enough, it always seemed to rain heavily during the college entrance exams in Jiangcheng.
Lu Ban lifted his head from the computer and looked at the staff of Silent Media, who were working hard.
Just as Lu Ban had predicted, those who could withstand the stimulation of his shorts surely had lost a significant amount of their Sanity. Facing the clips of Night Country’s Demonic Tide, they might show some symptoms in the short term, but they adapted quickly.
“Although time is tight, don’t push yourself too hard. Learn to balance work with leisure,”
Lu Ban patted the shoulder of an employee next to him. Everyone had dark circles under their eyes, probably from overexertion at work.
Only Qin Tiantian at reception had no dark circles and was still very energetic.
“How did you die again? Can’t you play at all?”
She had just been killed in-game and was raging helplessly in front of the screen.
Although Qin Tiantian seemed to do nothing but play games there, the effect was actually quite good.
When those who came to solicit or harbored bad intentions got close and saw Qin Tiantian’s hysterical gaming performance, they would subconsciously assume that this place was some sort of asylum for the mentally ill.
Preparing for the next game, Qin Tiantian had just put on her headphones when she saw a somewhat familiar person standing at the door.
Her gaze moved upwards, and she saw Feng Yu.
She was dressed in a dress, draped with a small vest, lace socks, and black leather shoes, looking like she had just returned from a trip somewhere.
“Feng Yu, what brings you here?”
Qin Tiantian stopped her ranked match, stood up, and passed a bag of opened chips to her.
“Want some chips?”
“No need, thank you. Where’s Lu Ban?”
“Him? Working inside, I guess.”
Qin Tiantian pointed inside the office.
Feng Yu walked into the office, with Qin Tiantian following to join the buzz.
As a girl entered, several employees of Silent Media craned their necks, curiously looking over.
Feng Yu came up beside Lu Ban, who was wearing headphones, and patiently watched him work for a while. When he reached a stopping point, she finally spoke up.
“Your company seems pretty nice, huh.”
At the sound of Feng Yu’s voice, Lu Ban subconsciously minimized all his windows, revealing the computer’s desktop. He took off his headphones and turned around.
“What brings you here?”
Lu Ban looked surprised.
“Just finished a bit of work and thought I’d come by.”
Feng Yu cast a glance around Lu Ban’s company.
“It looks quite nice. Are you guys hiring? Maybe consider me?”
“We are, definitely, but we’re peers, aren’t we? It wouldn’t be quite appropriate for you to be an employee.”
Lu Ban posed a serious question.
“So it’s appropriate for me to be your employee? Aren’t we peers too?”
Qin Tiantian suddenly interjected from the side.
“A mascot is pretty much on the same level as the boss,” explained Lu Ban.
The employees on the side were practically spilling gossip from their eyes. In some small groups, they began exchanging gossip about Lu Ban.
[River Beaver]: Who is this woman?
[Little White]: Could she be Director Lu’s girlfriend? Wife? Secretly married? Could it be that Director Lu even has a child? Is he, by any chance, a third-generation son-in-law to Jiangcheng Industries?
[Lemon]: You’re overthinking it. I think she’s just the girlfriend.
[Meatball]: What??? I’ve always thought our receptionist was Director Lu’s girlfriend, given that she plays games all day without working, and Director Lu doesn’t say a word. Plus, they often go home together.
[Woody]: Could she be here to catch a cheater? Is there a show to watch?
Although everyone seemed to be doing their own thing, they were actually inattentive, covertly listening to the conversation over at Lu Ban’s side.
“How about dinner together tonight?” asked Feng Yu.
“Sure, no problem,” nodded Lu Ban. It was normal for Feng Yu to ask him out for dinner.
“Are you coming too?” Feng Yu looked at Qin Tiantian again.
“Okay, this time let Lu Ban treat us. There’s a restaurant I’ve always wanted to try…” Qin Tiantian didn’t hesitate, pulling out her phone and searching through a review app.
The chatter in the employee groups picked up again.
[Orange]: Something’s off, the two of them seem pretty harmonious. Doesn’t look like she’s here to catch a cheater.
[Meatball]: Could it be that Director Lu is so charming that both girls have fallen for him?
[River Beaver]: If I had Director Lu’s talent and wealth, I might be charming too.
[Little White]: They’re getting ready to leave!
Employees looked up to see Lu Ban was already packing up, preparing to leave work early.
“You all can head home early today too. Tomorrow is the college entrance exam, so get some rest,” Lu Ban waved his hand.
After Lu Ban left, the group chats started to buzz once more.
[Lemon]: College entrance exam? Did I hear something wrong?
[Woody]: I get it, this woman is a high school teacher, coming to see Director Lu today because of the college entrance exams tomorrow. She must be Director Lu’s girlfriend!
[Orange]: Only you would have reading comprehension skills like that, interpreting everything for us.
[Little White]: Let’s not talk about this. Shall we go out for a nice meal tonight ourselves?
The group unanimously agreed.
