I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 284 - 284 283. Personal Accident Insurance_1
Chapter 284: 283. Personal Accident Insurance_1 Chapter 284: 283. Personal Accident Insurance_1 The next day, Bai Qiquan arrived at the company.
To his surprise, he had been worried the previous night, fearing that something strange would pop out from under the bed or somewhere else to kill him, but he hadn’t seen anything by the time he fell asleep.
Instead, the soreness and back pain he had slept on in the dorm’s hard bed seemed to have eased off a lot after spending the night in the new house. He felt refreshed, as if he had just changed into new underwear to welcome the morning of the New Year.
“This mattress isn’t bad, probably one of those massage mattresses that can promote sleep. The pillow must also be some kind of high-tech therapeutic pillow that makes it hard for people to be easily woken up.”
He’d ask Director Lu when he had the chance and get a set for his girlfriend as well.
Bai Qiquan thought to himself.
Inside the company, it was still a ghost town; even the reception was unmanned, empty.
But Bai Qiquan felt that someone had already come by. Perhaps it was the cleaning lady?
He sat down at his workstation and took out his laptop.
Those in the film and television industry seem to prefer Fruits computers, not for showing off but rather because the accompanying software is well-developed, and when it comes to video processing, Fruits computers indeed possess some unique technologies. While they might not be great for gaming, they are pretty handy for video work.
Lu Ban spared no expense and had allocated a brand-new one to Bai Qiquan.
He had tried installing games on it the previous night. It could run them, but it also got seriously hot.
You could say it worked, but it wasn’t necessary.
Bai Qiquan promptly uninstalled the games cleanly and thoroughly.
As he sat in the office waiting, Bai Qiquan saw an older man walk in.
“I’m here for the new job, are you HR?”
The man asked, seeing Bai Qiquan’s employee-like demeanor.
“…Actually, I’m also here to start a new job,”
Bai Qiquan said awkwardly.
“Hm?”
The man was momentarily stumped and pretended to admire the scenery, pulling up a chair to sit down.
After a while, an older-looking woman entered the company’s doors.
“Excuse me, whom should I see for the onboarding process?”
She looked towards the two men sitting opposite each other.
“We’re both here to start new jobs,”
Bai Qiquan and the man responded at once.
The scene repeated several times, and Bai Qiquan realized many people present were strangers to him, the kind whose names he had not even heard before.
In their circle, unlike common audience members who only recognize directors, producers, and scriptwriters, those in well-known positions like cinematographers and post-production staff are very famous.
Considering the salary that Lu Ban was paying, Bai Qiquan thought that those famous for cinematography and post-production would be within reach. He didn’t understand why Lu Ban hadn’t chosen them, which was quite strange.
Could it be there was something special about the people here?
Could I actually be the hidden big shot?
Bai Qiquan couldn’t help but speculate wildly.
At half-past nine, Director Lu finally arrived on time.
He was carrying a bunch of files, while Qin Tiantian came empty-handed, as if she was just there for a visit.
“For now, you’ll fill in as the receptionist, okay? You can play games and watch videos,”
Director Lu pointed to the reception desk.
“Wasn’t I the image spokesperson? How did I end up as receptionist?”
“You see, when someone enters the company, the first person they see is you, doesn’t that make you the image spokesperson?”
Lu Ban said earnestly.
“Only a fool would believe what you say.”
Though Qin Tiantian complained verbally, she obediently took her place at the reception desk.
“Wow, this computer has some great specs, a 3090 too, I’ve decided, I’m the receptionist, no one else better fight me for this spot.”
Having settled Qin Tiantian in, Lu Ban walked into the office, greeted everyone briefly, and began to distribute contracts.
“Director Lu is actually hands-on with everything, it seems he values us highly.”
Bai Qiquan thought to himself, even the employment contract in front of him seemed much more serious.
He flipped through the contract and noticed that it included an additional accidental injury insurance.
“Hm?”
Bai Qiquan initially thought it was just common employee insurance provided by the company, including things like work-related injuries, but a closer look revealed something unusual.
“…Includes but is not limited to accidents caused by fire, earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, meteorite impacts, as well as man-made accidents such as car crashes, shipwrecks, plane crashes, and rocket falls…”
The list of injury clauses was so extensive that it was frightening, and in addition to common natural and man-made disasters, there were some conditions you would never encounter.
“Injuries caused by being eaten by wild beasts and similar creatures? And mental breakdowns due to hallucinations… Are we engaged in work that dangerous?”
Bai Qiquan couldn’t help but mutter to himself.
Just by looking at these insurances, he felt like his job wasn’t in the film industry, but rather something akin to a world-saving special forces team.
It couldn’t be that Lu Ban would suddenly pull out a strangely shaped stick and turn into light.
“These are all just precautions. You should know that although you primarily work in post-production, you might still encounter some unpleasant things, so the insurance needs to be spelled out in detail. Make sure your beneficiaries are clearly listed, and ensure they would receive the money if something happened to you,”
Lu Ban answered Bai Qiquan’s questions.
“Why does it feel like an incident is already assumed to happen?”
Bai Qiquan heard a brother next door grumble.
But, since Lu Ban was footing the bill, no one said much more about it and they all signed their names. I’m just editing a video, doing some post-production, could it be that a monster from the movie would jump out and eat me?
In addition, there were some standard contracts like non-disclosure agreements.
Once everything was signed, Lu Ban collected all the agreements.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the reason I’ve recruited you is that my next movie will require a lot of post-production work. I plan to release the movie globally between the second half of this year and the first half of next year, so we don’t have much time to spare,”
Lu Ban then said, glancing at Qin Tiantian; the mascot had already started playing APEX and had delivered two packages of loot.
“Hold on, with just six months, how can we possibly finish those levels of special effects with just the few of us?”
A man raised his hand to ask.
“Yeah, Director Lu, your previous effects were so impressive, we came here eager to learn, but to finish in such a short time, we’d need at least several times more manpower,”
A woman also chimed in.
Normal urban films only need a few months of post-production; period dramas with effects a bit longer; sci-fi and fantasy at least a year or more. And for the kind of effects seen in Director Lu’s previous movies, even a top team, fully committed, couldn’t produce them in less than a year or two.
Therefore, domestic special effects studios had always been curious about Director Lu’s production process, wondering where he got such talented special effects artists.
But now it seemed… Director Lu didn’t seem to have any special effects artists at all?
Or perhaps… he was the special effects artist himself?
“You don’t need to worry about that. The core parts are almost done on my end, you just need to handle some simple processing,”
Lu Ban said, pointing to the projection hall.
“Let’s first take a look at the raw footage and the effects.”
