Chapter 275: 274. Winter Wolf’s Pale Heart _1 Chapter 275: 274. Winter Wolf’s Pale Heart _1 “It’s so hot…”

Jonah took off his armor, revealing his well-toned upper body.

He looked towards the Dome Hall, where the flames of the Spirit Torch had been extinguished.

In the glare of the relentless sun, neither the Eternal Night nor the plague could come close to Black Fort.

Under the unprecedented assault of the Triple Demonic Tide, Black Fort managed surprisingly well.

Of course, there were problems.

The radiation range of the “Minor Calamity Generator” wasn’t large, encompassing only Black Fort and some nearby small fortresses; in other parts of the Black Forest, the battle against the Demonic Tide was still ongoing and, according to the messages Jonah received, the situation was grim.

Secondly, the scorching sun was also a catastrophe.

The parched earth, the fatal high temperatures—if it hadn’t been for the mages collectively praying for cooling spells and barriers after midnight last night, the troops at Black Fort would have likely perished from the sun’s heat sooner than from the Demonic Beasts.

It was now the third night since the arrival of the Blood Moon; the duration of the Demonic Tide was almost over, or rather, people hoped it was about to end.

Although the Frost had receded, the plague and Eternal Night remained a serious challenge, with all major fortresses engaging in a tug-of-war, vigilantly preventing the infiltration of the defenses by Eternal Night and the plague.

“We should be thankful we don’t have to deal with the Winter Wolf anymore.”

Another mage beside Jonah remarked.

Without the direct frontal assaults of the Winter Wolf causing damage to the fortresses, the harm inflicted by the plague and Eternal Night was limited, although many fortresses had already been damaged in earlier Winter Wolf attacks, giving both an opportunity.

“Gray Tower has a response plan. They will use a saturation attack of Eternal Sunlight in the areas severely affected by the disaster, hoping to slow down the advance of the Demonic Tide. By our estimates, we will lose one fifth of our land this time.”

Jonah said gravely.

Eternal Sunlight also needed the lives of mages to cast, similar to the Spirit Torch, but under current circumstances, reducing the advance speed of Eternal Night and the plague was key.

“What about him?”

The mage asked Jonah, naturally referring to Lu Ban.

“Don’t know, probably eating something.”

Jonah thought for a moment and walked towards the dining area.

Sure enough, there he saw a crowd of people surrounding Lu Ban.

The hero who had defeated the master of the Demonic Tide was voraciously devouring the food in his bowl, showing none of the airs of an important personage, but rather the ravenousness of a starving ghost from a past life.

“Are you really that hungry?”

Seeing this, Jonah couldn’t help but ask.

“I need to replenish nutrients, you understand?”

Lu Ban swallowed the bread and felt the nutrients in the food quickly converting into his own energy, a sensation wonderfully pleasant.

Once the crowd dispersed, Lu Ban stood up.

“How are things?”

He asked Jonah.

“The same as before, a war of attrition. We only hope the Demonic Tide will last for three days.”

Jonah was somewhat helpless.

“It will only last for three days.”

Lu Ban stated assuredly.

He didn’t tell Jonah that the countdown he saw in the System was indeed three days, and now, with just a few hours left until the end of the Demonic Tide, the mage took Lu Ban’s words as mere comfort.

“How’s your body?”

Jonah looked at Lu Ban, whose severe injuries from the previous day were now completely invisible. Jonah had examined Lu Ban’s wounds; they were wrapped in a special kind of plant with an incredibly fast healing rate, a rate of recovery Jonah had never seen before.

In his understanding, only those Chosen by Gods, those born under the watchful gaze of divinities, could possibly receive such blessings and wield extraordinary power.

As for the specifics, Jonah didn’t ask in detail. When others inquired, Jonah simply referred to it as a divine miracle.

For the soldiers of the present, rather than unsettling themselves by questioning Lu Ban’s secrets, it was more effective to attribute everything to the gods above and embellish the atmosphere with miracles.

“It’s no longer a problem,”

said Lu Ban, patting his chest.

“By the way, regarding the strategy against the Demonic Tide, I think we might be able to make some improvements.”

he added.

“Improvements?”

Jonah didn’t quite understand.

“Although Eternal Sunlight is very effective, it suffers from high consumption. If we could miniaturize it, or find some way to create a sunlight-like illumination to use as ammunition and launch it into the Demonic Tide, couldn’t that have a better effect?”

Lu Ban gestured as he spoke.

What he was talking about was not mere fantasy, but knowledge acquired from the Winter Wolf’s Pale Heart.

Had it been a common person, their mind would have been blown by the sheer volume of knowledge upon contact, receiving severe contamination.

But Lu Ban had no such problem.

Although those murmurs hadn’t finished and were still nagging in his ears like an old woman, Lu Ban felt it was bearable.

Among these murmurs, Lu Ban roughly understood a few things.

The origin of the Demonic Tide was indeed the Blood Moon; it was only during the Blood Moon that the Demonic Beasts possessed the power to descend upon the Night Country, and the Blood Moon was the result of the pollution from a grand entity.

The reason why the Demonic Beasts feared sunlight was also related to the Blood Moon; as soon as the Blood Moon’s radiance was overshadowed by a brighter light, the Demonic Beasts would rapidly lose vigor and become exceedingly fragile.

The effects of the Spirit Torch and Eternal Sunlight were essentially similar, both creating intense light to weaken the Blood Moon’s glow, thereby countering the Demonic Beasts.

And finally, the most important point.

The grand entity was sealed on the moon over the Night Country.

Unlike Earth, where the moon always shows the same face to the Earth because of its synchronous orbit and rotation, here in the Night Country, under certain conditions, the other side of the moon would rotate to face this side of the country.

And that side was the very body of the grand entity that had been sealed.

That red moon was tinged with Its blood.

These Demonic Beasts were created by the twisted wills from the half-awaking grand entity after It had been sealed.

Originally, these Evil Gods attacked and rejected each other’s existence, which is why there would only be one Demonic Tide at a time.

But as the will of the grand entity gradually revived, these wills started merging, leading to the appearance of the Triple Magical Tide.

In the end, perhaps there might be a situation where the remaining eleven Demonic Tides would attack the Night Country simultaneously.

“…So, when facing the Demonic Beasts, preventing the Blood Moon’s radiance from shining on them is of utmost importance.”

Lu Ban’s inspiration burst forth.

“Or, if you could manage it, you might also construct a huge barrier to completely block out the moon. If moonlight cannot reach the ground, then the revival of those Demonic Beasts will be extremely slow,”

he said.

“Block out the moon?”

Jonah imagined it for a moment and thought that Lu Ban might truly have a problem with his mind.

“You could also build a massive cage to envelop this planet entirely within. Not seeing the moon at all would work just fine,”

Lu Ban proposed once more.

“… What you said, I’ll convey it to Gray Tower,”

said Jonah, unable to imagine such a situation; another matter came to his mind.

“By the way, Birmingham is looking for you; it seems like he’s on guard duty at the watchtower.”
