I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 243 - 243 242.Too against the heavens_1

Chapter 243: 242.Too against the heavens_1 Chapter 243: 242.Too against the heavens_1 Mo Guangyuan sent a message to his family saying he would be working late and headed back to reading “The Madman’s Mouth.”

What exactly was upstairs where the novelist lived, Mo Guangyuan was very curious.

The atmosphere grew tenser, and Mo Guangyuan’s heart hung with every creak that came from the ceiling.

“You can’t go upstairs…”

Mo Guangyuan thought to himself that, under these circumstances, there definitely wouldn’t be anything good upstairs.

According to the typical horror movie formula, going upstairs at this point almost certainly meant trouble.

At that moment, the girl named Shia suddenly raised her hand.

Boom, boom, boom—

An explosive force erupted, and the ceiling seemed to be struck by something as it shook, followed by an explosion; and by the time the dust settled, there was no movement left above.

“???”

Mo Guangyuan was a bit dumbfounded.

Normally, shouldn’t there be a thrilling and exciting exploration followed by a final victory over the enemy, with a reward?

How was it resolved so quickly?

Was this girl a bit too OP?

He saw Lu Ban voicing his opinion, and the three of them started talking like a comedy sketch again.

“It feels somewhat unserious.”

Although Mo Guangyuan found their banter quite interesting, wasn’t it a bit inappropriate to have a comedy routine in a horror movie?

The atmosphere built up in front had given Mo Guangyuan goosebumps, yet the interactions among these people seemed more akin to a comedy.

The contrast made Mo Guangyuan feel… pretty cool, actually.

If it were all horror scenes with constant tension, it could easily fatigue the audience.

This back-and-forth, using light-hearted scenes to ease the fear, turned out to be quite nice.

The trio reached the second floor and saw the body of a monster.

Seeing the monster, with an octopus-like head and the body of a large dog, Mo Guangyuan felt his scalp tingle.

The creature’s instinctive repulsiveness, especially its bizarre color scheme which was as jarring as bright red paired with emerald green, was a sight for sore eyes.

In the room, he also saw a painting that depicted the monsters in groups, with a space empty at the front, as if the monster had just leaped out of the painting.

Suddenly, the monster’s belly swelled up.

The trio quickly left the room, and the moment they closed the door, the carcass of the monster exploded scattering tiny, tentacled worms everywhere, which was nauseating.

“Yikes.”

Mo Guangyuan rubbed his hands; the scene packed with swarming tiny worms and blurred flesh and blood was too much for someone with mild trypophobia like him.

In a room smeared with stains, the protagonist found a novel titled “The Dog in the Painting.”

As the novel was opened, the scene shifted, presenting a story segment from within the book.

The monster stepped out of that painting, its head entirely made of tentacles, its body slick, like a large dog. The writhing tentacles and the creature’s bizarre colors fully awakened Mo Guangyuan’s primal fear, causing his heart to race and a desire to get away from the screen, away from the imagery.

And the owner of the painting was devoured by the monster, a sight too gruesome to behold.

Mo Guangyuan paused for a moment.

He needed a break.

Having reviewed many horror films recently, Mo Guangyuan had seen quite a few, but most were shoddily made internet movies, their scariest aspect being the laughably fake props and forced mystique, less frightening than the prospect of his wife discovering his secret stash of cash.

Yet now, just a few scenes into this movie sent chills down Mo Guangyuan’s spine.

He glanced around the office; it was silent.

Suddenly, Mo Guangyuan’s gaze fixed on a painting.

It was an ink painting hanging in the office, an imitation of a famous work, featuring some figures and animals and such.

Mo Guangyuan stared at this painting because he thought the things in it seemed to have moved.

He took off his headphones, stood up, and moved closer to the side of the painting.

He saw the people drinking tea under the tree, the dog beside them, the women out for a stroll, and the children in the distance, as if nothing had changed.

“Hehe.”

At that moment, Mo Guangyuan suddenly heard the sounds of children frolicking near his ear.

He looked back, trying to see if a family had brought their child to the office, but when he reached the empty corridor, he found nothing.

Returning, Mo Guangyuan took another glance at the painting.

The people drinking tea under the tree, the dog beside them, the women out for a stroll…

The child was gone!

“Hehe.”

This time, the laughter of a child clearly came from behind Mo Guangyuan.

Feeling a tingling on his scalp, Mo Guangyuan immediately turned around.

The office was completely empty, there was nothing there.

But then he suddenly saw a foot retracting from the corner of a desk.

It was the foot of a child.

“…It can’t be.”

Given the plot of the movie, where a horror monster depicted in a painting stepped out of it, could the child in this painting also come out?

Impossible!

There are no such supernatural events in this world!!

Mo Guangyuan cautiously approached the desk.

With a quick look, he saw a child sitting behind the desk.

“!!!”

Mo Guangyuan’s heartbeat suddenly accelerated, blood rushing to his head, and he hastily stepped back half a step.

The child lifted his head from his phone and gave Mo Guangyuan a glance without saying a word.

“Xiao Bao? Xiao Bao?”

A calling voice came from the corridor, and Mo Guangyuan leaned out to see a woman searching for her child.

He stopped her and pointed to the office.

“Is this your son?”

He asked, pointing at the child.

“Yes, oh, this child just loves hiding away playing on his phone, thank you so much, Xiao Mo,” the woman said as she took her silent child, who kept staring at the phone screen, and left.

Only then did Mo Guangyuan close the office door and return to his seat. He had just picked up his headphones when he suddenly had a delayed realization.

“The woman just now, I seem to have never seen her before?”

Having been here so many years, he was quite familiar with everyone from the other departments, seeing each other every day, and he recognized their family members, but he had never seen that woman before, yet she seemed quite familiar with him.

Puzzled, Mo Guangyuan took another careful look at the painting.

It was then that he saw the child, who had just disappeared, reappear in the painting, walking forward with a woman by his side, holding his hand.

“…”

Mo Guangyuan decided not to think too deeply about it.

As the film master could not be taken home to prevent leaks, he had to watch it in the office. After a moment of indecision, he finally put on his headphones and continued watching.

Shortly after, Mo Guangyuan saw that the actions of the main characters were again recorded by the content on the manuscript paper, their every move becoming part of the novel.

At that moment, Mo Guangyuan subconsciously looked up to see the painting again.

He found an unrecognizable face right there.
