I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 227 - 227 226. Spider Descends from the Sky_1

Chapter 227: 226. Spider Descends from the Sky_1 Chapter 227: 226. Spider Descends from the Sky_1 The interior of the church was beautifully decorated with a classic ambiance, and it was clean and well-maintained, showing no signs of wear.

Those dressed in black suits, holding briefcases, just sat in rows, waiting to listen to the words of the priest.

And that priest, he was not dressed in a black suit, but in a long robe, holding a book in his hand.

He looked around at the people below him, his gaze lingering on Lu Ban and the others for a moment, before he continued to pick up the book.

“Today we’ll be talking about the content of ‘The Path of the Profound’…”

Surprisingly, he didn’t recite scripture or the holy text but began telling a story.

The story was a horror story, but the priest spoke in a flat tone, devoid of emotion or inflection, so it wasn’t scary.

Upon close listening, Cui Siter realized that something was off.

The plot had a resemblance to what he had experienced that night.

Especially the monster that attacked the protagonist, it sounded just like a Ratman.

“Is this also a book from the Ancient Capital?”

Cui Siter asked curiously.

“Why do these people gather to listen to stories written by the Ancient Capital, what kind of religious custom is this?”

Shia also found it odd.

Once the story ended, all the villagers appeared entranced, and the priest immediately led everyone in prayer.

“We thank our Lord for bestowing upon us life, food, and a home to dwell in. We will dedicate everything to You, fulfill Your wishes, and respond to Your will…”

It sounded quite superstitious, but Lu Ban and the others still pretended to pray along for a couple of lines.

“Disperse.”

With a wave from the priest, those people tiptoed out, their movements eerily strange, as they left the church.

Only Lu Ban and the other two remained.

The priest noticed them and asked.

“Do you need anything else?”

“I want to know where the Ancient Capital is?”

Lu Ban got straight to the point and stood up to ask.

“My Lord is right here.”

Unexpectedly, the priest did not hide the truth but answered directly.

“My Lord…so, does that mean you were praying to the Ancient Capital? Is He a god?”

Shia, who seemed quite sensitive about these religious matters, inquired.

“My Lord is the god who created all things, the Supreme Creator who has given us life, an omnipotent and omniscient great existence.”

The priest proclaimed in a preaching tone.

“Where is He?”

Cui Siter felt something might be off with the priest’s mind and pressed the question.

“My Lord is right here.”

The priest repeated.

“In this church?”

Cui Siter felt that the other was being evasive.

“Night is about to fall. If you wander the streets, you might encounter danger. Either stay here or go to the inn.”

The priest suddenly spoke up.

“Nightfall? Wasn’t it just daytime?”

Cui Siter was puzzled.

“It’s getting dark.”

Lu Ban looked out the window, and the once bright sky was suddenly stained with twilight, a blanket of orange.

“?”

Cui Siter felt something was awry; he stepped out of the church to see that the town was indeed on the cusp of nightfall.

“Is there a problem with the flow of time here?”

Having experienced the varying rates of time flow in the Foreign Domain, Cui Siter was well aware that certain divine entities could indeed interfere with time.

But could the Ancient Capital do such a thing?

He didn’t believe it.

“Stay here or go to the hotel?”

Shia also came to the doorway.

“Let’s go to the hotel, at least we can ask around for more information.”

Lu Ban seemed to sense something and walked out of the church.

As night fell rapidly, the three of them followed the road and arrived at a building with a hotel sign, entering through the main doors just as the last glimmer of sunset disappeared.

There was no one else in the hotel, the lobby was empty except for a man dressed like the owner, who sat there reading a book.

Lu Ban glanced over; the book appeared to be a work from Ancient Capital, its cover depicted a spider with a human face dangling from the ceiling, while the people below were completely oblivious. The title was “Spiders in the Corner”.

“What, are there going to be spiders dropping down at night?”

He joked, as he approached the hotel owner.

“We’d like to stay here.”

“For lodging, second floor, keys are here.”

The owner took out the keys, as if he had been waiting for a long time.

“You don’t charge anything?”

Lu Ban took the keys.

“You are all guests of my lord, there’s no need to pay.”

The owner spoke eerily.

“Do you have anything to eat here? I’m a bit hungry, if possible, I’d like some steaming pork rib soup with some radishes in it, and if you have braised pork that would be great, also some stir-fried vegetables, braised fish, oh right, rice, do you have rice?”

Lu Ban rattled off.

“Please wait a moment.”

The owner’s voice was flat, and he guided them to a table to sit down before heading into another room.

“You really dare to eat the food here?”

Cui Siter asked, puzzled.

“I’ve heard of a city where all the buildings are made of food, looking delicious, but once you eat anything from there, you’ll be forever bound to that town, unable to leave ever again, eventually turning into food yourself, waiting for the next person to arrive.”

The Detective shared a creepy tale from Abandoned Capital, one told to scare children.

“I’ve heard similar stories too, told to scare kids who are too greedy.”

Shia said seriously, glancing in the direction the owner had gone.

“I’m hungry too.”

“All the food you ate you threw up, it would be strange if you weren’t hungry.”

Lu Ban quipped, but then immediately felt something off about the airflow around him and quickly corrected himself.

“I mean, you should really replenish your nutrients.”

The wind stopped.

They chatted idly about the small town while waiting, and eventually, the owner brought out dinner.

Pork rib soup with radishes, braised pork, braised fish, stir-fried vegetables, rice—it was all exactly as Lu Ban had requested.

Lu Ban immediately picked up his chopsticks, shoveling a couple of bites of rice into his mouth and then a piece of braised pork.

Seeing how deliciously he was eating, Shia also imitated him and picked up the chopsticks, sipping a bit of soup.

The two devoured their meal greedily, making Cui Siter’s heart race with fear.

Just as Cui Siter saw that the food seemed really alright and was about to pick up his chopsticks, Lu Ban suddenly lifted his head from the bowl, rice still stuck to the corner of his mouth, and exclaimed.

“Damn!”

Cui Siter’s chopsticks trembled and nearly fell as he asked anxiously.

“What’s wrong, is there something wrong with the food?”

“No, I just realized, if they can prepare all these dishes, I should have ordered something more difficult, more exotic, things I can’t usually eat, like lobster, king crab, snowflake beef, such a loss.”

Lu Ban was full of regret.

“What shoes?”

Cui Siter had never heard of the things Lu Ban mentioned and was a bit confused.

But then he suddenly saw something falling onto Lu Ban’s shoulder from above. Looking up, he made out that it was a furry, patterned spider!

Cui Siter focused his eyes and quickly identified that there were countless spiders hanging from the ceiling, swaying with the breeze, slowly descending towards the table.
