Chapter 206: 205.Horror Cinema_1 Chapter 206: 205.Horror Cinema_1 “What will happen today?”

Before coming, Lu Ban had checked astronomical data, and there were no special astronomical phenomena today. There were no Perseid meteor showers nor Mercury transits, and the nearest comet wouldn’t approach Earth for another forty years.

It was just an ordinary end of the year.

“Let’s check the tickets first,”

Feng Yu didn’t answer and walked with Lu Ban towards the ticket checkpoint instead.

The two walked one after the other, like friends with an ordinary relationship.

After taking their seats, Lu Ban found they were in a position towards the back and to the right. It wasn’t a very good spot, only allowing a view of the majority of the cinema hall—it was quite suitable for couples to stealthily do things, however.

As for the movie, naturally, it was Lu Ban’s “Cry”. When the screening was about to start, Lu Ban was surprised to find that the cinema hall was almost full. He hadn’t expected so many people to choose a horror film for their first movie of the New Year.

“You didn’t just want to watch the movie with me again, did you?”

Lu Ban asked quietly.

“Wouldn’t you like that?”

Feng Yu asked as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“It’s not exactly that…”

While Lu Ban was carefully choosing his words, he suddenly felt something odd.

Was the period of darkness after the adverts unusually long?

He looked up towards the screen, only to find that the entire cinema hall had darkened.

The entire audience had vanished, leaving only a lonely and dim space. The empty seats resembled coffins waiting for bodies.

“This is…”

Daring to make a judgment like a professional Chosen by Gods, Lu Ban quickly realized that this was a kind of space similar to the Foreign Domain.

It was like Jiangcheng Grand Theater that night, and like Nanhua Private Renji Hospital on that day.

“Shh.”

Feng Yu made a hushing gesture and pointed to one side.

Lu Ban saw that there were still two people in the vast cinema hall.

At first glance, these two people looked like ordinary passersby, but upon closer inspection, Lu Ban noticed that their clothing was rather peculiar.

One of them wore a cloak similar to Shia’s, a tall man with a robust figure.

The other person wore a cheongsam, appearing to be a woman.

“…Chosen by Gods?”

Lu Ban quickly caught on to the situation.

Based on his past experiences, the place he was now in was also a Foreign Domain within the Silent Lands. Then, considering Lu Ban himself could travel to explore other Foreign Domains, why couldn’t people from other Foreign Domains come to his world?

“The Silent Lands can confuse perception. At first, I couldn’t recognize them as people from other Foreign Domains.”

At first glance, these two appeared as ordinary people to Lu Ban, until after a while, he realized they were not natives of this world. Perhaps when he traveled to other Foreign Domains, a similar situation occurred where the Silence rewrote the locals’ perception, making the appearance of Chosen by Gods seem less abrupt.

Looking at it this way, many of the rumors surrounding supernatural events might not be false but rather anomalies caused by the arrival of Chosen by Gods.

However, why could Lu Ban see through the deception this time?

Was it Feng Yu’s help?

Lu Ban looked at the woman beside him.

“I suggest you act as if you haven’t noticed anything,”

Feng Yu whispered.

Lu Ban watched as the two people stood up, conversing with each other and looking around. They noticed Lu Ban and Feng Yu and started walking towards them.

“Are these two the guides for this time…”

Remington noticed the man and woman sitting in the corner at first glance. He murmured to himself, then glanced at the woman beside him.

She appeared exceedingly vulnerable, dressed in a short outfit that accentuated her figure, seemingly devoid of any fighting ability.

“My name is Remington, from Hei Tower. It seems you are my fellow traveler this time,”

he greeted her first.

“Y-Yes, my name is Zi Tang,”

the woman said, her facial features exuding a pitiable charm. If not for meeting her in this place, Remington wouldn’t mind engaging in further conversation with her to spend a delightful evening together.

But now, although there was a beauty and the night had come, nothing was pleasant.

In front of Remington, flickering words projected onto the blank screen emerged.

“Terror Cinema”

“The cinema represents fantasy, longing, and all hope.”

“Countless tales of love and hatred unfold here; joy and sorrow are but fleeting realizations, grand deaths and humble endings are illusions on the stage.”

“You’ve come to this cinema to find a way to survive; let’s wait and see if those film reels hide an ending that allows survival.”

“Task Difficulty: Contamination”

“Task Requirement: Witness the end of a story”

“Task Requirement: Survive in the cinema until dawn”

“‘Movies and life are different; life is much harder.’

“Survival tasks…”

Remington had already experienced ten tasks in Foreign Domains, including two of [Corrosion] difficulty, and he was very aware of the dangers of Silent Lands.

The most dangerous were tasks that had survival as their objective.

Even the most basic [Mortal] difficulty tasks would attract strange things to harass and threaten the Chosen by Gods if they merely sat still.

Not to mention the higher difficulty levels.

“I’m good at stealth and combat, and I have some ways to deal with monsters in the dark. What about you?”

Remington revealed his strengths. With a companion, it was beneficial to discuss each other’s combat styles for better cooperation in completing the task.

“I… I can see some dirty things,” Zi Tang said timidly.

“What else?”

Remington raised an eyebrow.

“…I’m sorry.”

Zi Tang didn’t know what to say, so she could only close her eyes and apologize.

“Who gave you the courage to choose Contamination difficulty?”

Remington already pegged the woman as a liability.

In Silent Lands, the more one knew, the more susceptible to pollution and prone to madness they’d become. If a person’s only ability was to see more, they were nothing but a burden to their teammates, a true dead weight.

Forget it, if worse came to worst, he could use her as a test subject.

In Silent Lands, if a fellow traveler wasn’t strong, they were very likely to be used as cannon fodder. If there was anyone to blame, it was themselves.

Anyway, this place resembled a theater. It seemed their task involved not just surviving, but also exploring this place, obtaining something—perhaps a script. They couldn’t just sit and wait for death.

Remington thought as he walked over to a man and a woman.

“Are you the staff here?”

He asked.

“Sort of.”

The female among them replied.

“Sort of?”

Remington was a bit puzzled, but it appeared that the two weren’t going to harm him; they were local team members for this task, and could be useful in a critical moment.

He continued speaking.

“I’m Remington; this is my friend Zi Tang. And you are?”

“Feng Yu.”

The woman responded and pointed to the man beside her.

“This is Lu Ban, and we work here.”

As soon as she finished speaking.

The pitch-black big screen suddenly lit up.

Accompanied by the creaking sound of the projector film turning, blotchy images appeared on it.

Distorted and off-key music began to play.

The movie had started.
