Chapter 202: 201. Not afraid of not being able to sleep at night?_1 Chapter 202: 201. Not afraid of not being able to sleep at night?_1 At the sight of that person, Bai Qiquan felt as if his heart and lungs had stopped.
He saw the other person staring straight at him, and then the corner of their mouth twitched.
“What, looking at me as if you’ve seen a ghost?”
The familiar voice of Bai Qiquan came from the other person.
Only then did he realize that it was his girlfriend, Pang Zhen.
“No, that’s not it.”
Bai Qiquan hurriedly explained, but an explanation was just a cover-up, his pale face had already betrayed him.
“Are you feeling guilty because you were chatting with some other little girl and saw me?”
Pang Zhen sat down beside Bai Qiquan, her tone becoming playful.
“Considering you were revising alone in the study room, I thought it was tough, so I bought you something to eat.”
In her hand were drinks and desserts, seemingly bought from the KFC that was open 24 hours.
Upon hearing the couple’s whispering voices, a male student in the study room turned his head to look, saw it was a couple, immediately shook his head, and turned back around.
Someone studying alone in a cold study room deep in the night is one thing, possibly failing an exam after studying is another, but why were there also couples spreading dog food (showing affection) in the study room.
The person moved two rows forward, getting away from Bai Qiquan and his companion.
“I was just watching a video, the new one from the director of ‘Cry’.”
Bai Qiquan whispered in explanation.
“Oh, that one… wait, what did you say?”
Pang Zhen, realizing late, turned pale instantly.
She knew very well the horror of Lu Ban’s works.
After watching the movie that day, neither of them dared to return to their dorms alone, ultimately opening a room in a hotel near the school.
Then, the things many people were hoping for did not happen at all, and Pang Zhen was even complained at by Bai Qiquan for snoring at night.
It was a disastrous experience!
I haven’t even mentioned his teeth grinding at midnight!
Pang Zhen glanced at the mobile phone screen in Bai Qiquan’s hand.
“You dare to watch it? Not afraid you won’t be able to sleep at night?”
“Isn’t this an all-nighter study session? I need something scary to stay alert, and this isn’t even that scary,”
Not as scary as you sneaking up on me just now.
Bai Qiquan added internally.
“Then keep watching, I won’t watch it if you killed me.”
Pang Zhen said as she took out her textbook, pretending to read and study.
Bai Qiquan glanced at the person beside him, then continued watching the film.
With someone at his side, the film didn’t seem as scary.
He saw Lu Ban entering a large hall with a pool in the center. The camera cut to other people whose passages were each filled with danger, watching which made Bai Qiquan’s heart race.
Fortunately, everyone made it to the hall.
In the pool at the center of the hall, blood dripped down, and a platform rose up alongside things resembling insect eggs, causing Bai Qiquan a feeling of discomfort.
Splat—
Not until the space above the insect eggs cracked open and numerous tentacles stretched out did Bai Qiquan finally feel a subtle sense of nausea.
“Ugh, so disgusting.”
Next to him, Pang Zhen, who sneaked a peek at Bai Qiquan’s phone screen, commented.
“Weren’t you not watching?”
“I saw it by accident.”
“Oh!”
Bai Qiquan ignored the woman, as he saw the creature inside the insect egg trying to burst out. Lu Ban blocked it even as it tried to drill into the skin.
He felt goosebumps, as if the insects were burrowing directly into his own hand. Bai Qiquan couldn’t help but scratch his arm only to find it itchier the more he scratched.
Bai Qiquan took a look.
He discovered something under his slightly reddened arm skin, moving through his veins like a burrowing insect, about to emerge.
“Holy shit!”
He couldn’t help but cry out and quickly stood up.
But when he looked again, his arm was intact, as if nothing had happened.
The people in the study room all looked over, with impatience and slight a hint of annoyance etched on their faces.
“Sorry, so sorry.”
Bai Qiquan hastily apologized and sat back down.
“Are you freaking out or what?”
Pang Zhen rolled her eyes at him, then curiously glanced at his phone screen.
“Is it really that scary?”
“Not exactly scary… it’s just got this sort of… anyway, it’s very immersive.”
Bai Qiquan thought that maybe the special effects were done so well they gave him the impression of bugs crawling on his own hand.
He looked at his arm again; other than the marks from his own scratching, there was nothing else.
Bai Qiquan continued to watch the video.
In the video, the scene had shifted to the rubble on the ground. Lu Ban and his companions found the army of bugs, and another group of Wasteland Hunters was under attack. They gathered and entered a cave.
“So that blood, it was from these people?”
Bai Qiquan felt a shiver run down his spine.
Lu Ban and others had gone down into a cavern full of bug eggs, heading toward the source of where the eggs were being transported. The sticky eggs gave off an intense feeling of unease. Bai Qiquan feared that halfway through, all these eggs would hatch, and the disgusting, hideous monsters would leap out and latch onto the faces of the protagonists and others.
The group reached the end of the passage, and there was an even bigger room.
Bai Qiquan saw that in the room, there was a huge bug confined there, laying eggs.
Underneath it was a stone coffin. Its white, bloated abdomen was laying numerous eggs, and around the room, dark, ugly, and cold bugs were scuttling around, causing one’s scalp to tingle.
The bugs scattered, leaving an open space, and a pale figure stood in the center, the same eerie figure in white from before.
The next scene left Bai Qiquan utterly speechless.
The massive Queen Bug moved its abdomen in front of Lu Ban as if it wanted to fuse with him. The thought made Bai Qiquan feel disgusted and nauseous, and he felt his dinner surging up his throat, about to come out.
“How can the plot be so disgusting…”
He muttered to himself in disgust, and then saw Lu Ban pull out a little pumpkin.
The pumpkin had been mentioned earlier in the story, seemingly something that would brainwash people.
The figure in white took the pumpkin, and the Queen Bug began to gnaw on it.
Soon, the Queen Bug’s movements became sluggish, and from its massive mouthparts, a voice vibrated out.
“Halloween.”
Then, the bugs surrounding the Queen Bug also emitted a similar sound.
The voice of Halloween spread throughout the space, creating an eerie atmosphere.
Just as Bai Qiquan was thinking how easily they seemed to have overcome the challenge, he saw that among the Wasteland Hunters who arrived later, one of them started to look stiff and awkward.
“Halloween.”
He uttered the same words.
Then, one by one, even the leader of the Wasteland Hunters—known as Iron Fist—after struggling for a moment, also wore a numb expression on his face.
“Halloween.”
He said.
Seeing this, Bai Qiquan was dumbstruck for a moment.
But then, everything made sense to him.
At the same time, Bai Qiquan felt unprecedented terror and panic. The horror of such an inhuman thing masquerading as human, and the subversion of self-awareness by the monster made his entire body shudder.
He could feel his heart racing, cold sweat running down his back in the winter study room.
Just as the thrill reached its peak, his girlfriend Pang Zhen patted him.
“Halloween.”
When Pang Zhen uttered the word, Bai Qiquan felt his blood rush to his brain, and he leaped up as if electrified, letting out a cry of alarm.
“Don’t come near me, don’t come near me, don’t come near me, ah…”
He fell to the ground, scrambling away and fleeing the study room without looking back.
“?”
Pang Zhen was baffled.
She just meant it wasn’t Christmas, so why were these people talking about Halloween.
Was that kind of reaction really necessary?
