I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 199 - 199 198. Silence Plan_1
Chapter 199: 198. Silence Plan_1 Chapter 199: 198. Silence Plan_1 “?”
Lu Ban was taken aback.
He had no idea Feng Yu would come.
If he had known in advance that Feng Yu would be here, Lu Ban might have reconsidered giving this the time of day and just gone home instead.
Even though Feng Yu, or rather the person now replacing Feng Yu, didn’t seem malevolent toward Lu Ban, the thought of standing alongside this being, who might not even be human, instinctively filled Lu Ban with a sense of fear.
Besides, after meeting Shia, Lu Ban had an epiphany.
The women from Silent Lands were not to be trifled with.
He looked at Feng Yu’s smiling face, adjusted his mood, and walked over.
“So, you two know each other?”
The middle-aged woman in charge of reception was named Mei Juan, she glanced at Lu Ban, then at Feng Yu, her surprise tinged with a spectator’s curiosity.
“We’re classmates, Sister Mei,”
Feng Yu explained.
Lu Ban quickly pulled Feng Yu aside.
“How did you get here?”
He looked around; the audience had not yet entered, just the empty seats were visible, showing no sign of anything unusual.
“Can’t I come?”
Feng Yu said innocently, and before Lu Ban could reply, the corners of her mouth turned upward.
“The director I’m working with is also attending the premiere, and I’m here to help coordinate things,”
she explained.
“The director you’re working with… he is not, is he?”
Lu Ban asked, curious.
Feng Yu’s death had made the news, yet now she appeared to be alive and normal, undetectable by others, which surely involved some cognition rewriting. Just as the Chosen by Gods enter the Foreign Domain and the people there soon accept their presence, even considering them as companions.
“No, no, he’s just a common person,”
Feng Yu said with a laugh.
“That’s good.”
Lu Ban felt relieved.
Feng Yu didn’t continue chatting with Lu Ban but went back to communicating with Mei Juan.
Lu Ban sat in the front row and waited for a while. The audience gradually filled the room and the premiere officially began.
After a relatively lengthy introduction segment, it was finally Lu Ban’s turn to speak.
He stepped in front of the screen; the auditorium was filled with faces mostly younger, and Lu Ban didn’t know if all of them had seen his work. He looked around the room and then began.
“I am very grateful to everyone for attending the premiere of ‘Cry.’ I hope you can all feel love and hope from this movie. That’s all I have to say about it,”
he said, bowing.
The audience was somewhat confused.
Isn’t this where one should share something about their creative process?
Why has it ended so soon?
They didn’t know whether they should be applauding at this point.
Lu Ban raised his head and picked up the microphone again.
“Also, I have an announcement to make here,”
he said, prompting the audience to perk up their ears and listen intently.
“Many of you may have seen my previous films and videos, and some might be curious about what’s in Abandoned Capital, what eventually happened to the Merman village, and what secrets lie within the Shrine of The Island,”
Lu Ban looked at Feng Yu sitting in the audience seats, her chin propped on her hands, listening intently to his speech.
“Just like with ‘Cry’ and the movie ‘Nameless City’ which I will release for free soon, there’s a whole world behind these movies, waiting for you all to explore it,”
Upon hearing Lu Ban’s words, a murmur rose among the audience.
Half of it was because Lu Ban had said that the previous movies belonged to a whole set of a connected universe, and the other half was because of the new movie Lu Ban mentioned.
And it was to be released for free!
“So, I will launch my next new project at midnight tonight, which is when ‘Cry’ premieres, and it will be called ‘Silence Project.’ This will include a series of films, settings, and worldviews, which I hope everyone will enjoy,”
Lu Ban bowed again.
Only then did the audience burst into applause.
On one hand, the vast and interconnected universe of these works meant that many more related projects were coming, and the sequels the audience looked forward to would be produced one after another.
On the other hand, the speed with which Lu Ban released videos and movies convinced them that this was not just about making money with empty promises but a solid plan, especially since the new film would be released online shortly, right?
Some who had come for a second viewing were already itching with anticipation, wishing they could run out and wait for the new video to be released at midnight.
Lu Ban straightened up and added another sentence.
“By the way, the cinema has arranged proper security personnel for everyone. If you don’t dare to go home alone after watching the movie later, you can ask the security guards for help.”
His remark drew laughter, part of which was from people thinking such a situation would be unlikely, and another part was schadenfreude.
Lu Ban returned to his seat as he naturally intended to watch the entire movie as well.
“Pretty impressive,”
Feng Yu complimented him from beside him.
“Let’s watch the movie. Have you seen it before?”
Lu Ban checked his phone for the webpage and account’s scheduled timing, which was all correct.
“I have, but I don’t mind watching it again.”
Feng Yu smiled and said.
“Sometimes, re-watching a movie you’ve seen before can reveal new things.”
“Indeed.”
Lu Ban also quite enjoyed watching movies he had seen before. He had seen some very ordinary films three or four times. To him, even though the freshness of the script might diminish, the shots, actors’ performances, and details were all worth savoring again and again.
If a movie relied solely on a powerful plot twist to amaze people the first time and then felt dull the second time, then that movie was not considered excellent to Lu Ban.
The cinema darkened, and the sponsors and production credits appeared, casting light upon Feng Yu’s face, making Lu Ban see her as a stranger.
The movie started playing, displaying familiar scenes before Lu Ban’s eyes.
He found it difficult to concentrate on the film; instead, he kept noticing Feng Yu’s reactions.
He saw Feng Yu startled, frightened, then breath a sigh of relief before getting tense again. Several times, she instinctively grabbed Lu Ban’s wrist, like any ordinary girl.
Even at the end of the movie, when the mother in the film made her confession, Feng Yu’s shoulders trembled, and she emitted a small sobbing sound.
Lu Ban handed her a tissue.
“I’ve heard a saying that when someone is about to die, they will come to a cinema where a movie is playing. When the movie ends, the person truly dies. What movie would you want to see at that moment?”
While the cast credits were being shown, Feng Yu suddenly spoke up. Her voice was soft, and yet it clearly reached Lu Ban’s ears.
“… ‘Once Upon a Time in America’?”
Lu Ban paused for a moment.
“Do you really like that movie?”
“No, just that it’s quite long, so I can die a bit later. Maybe I could be revived by emergency treatment.”
Lu Ban explained earnestly.
He heard no more sound from next to him.
Turning his head, Lu Ban saw Feng Yu looking at him, her eyes filled with a kind of brilliant radiance, like a cluster of stars, like a real starry sky.
“In one week, at this cinema, at midnight, if you come, maybe you will see something.”
Feng Yu leaned in close and whispered in Lu Ban’s ear.
That voice, sweet as death itself.
