Chapter 192 - 192 191. Only Halloween_1 will remain in your brain
Chapter 192: 191. Only Halloween_1 will remain in your brain. Chapter 192: 191. Only Halloween_1 will remain in your brain. “Halloween?”
Upon hearing this voice, confusion rose in Shia’s mind more than surprise.
Halloween was a festival in the Night Country. Legend had it that on that day, the living and the dead would converge, and people would have the opportunity to see the departed. Of course, the dead could not be resurrected, and even among the mages of the Night Country, no one could refute this iron law.
The festival had quickly evolved into a day of family gatherings, where people would carve pumpkins into lanterns and hang them at their doors to welcome the spirits of family members, and pumpkins had become the symbol of Halloween.
Why would the Queen Bug know about Halloween?
Was it because of the pumpkin earlier?
However, there was no time left for Shia to dwell on her confusion as she heard another voice.
“Halloween.”
This voice came from a bug near the entrance hall.
That ugly, fierce, terrifying bug was actually uttering vague, human-like speech.
“Halloween.”
Another bug made a sound, and like a virus, the voices spread rapidly.
“Halloween.” “Halloween.” “Halloween.”
The hall was filled with overlapping voices of “Halloween” in different tones and sounds, turning it into an ocean of Halloween echoes.
“Are these bugs sharing thoughts with the Queen Bug?”
Shia quickly came to her senses.
It was clear that the Queen Bug was now being controlled by Lu Ban through some means, and it was connected to these other bugs in some way. Therefore, when the Queen Bug was affected, these bugs would also be influenced!
She understood that this might be the only chance in her life and immediately concentrated a spell in her palm.
Mistral’s Void Burst Spell, a lethal spell from a Great Mage of the Gray Tower, could create a small area of explosion with immense power. Its only drawback was the slow speed of its trajectory, easy to dodge except by a fool, earning it a reputation as a seemingly powerful but practically useless spell among many.
And Shia was most adept at this spell.
To her, there was no weakest spell, only the weakest mage.
As long as used properly, even this Void Burst Spell could produce miraculous effects!
Just as Shia was about to throw the invisible Meatball in her hand, a voice suddenly came from beside her.
“Halloween.”
The speaker was a Wasteland Hunter who had entered with Giant Arm.
His expression was numb, puppet-like, with his half-open mouth trembling slightly, uttering those chilling three words.
“Halloween.”
Another survivor began to speak, his eyes lifeless, like an inanimate shell.
Giant Arm was astonished; he looked at the Wasteland Hunters who had just fled the swarm of bugs with him, and now they were muttering the word “Halloween.”
Old Dream immediately became alert. After a brief shock, anyone could arrive at an obvious fact: these people… were not humans, but bugs.
They had disguised themselves as humans and followed them all along!
Flame Heart promptly lit the torch in his hands, and the crystal on his hand sparkled, bringing a flame to his palm.
“Halloween.”
Another survivor joined in the creepy chorus, echoing through the vast space with the bugs.
“This…”
Iron Fist found it hard to believe; he could name everyone, their origins, abilities, and their likes and dislikes.
But all of it suddenly felt like an illusion.
“Halloween.”
The last survivor also joined in, shattering Iron Fist’s illusion.
“Hey, what the hell are you guys?”
Giant Arm’s hands had begun to swell, and he moved away from Iron Fist and the others, warily staring at the Wasteland Hunters repeating “Halloween.”
“We are…”
Iron Fist wanted to explain, but the words he was ready to say got stuck in his throat.
He wanted to say that he had set out to find the Remains of the Sage for the prosperity of his city-state, that he had a virtuous wife, a lovely daughter, that he had battled and survived against several powerful bugs in the Wasteland, and that his ancestors had created a splendid civilization he, as their descendant, wanted to restore to glory.
However, all of that was pierced by a single voice.
“Halloween.”
No-Face uttered the wooden sound next to him.
His half-crystal face was expressionless, like a corpse, repeating the same phrase.
“Halloween.” “Halloween.” “Halloween.”
The entrance hall, too, was covered by these words.
Iron Fist struggled to his feet and reached out towards Shia and the others.
He opened his mouth, wanting to cry for help, wanting to argue, wanting to overturn everything.
But as a thousand words came to his lips, only one phrase took form.
“Halloween.”
Iron Fist’s expression became blank, rigid, numb, as this sound came out of his mouth.
Even Lu Ban was somewhat surprised.
He had not expected this team of Wasteland Hunters to actually be monsters in disguise.
They didn’t even know they were bugs, and were doing things just like humans.
Whether there really was a Wasteland Hunter named Iron Fist behind these bugs, Lu Ban was not sure.
“We must leave here quickly.”
Lu Ban said.
Shia didn’t wait for what Lu Ban would say next; the Void Burst Spell in her hand had already been thrown out.
The invisible spell drifted towards the Queen Bug.
Lu Ban saw Flame Heart simultaneously control fire to burn the surrounding Wasteland Hunters who were repeating “Halloween.”
At a spot Lu Ban couldn’t see, the invisible spell struck the Queen Bug.
Bang——
In an instant, the Queen Bug’s head turned into a hole.
“Halloween!”
The swarm of bugs boiled over in an instant.
The bugs began to fight each other, attacking every living thing they could see.
Old Dream’s eyes shone with the light of gems, causing the nearby bugs to fall asleep, while Giant Arm pushed aside the bugs blocking the way, clearing a path.
“Fire another one.”
Lu Ban said.
Shia came to Lu Ban’s side and raised her hand to unleash another Void Burst Spell towards the Queen Bug.
Bang——
The enormous body, its large and bloated abdomen, suddenly burst open, revealing the stone sarcophagus underneath.
Giant Arm pushed the sarcophagus open with one hand.
Inside the sarcophagus lay a skeleton.
The bones had long since decayed, leaving nothing but a deep grey and broken skeleton; the crown atop its head was also dull and colorless, having lost its luster.
Even if it had once worn splendid garments, now it was only a pile of white bones.
The Saint, merely this after all.
Lu Ban saw a light blue crystal in the skeleton’s chest.
He picked up the crystal.
[Item obtained: Remains of the Sage]
[Quest Requirement: Obtain the treasure of the Nameless City 1/1]
In his view, the carcasses of the bugs formed the System’s cold, indifferent text.
“Is this the Remains of the Sage?”
He did not have much time to ponder and immediately climbed onto the chains that bound the Queen Bug.
The chains were cold, heavy, seemingly forged from a special metal, difficult to destroy.
Lu Ban was the last one to go, and after Flame Heart burned away the bugs blocking the entrance with fire, they finally saw the sky again.
Bang——
Giant Arm lifted a piece of broken building and used it to cover the entrance, temporarily stopping the flow of bugs.
“We must leave as soon as possible.”
Flame Heart pointed toward the direction of the camels; they were now in a corner of the city, seemingly right where the swarm of bugs had launched their attack.
Lu Ban and Shia exchanged a look; in fact, by this point, their quest had been completed.
They could just choose to return and directly leave the Foreign Domain, returning to their original world.
Hesitating for a moment, Lu Ban was about to find an excuse to escape.
But suddenly, a voice came to his ears.
“…Halloween.”
Old Dream’s expression grew blank, and under the splendid starlight, he blurted out.
