I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 189 - 189 188. Insect Swarm_1

Chapter 189: 188. Insect Swarm_1 Chapter 189: 188. Insect Swarm_1 Ground.

A while ago.

Giant Arm hid in the shadows, observing the round plaza.

He saw Lu Ban approach the other leader, exchanged a few words, and suddenly pulled out a knife.

“Is he really going to stab the enemy in the face!”

Giant Arm exclaimed at the courage of Lu Ban.

“The other party looks like the leader of a big force; they’re surely very strong. This looks bad for them!”

Flame Heart remarked.

“Didn’t he say he was going to negotiate?”

Only Old Dream remembered the words Lu Ban had mentioned to them before.

“Who negotiates with a knife… Ouch, why did he stab himself?”

Giant Arm asked in a surprised whisper.

“It seems fine, they both shook hands.”

Flame Heart took a glance.

“How come they’ve started eating, I want to eat too…”

“Wait until this job is done, then we can go back and eat well.”

“Do you think they might just forget about us?”

“Stop talking nonsense. We’re in this together; they won’t betray us. Besides, if they really did sell us out, that group of people would have come to capture us already.”

“Oh, that’s also true.”

“They’ve gone down.”

“It’s so quiet, there are hardly any people in the plaza.”

“Probably most of the Wasteland Hunters have gone underground.”

“We need to work hard too.”

“Wait, do you hear something?”

Old Dream, who had been keeping an eye on the area behind them, suddenly spoke up.

The three fell silent, and in the pitch-black silence of the ruins, there seemed to be a faint buzzing sound.

That sound was like some sharp object tearing through the sky, rapidly moving forward.

Moreover, these sounds were continuous, not like they were made by a single thing.

“Could it be…”

Before Giant Arm could recover his wits, he saw dense raindrops falling from the sky.

No, those weren’t raindrops, but black arrows.

Or rather, something like bone spurs.

The sound of them tearing through the air came from these objects.

In an instant, the bone spurs passed over the three hiding in the shadows and landed directly on the round plaza.

Without any room for struggle or resistance, those Wasteland Hunters in the plaza became like sieves.

Most of them were pinned to the ground, their heads, bodies, and limbs all punctured, their faces not even having time to express shock.

Blood meandered across the ground, the crimson liquid seeping into the mineral strata and the corpses lay on top.

Rustle, rustle—

Giant Arm heard some hurried sounds, he looked back, and in the darkness, there seemed to be countless creatures wriggling.

“Are those the insects from the ruins?”

He immediately realized.

Previous scouting knew there were some insects lurking around, but they hadn’t come close, so Giant Arm had not cared much. Now he thought about it, such ruins surely couldn’t only harbor a few insects; this complicated terrain was most likely a nest for them, and now it was time for these insects to return to their nest.

“We can’t stay here anymore.”

Flame Heart stood up.

They saw that in the camp where another group of Wasteland Hunters was stationed, there seemed to be shadows flickering among those fires.

Accompanied by a burst of frantic noise, screams followed one after another.

The three of them didn’t concern themselves with what happened to the others; they simply packed up their things and tried to head toward the camels. But when they reached the bottom of the building, all they saw was a crushing mass of insects swarming up toward them, blanketing the sky.

These insects were huge, half the height of a person, with pitch-black bodies and covered in sharp spikes. Their massive pincers and mouthparts glistened with a menacing light under the starry sky. Like a tidal wave, they destroyed everything in their path.

Giant Arm realized their escape route was blocked; the only way left was toward the plaza.

“These insects are swarming from the outside in,”

Old Dream said, then pointed toward the plaza at the center of the city.

“Let’s go there; we can enter the tunnels and hide out for a while.”

They immediately set off, running toward the plaza at full speed.

As they reached the plaza, they streaked past the gruesome and horrifying corpses and saw other people fleeing in from another direction.

The two groups stared at each other briefly, then both ran toward the massive hole in the center of the plaza.

Behind them, the endless swarm of insects formed a wave several meters high. Being caught in it meant certain death, crushed to pieces and turned into fodder for the insects.

Without much communication, everyone knew that in the Wasteland, under these circumstances, humans must choose to cooperate. Internal strife would only lead to a quicker death.

Giant Arm was the last one to enter the hole, his hands quickly swelling up as he grabbed a rock and smashed it into the opening of the cavern.

Boom—

After the rumbling, the world fell silent.

The survivors looked at each other, at a loss, until Old Dream raised the question.

“Should we be finding an exit?”

He gestured toward the only door that had been blown open.

“Shouldn’t we clear out this place first?”

Lu Ban felt that just going down like this was too reckless. Since Shia, a person armed with a powerful weapon, was here, why not clean out three rounds of the area, turning these monsters into dust before proceeding?

“Indeed.”

Shia nodded slightly.

“All of you, step back.”

She asked the others to retreat and then raised her right hand.

“Are you planning to throw that spell one by one to blow them all up?”

Lu Ban thought about it; Shia’s spell was fairly slow. Continuing like this, it might take at least until the day after tomorrow.

“How could it last until the day after tomorrow? It could all be taken care of by noon tomorrow at most,”

Shia denied Lu Ban’s statement.

“But that’s the amount for one time, right? Aren’t you going to plow the ground several times? How could one time be enough?”

Lu Ban said what seemed obvious to him.

“Anyway, you can use that spell indefinitely, right? There’s no wear, so of course you should use the most reliable method!”

“One of us definitely has a misunderstanding about the concept of reliability,”

Shia seriously told Lu Ban.

“You two stop arguing. I’ll do it,”

No-Face interjected, then approached the entrance. The Crystal on his face began to spread, soon covering his neck, chest, and shoulders where initially only half of his face was covered.

At the same time, Lu Ban felt the temperature around them drop significantly.

He saw frost starting to form and spread from where No-Face made contact, reaching out towards the layers of insect eggs at the bottom of the cave.

“Is this the ability to control temperature?”

From Lu Ban’s understanding of science fiction movies, such an ability was quite extreme, like a man who could turn his body to ice and freeze time. However, with abilities born of disease in the Wasteland, Lu Ban was uncertain of the limits of their power.

Soon, the nest filled with insect eggs turned into a world of ice, and even the breath of those above carried a mist with it.

“With your ability, you could transform this desert,”

Lu Ban said with heartfelt emphasis.

“Stop babbling. It can only be maintained for a while. We need to move quickly,”

No-Face gave Lu Ban a look and jumped down into the hole.
