Chapter 185: 184. Do you have anything to eat here?_1 Chapter 185: 184. Do you have anything to eat here?_1 “Oh, by the way, I have a companion with me, you don’t mind, do you?”
Seeing the cooperation had been agreed upon, Lu Ban spoke up again.
“Not at all.”
Iron Fist responded, seemingly having anticipated this.
In the Wasteland, although everyone else might be a potential enemy, very few people truly operated alone. Being completely solitary could mean a minor trouble or injury might lead to one’s downfall due to lack of help. Therefore, the majority of Wasteland Hunters traveled at least in pairs.
In a world where human nature had all but faded, trust instead became people’s strongest weapon.
And for a group like Iron Fist, centered around the city-state, they took group combat to the extreme. Unless they encountered some particularly powerful creature, such a team could roam unchallenged in the Wasteland.
Lu Ban called out, and Shia, who had been hidden in the shadows, also came forward.
Clearly, in the Wasteland, females were rare, especially one as clean and tidy as this young girl.
Someone whistled, but it was quickly stifled under the gaze of Iron Fist.
In the current situation, it was best for him and Shia to follow this group into the ruins underground, but Lu Ban did not really trust these people. They had a deeper understanding of the ruins and seemed to be actively searching for something. In such a case, it was possible they were cultists of the Evil God with unsavory intentions.
“This is my companion, you can call her Mage.”
Lu Ban introduced her briefly, then added another point.
“There’s one more thing, very important.”
Iron Fist’s expression turned serious upon hearing Lu Ban’s words.
“Please, speak.”
Being able to see the Remains of the Sage meant this person was no ordinary individual, and Iron Fist’s tone grew more respectful.
Perhaps Lu Ban had seen some monster imperceptible to the average person or had some information about the underground relics.
“My companion and I haven’t eaten in a long time, do you have any food here?”
Lu Ban flashed a smile.
“…Prepare food for the two of them.”
Iron Fist clenched his fists quietly.
…
Lu Ban had initially assumed that everyone in this Wasteland world must be surviving on insects, maybe differentiated by varieties like insect soup, roasted insects, deep-fried insects, or steamed insects, and perhaps each household might fence in several of those hopping insects, even possibly having enthusiasts from an insect protection association urging everyone to stop harming insects and to live harmoniously with them.
But he found he was very wrong.
Groups like Giant Arm might eat insects because they were poor and there was a lack of resources, so they had no choice but to resort to that.
But there were other creatures in this world.
Like the soup that Lu Ban now held in his hands, with chunks of meat and vegetables floating in it and a fragrance so entrancing, it was undoubtedly a delicacy far superior in taste to any insect.
No-Face looked on, unable to help but swallowing his saliva.
“This is the same meal our leader enjoys, don’t be ungrateful.”
No-Face said something, perhaps out of a sense of competition or to give Lu Ban a veiled warning.
“Much appreciated, much appreciated.”
Lu Ban was quick to express his gratitude; after all, he was not going to object to having something to eat.
Picking up the bowl, he first sipped the soup.
The rich flavor of the meat and the grease flowed with the warm broth down his throat, the savory taste was leagues above those insect dishes. Lu Ban then took two more bites of the meat. Despite not knowing what kind of meat it was, its tender texture was nothing like the twitching insect flesh, but rather had a delicious quality.
“This tastes really good!”
Lu Ban found this Foreign Domain cuisine to have its own unique charm.
Shia, sitting beside him, cautiously cast some kind of spell before feeling safe to drink her soup.
“It’s very tasty.”
She gulped it down, finishing an entire bowl with its meat in just three seconds.
So her taste is normal too?
Lu Ban was skeptical.
While the two of them were drinking soup, that fellow in white was appearing and disappearing around them, sometimes lurking behind Iron Fist, other times mimicking a Wasteland hunter carrying things, and now he just sat beside Shia, pretending to sip the soup.
“What kind of meat is in this soup?”
Lu Ban asked.
“What else could it be? Of course, it’s insects.”
No-Face answered without hesitation.
“Pfft—”
Lu Ban almost spat out what he had just swallowed.
Picking up a piece of the white meat from the bowl, Lu Ban found it hard to associate it with the insects he had eaten the night before.
On closer inspection, maybe insects really were the main food in this world.
Humans have actually fallen to this level!
While condemning the lost bottom line of this apocalyptic world, he cleaned out his bowl thoroughly.
As long as it tasted good, it didn’t matter if it was insects.
And according to some wilderness survival hosts, the protein in insects was three times that of chicken, even more nutritious!
Having convinced himself, Lu Ban even considered having another bowl.
At that moment, there came an explosion from the hole.
“We’ve opened the door.”
The scout reported from below.
“Door?”
Lu Ban was puzzled.
He followed Iron Fist into the passage, a narrow pathway chiseled out with some unknown tools, spacious enough to accommodate three people side by side.
At the end of the passage was an even more spacious underground hall, where many supplies had already been laid out, and on one side of the hall was a door that had been blown apart.
“Wondering what they used to blow up the door?”
Lu Ban thought to himself, recalling the sounds of explosions in the city ruins, but it was clear that these people didn’t have things like gunpowder, so could it be some kind of superpower?
Curious about whose ability it might be, he casually glanced inside the door.
It was another passage, still dark and unlit, exuding a decayed smell.
Iron Fist pulled out a map made of animal hide, filled with a complex layout of terrain, apparently the blueprint of some labyrinth or underground city.
“Is this a map of this place?”
Lu Ban asked curiously.
Iron Fist didn’t answer him, but looked towards the others instead.
“Don’t touch anything here carelessly. The traps set to detain that creature are extremely clever, and any deviation could loosen the seal,”
he said.
“Seal? Is it the Remains of the Sage?”
Lu Ban glanced at Shia, the female Mage in Armor snapped her fingers, and after a moment, she spoke.
“The complexity underneath is beyond imagination, I haven’t even scouted a third of the terrain.”
The possibility of a vast underground labyrinth spanning more than three hundred meters made Lu Ban think of the imperial tombs in those tomb-robbing novels.
He saw that the fellow in white curiously wandered around the supplies of food and weapons, then walked into the door and disappeared into the darkness.
“It went inside.”
Lu Ban pointed at the door.
