Chapter 184: 183. Perform a magic trick_1 Chapter 184: 183. Perform a magic trick_1 “The Remains of the Sage can move?”
Upon hearing Lu Ban’s account, Giant Arm felt somewhat astonished.
Although everyone said that the Remains of the Sage still walked upon the earth, this was only a metaphorical expression. In most of the legends about the Remains of the Sage that Giant Arm had heard, these powerful corpses mostly lay in coffins, only becoming violent when someone approached and disturbed them, or they were contained by something and would wreak havoc if released.
The kind of Remains of the Sage that Lu Ban described, walking about and mimicking others like a naughty child, was truly beyond belief.
As for Lu Ban, he was also at a loss.
By Giant Arm’s side, the “Remains of the Sage” dressed in white, with dark eyes, stood listening to Lu Ban talk about it. It even nodded along with Giant Arm, pondering, evoking an inexplicable sense of humor.
Lu Ban had confirmed that no one else could see this guy; only he himself could notice it. If Lu Ban were a madman with a problematic mind, then he might think he was truly losing his sanity.
But Lu Ban considered himself quite normal, so the problem must be with this fellow.
Was it really like Shia said, that he was a Chosen by Gods, selected by some unknown god from somewhere?
Did this Remains of the Sage take a liking to him?
Lu Ban heard a roaring sound, the earth trembled, and from their vantage point atop a building, they could see a huge pit had appeared in the city square. Another group of Wasteland Hunters was moving supplies and equipment down into it, seeming to have found something underground.
“Doesn’t this feel a bit like Indiana Jones? If this were a movie plot, we should have been discovered by now and taken down there with them. But now, we can only watch others explore; we have no way to go in,” he murmured to himself, suddenly inspired.
“If that’s the case, why don’t we just show ourselves and follow them down?”
He thought he was incredibly smart.
Their mission was to find the treasure anyway, and it hadn’t specified they had to do it on their own. Isn’t clinging onto Giant Arm’s team much simpler?
Moreover, Lu Ban had encountered the Remains of the Sage, and perchance the treasure here was guarded by that silly fellow, giving him many chips to play with.
After a brief talk with Giant Arm and the others, he told the three locals to hide well, and if anything unexpected happened, to leave straight away. Then, he walked straight into the city square.
In an instant, several hand crossbows aimed at them, and Lu Ban saw a man whose arm was covered in crystals standing at the pit entrance, clearly the one in charge.
Lu Ban did not stop but continued forward, towards the crystal-armed man.
Iron Fist found this curious and waved his hand, signaling the crossbowmen to lower their weapons.
“Who are you?”
Iron Fist scrutinized the man before him. Aside from the crowbar on his back, there seemed to be nothing particularly remarkable about him.
“You can call me Clown,” Lu Ban said generously.
“I’ve come to discuss a deal with you.”
“A deal?” Iron Fist chuckled in amusement.
And the man with half a crystallized face beside him appeared somewhat irritated.
“You are certainly not alone. Where are your companions?”
“No need to rush, No-Face,” Iron Fist intervened, stopping his subordinate and turning back to Lu Ban.
“Do you think I need anything? I have far more information about this place than you, and you come to negotiate a deal empty-handed. Don’t you find that funny? Aren’t you afraid I’ll just kill you on the spot and throw your corpse into the desert for the bugs to strip clean?”
He was telling the truth; Iron Fist believed no one was more knowledgeable than him about these ruins, about this civilization. After all, the city-state he belonged to took pride in being descendants of that civilization, and the maps he owned were passed down through generations, supplemented with what he had gathered in the Wasteland.
But now this man talked about negotiating a deal.
Before seeing the chips, Iron Fist really thought the man before him was very much like a Clown, a court jester from olden times who amused others with comical actions and performances.
“How about this, I’ll do a magic trick for you first,” Lu Ban said, taking a small survival knife out of his backpack.
“I’m going to make this knife disappear before your eyes…”
“What are you doing?” The half-crystallized face of the man known as No-Face suddenly changed color, and Lu Ban could feel the air around him turning ice cold.
The next moment, he plunged the small knife into his own left hand, the blade sinking into flesh and bone, barely revealing the bone beneath.
Iron Fist was somewhat perplexed, wondering why this person started stabbing himself without a word?
But when Lu Ban withdrew the knife from his hand, Iron Fist saw that Lu Ban’s wound was healing at a rate visible to the naked eye, and at the same time, amidst the bloody mess where the bone was exposed, grass began to grow.
“Alright, can we start talking now?”
He smiled.
Iron Fist was silent for a moment, having seen similar healing abilities before, but never anything as outrageous as Lu Ban’s.
In the blink of an eye, the wound had completely disappeared.
He could, of course, kill Lu Ban right there as he had mentioned earlier, but he did not want to test the extent of power behind someone with such an abnormal healing ability.
“Speak your business.”
“It’s simple, we join forces, and when we find the treasure, we split it fifty-fifty,” Lu Ban said in a firm tone.
“But I think we can find the treasure without you, unless you have some new intelligence.”
Iron Fist spread his hands, showing off his own team.
“Do you know that the Remains of the Sage exist in these ruins?” Lu Ban asked.
Iron Fist was unimpressed, as that was also part of the intelligence he had.
“Continue, I’m listening.”
“Do you know that the Remains of the Sage are standing right beside you now?” Lu Ban asked again.
“!”
Iron Fist immediately tensed up, turning around to scan his surroundings, but besides his own people, there was nothing.
“Are you playing with me?”
“No, it really is standing beside you.”
Lu Ban pointed to the air beside Iron Fist.
There, the individual in white clothes was mimicking Iron Fist’s movements, looking around and appearing like a mischievous brat.
Iron Fist looked in the direction Lu Ban was pointing, but still didn’t notice anything.
He glanced at No-Face beside him, who also expressed confusion.
“You’d better prove what you’re saying.”
Iron Fist squeezed his crystalline fist.
“Pure white clothes, long black hair, barefoot, looks like a man yet also like a woman, eyes pitch black…”
Before Lu Ban could finish, Iron Fist took a step forward.
“It’s really here?”
Iron Fist asked in a hushed tone.
“It is.”
Lu Ban glanced at the figure beside Iron Fist, who also leaned in close, its head just inches away from Iron Fist.
“Boss?”
No-Face was somewhat puzzled.
After a short contemplation, Iron Fist quickly reached out his hand to Lu Ban.
“Pleasure doing business.”
“From today onwards, we are comrades!”
Lu Ban gripped Iron Fist’s flesh-and-blood hand firmly, and shook it vigorously.
