I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords -
Chapter 176 - 176 175.Proxy_1
Chapter 176: 175.Proxy_1 Chapter 176: 175.Proxy_1 “A companion, huh? I wonder if I’ll ever see Cui Siter again. If he were by my side, I wouldn’t have to worry about lacking firepower at all,”
Maybe he was already getting used to traversing such foreign domains, but even in a world spinning topsy-turvy, Lu Ban managed to think.
The next moment, a deep, beast-like howl filled Lu Ban’s ears, and amidst the deafening noise, he felt a chill.
He found himself lying on the silver sand, and when he looked up, Lu Ban saw a dazzling starry sky.
This foreign sky was far more brilliant than that of Earth.
That was Lu Ban’s first reaction.
The stars twisted, forming the System’s cold, indifferent text.
[The Wasteland]
[Three years of Berlicry, the stars are visible]
[A world baptized by disaster where even living is a luxury, the laws of the Wasteland are survival, the survival of the fittest, a mad land where humans and beasts dance together]
[Some found miracles in the Wasteland, others lost their lives, some encountered despair, and some got lost, never to leave]
[With all your might, survive.]
[Mission requirement: Enter the Nameless City]
[Mission requirement: Obtain the treasure of the Nameless City]
[Difficulty: Corrosion]
[Number of companions: 1]
He looked around.
To the left, someone was lying down, a woman; she was cloaked in a gray cape, and what was under it was unclear. She glanced forward, then at Lu Ban by her side.
“Desert? This foreign land seems desolate,”
The woman murmured to herself in a language Lu Ban did not understand, but the pronunciation and rhythm felt vaguely familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before.
“Are you a fellow traveler?”
Lu Ban then asked.
Being a fellow traveler essentially meant being teammates. Lu Ban wasn’t the type to play role-playing games by hiding his identity, so when he heard the term ‘foreign land’ from the other party, he immediately asked in a low voice.
“…You, are you also Chosen by Gods?”
The woman seemed a little surprised, her eyebrows raising, and only then did Lu Ban notice her light golden, slightly curly hair and her clear, green eyes, which gave her the appearance of a foreigner.
“Hmm… Wait, is this your first time meeting a fellow traveler?”
From the woman’s reaction, Lu Ban quickly deduced this was the case.
He didn’t expect that last time he was the newbie being led by Cui Siter, and now he had already started leading a newbie himself.
Well, according to the unwritten rules in novels, leading a newbie often meant quickly seeing them ‘lying down’ (i.e., failing).
Lu Ban decided he should take good care of this newbie to uphold his dignity as a senior.
“Fellow traveler… indeed, that magic had hinted at the term ‘companion’,”
The woman pondered, immediately becoming serious.
“Fellow traveler, hello, I am Shia Quelreis, from Gray Tower, a prospective Proxy.”
Her voice was forceful, and if it weren’t for her lowering her tone, Lu Ban would have certainly responded with, “Good, very energetic.”
“Gray Tower… Night Country?”
Lu Ban recalled information about the Foreign Domain.
Gray Tower was an entity like an official organization in Night Country, training Mages. So, this woman named Shia was a Mage?
Lu Ban’s interest was piqued.
“Yes, in the Silent Lands, the world where I come from, it is indeed called that,”
Shia nodded slightly, giving off a very positive impression; she spoke and expressed herself with precision, like a class discipline monitor.
“What is a prospective Proxy?”
Lu Ban decided to take the opportunity to learn more about Night Country.
“Uh, a Proxy is a Mage sent out by the Gray Tower to various parts of the world, with a lot of autonomy. I haven’t officially become a Proxy yet. I’m still traveling with my teacher,”
The blond woman explained generously.
“So, you can cast Spells?”
Lu Ban asked.
“Of course, I was among the top students at Gray Tower Academy, and apart from someone whose head seems to be glued to their books, I dare say no one is better than me!”
At this point, Shia became even more spirited.
“Then can you make bread?”
Lu Ban asked about something he had been quite curious about.
If Magic could create food, then whether people would still feel hungry after eating it and the Magic effect wore off was a question.
“?”
Shia was stunned for a moment, not knowing how to answer.
“Create Food Magic is a rather specialized Spell, and I haven’t mastered it yet.”
“I see.”
Lu Ban didn’t press further, although he also didn’t understand why making bread was considered high-level Magic. But since she said she couldn’t do it, he let it be.
While they were still whispering, a muffled sound suddenly came from ahead.
Lu Ban looked over.
In the desolate and silent desert, there had been an explosion.
Some kind of explosive sent clouds of sand high into the air, and on those dunes, three people surrounded a deep shadow, seemingly in combat.
With a bit more concentration, Lu Ban saw through the dust and under the starlight that it was a gigantic insect.
The insect resembled a giant praying mantis, but with more slender limbs and a shiny, black-chitinous shell. It had huge pincers, sharp forelimbs, and a body full of angles, exuding a dangerous aura.
Next to the insect was a blasted hole, apparently the recent explosion had lured the creature out of its lair.
As Lu Ban was pondering whether to help, he saw one of the people hunting the creature’s arm suddenly swell up.
The arm quickly grew thicker than the person’s own body, resembling a giant’s limb awkwardly attached to a human torso.
The next moment, that person’s arm gripped the giant pincer of the insect.
The display of strength was blood-tingling; then, the other hand swelled up as well, both hands firmly seizing the insect, preventing it from escaping.
Meanwhile, another person held a torch in the left hand and raised the right high into the air.
Lu Ban saw the flame from the torch flow like a long snake into the palm of the right hand.
With a throw of the right hand, a fierce blaze shot out, wrapping around the insect’s tail, scorching it and causing the beast to emit a low howl.
The last person simply stood there, but Lu Ban could sense that some kind of change was happening between him and the insect.
Shortly after, the insect’s wailing ceased, and as if hypnotized, it lost the power to resist; its body fell, and following a forceful twist from the person with massive hands, a snap was heard. The creature’s head was torn off, spilling viscous green fluid into the sand, quickly giving the silvery grains a dark hue.
“You two, what are you watching for? Come and help!”
The person holding the torch called out in Lu Ban’s direction; the flickering firelight cast a hazy glow on the gravel.
“Okay.”
Lu Ban quickly blended into his role, standing up and glancing at Shia, who was still hesitating.
“No problem, the tasks in the Silent Lands will give us an appropriate identity; no one will suspect a thing.”
He guessed the woman named Shia might have only experienced one or two missions and was not very familiar with the Rules here.
“I understand.”
Shia got up from the sand pit, her cloak fluttering with her movement, allowing Lu Ban to see the clothes beneath the dull cloak.
The black steel gauntlets, breastplate and skirt armor, and boots made Shia look like a medieval knight in full armor.
“… What kind of Mage did you say you were again?”
Lu Ban felt that there must be a misunderstanding between him and Shia regarding the definition of a Mage.
