I Forged the Myth of the Ancient Overlords
Chapter 155 - 155 154. Shy Person_1

Chapter 155: 154. Shy Person_1 Chapter 155: 154. Shy Person_1 To know, what they say about recent times, Lu Ban had actually just returned from the Nanhua Private Renji Hospital just a week ago.

How could there already be footage?

Wang Qing found it unbelievable.

However, to be able to see Lu Ban’s work in advance was an unexpected delight for him.

“Can I really watch it? Doesn’t this need to be kept confidential or something?”

Wang Qing asked.

“Yes, of course, the specifics should not be disclosed. You certainly can’t take photos or videos, after all, we want to keep the suspense for the audience,”

Lu Ban added.

This level of leak was harmless, and it could even help generate buzz.

Sometimes, production teams would let Journalists visit the set and then “accidentally” leak some juicy details to spark discussions among the audience and boost anticipation–a classic strategy.

So-called leaks were sometimes exactly what the officials wanted you to know.

He led Wang Qing to his bedroom, had him sit on a chair, and opened a video file.

Lu Ban played a video that was part of the archive record. He planned to use the footage from these files as a prelude for the early and middle parts of the film.

Wang Qing swallowed and looked at the screen.

On the screen, a nurse was busy at the nursing station. The night had fallen deep, and the hospital was particularly dim.

At that moment, a voiceover came through.

“The department head instructed that tonight’s shift must be vigilant as the patient in room 502 is in critical condition…”

The voice had been altered by Lu Ban, and it sounded different from the original. The filming angle was cleverly chosen so that only the side profile of the nurse was vaguely visible, making it impossible to see the entire person’s face clearly.

As Wang Qing listened to the nurse’s monologue, he suddenly felt a chill.

It was as if he were standing in the same hallway as the nurse, cold, dark, with the heavy scent of disinfectant lingering in the air.

He felt as though he could actually smell the disinfectant.

The plot was simple—the nurse was going to check on the patients and then took the elevator to the fifth floor.

However, when Wang Qing saw the large mirror in the elevator, he felt a sense of unease, reminding him of the one in Lu Ban’s living room.

Most shots from the nurse’s perspective did not show her face but provided views from outside the patient rooms, from the security camera angles, from behind the nurse, etc. It gave the impression that some unnamed entity was watching her, creating a sense of disquiet.

Right when the nurse left the elevator, the camera deliberately captured a corner of the mirror in the lift, where something seemed to dart by, making Wang Qing’s eyelids twitch involuntarily.

The nurse arrived at room 502 and saw an elderly man lying in the hospital bed.

This shot was taken from the inside of a darken room looking outward, and because the room was too dim, the flashlight the nurse held barely revealed anything. The person lying on the bed was indistinct, merely a shadowy figure.

As Wang Qing watched the nurse continue forward, he felt a bit uneasy because no one knew what was going to happen next. The patient in room 502 was mentioned earlier as being in a serious condition, yet he was just lying there. What would happen to the nurse?

The beam of the flashlight shone ahead, revealing a faint light from a room at the end of the hallway. The nurse’s voiceover continued as she walked toward it.

The camera presented a first-person perspective of the nurse, stepping into the darkness, moving closer to the lit room.

From the earlier voiceover, Wang Qing knew this was the intensive care ward, and the room at the end of the corridor was unoccupied.

He saw the nurse’s viewpoint shift, looking into the brightly lit room.

Standing in the room was an elderly man.

Wang Qing was suddenly startled.

Because the somber voiceover informed him that this was the critically ill elderly man from room 502.

The old man’s complexion was deathly pale as if he had been dead for some time. His movements were slow and stiff, like a marionette being puppeteered. For some reason, when Wang Qing saw this old man, a chill ran down his spine; his entire body erupted in goosebumps. He could even smell a distinct, odd odor that seemed characteristic of the elderly man.

The nurse also appeared to be frightened, hastily giving a quick explanation before turning to flee in panic. She passed through the corridors, and when she looked back, the old man was still at the doorway of the room, waving at her—utterly spine-chilling.

The scene abruptly ended amidst the voiceover’s questions.

Wang Qing was not a timid person. Common horror films would just startle him with a sudden ghostly face, but after watching this video, he felt as if he had become the nurse, shuddering in the aftermath of a narrow escape.

He had previously heard that Lu Ban’s movies had a way of immersing the audience, which he originally thought was an exaggeration. But just this brief clip genuinely made him feel the eerie atmosphere of the hospital; it was immensely powerful.

Even now, recalling those hallways and the setups in the hospital, Wang Qing was a bit too scared to go there.

“How’s it going?”

Suddenly, a voice came from behind, causing Wang Qing to finally release his fear. The tremors swept through his entire body like electricity, and he shook slightly, like a comatose person shocked by a defibrillator.

“Holy shit, that scared me to death…”

Unable to hold back the curse, Wang Qing touched his wildly beating heart and sighed.

“Director Lu, your new movie is definitely going to be a hit!”

“You flatter me,”

Lu Ban responded.

“I need to wash my face to calm down a bit, that one really got to me.”

Wang Qing stood up, rubbing his slightly weak knees.

“Oh, and remember not to look in the mirror too long.”

Lu Ban stepped aside to let him pass.

“Not to look in the mirror too long?”

Wang Qing, puzzled, went to the restroom. He turned on the faucet, scooped up some water, and poured it over his face to calm himself down a bit.

After wiping his face, he looked up to see his reflection in the mirror, looking somewhat haggard.

He couldn’t believe that just a few minutes of video had made him look like this, how embarrassing.

As he kept staring at the mirror, he suddenly felt something was off.

He raised his hand and touched his face.

Then, he saw that his reflection didn’t raise its hand; instead, it showed a miserable, eerie smile.

But Wang Qing himself wasn’t smiling.

“…Fuck?”

He rubbed his eyes hastily, thinking he had seen wrong.

But when he opened his eyes again, he saw that behind his reflection in the mirror, there seemed to be a figure standing there.

“!!!”

Feeling a chill on his scalp, Wang Qing immediately turned around, but there was nothing behind him.

Looking back at the mirror, he saw Director Lu staring intently at him.

“What the hell…”

Wang Qing was so scared he leaned back against the wall. But then, he felt something scratching at his ear, it was a bit itchy.

When he reached to scratch, he brought back a handful of hair, a woman’s long hair!

“Help, help me!”

Wang Qing immediately began banging on the restroom door, even forgetting he could turn the doorknob.

Soon, Director Lu’s voice came from outside.

“You need to let go of the handle first,”

He said calmly.

Wang Qing then realized that he was holding the doorknob so tightly that the door couldn’t be opened from the outside.

He quickly let go and saw Director Lu push the door open, standing in the doorway.

“I told you, didn’t I? Not to look in the mirror for too long.”

Director Lu glanced at the mirror, which had returned to normal.

“Because my friend in the mirror is a bit shy. If you stare at him for too long, he might feel embarrassed,”

He explained.

“?”

Covered in cold sweat, Wang Qing was full of question marks.
